I just fixed my 2003 yz250 power valve just minutes ago from using this instructional video. It all started when I removed the cover from the power valve assembly. From an old timer with engineering degrees and engine building/modifying experience, starting to ride again, you do a very good vid. I have a question you may know the answer to. With a stock motor now, I am planning on doing some easy mods to the engine for quite a bit more low end power for my trail riding. Among those mods I want to lower the cylinder .5mm, (no cylinder base gasket, used a good gasket sealer. I think the stock gasket is .5mm), so I am wondering if there is any linkage "actuating rod", (somewhere between the governor and the valve shaft), adjustment needed, or built in the linkage to do so. I think I would like the valves to open at the same rpm, and I can't remember if I even bothered with earlier bikes, (I have lowered the cylinder on earlier bikes that had power valves,---a long time ago.). Thank you. Doug in Michigan
Hey Doug that is a really good question .I don't see an option to adjust anywhere in the linkage .But this question must have come up with someone else doing a similar modification .I will be heading to a fantastic bike shop this week .I'm good friends with the mechanics on site and will pose that question to them .If anyone knows the right answer ,its these guys ,they have decades of old school experience .If they can give us any solid intel on this question I will certainly let you know what they say .Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to comment with intelligent interesting thoughts .Cheers to you good sir .

@@TRyanLearnBikes funny shit!...I'm balls deep in a 2005 yz 250 off road build, this yz is my second, the first was a track specific ride, this one has an Eric Gorr BB, smart carb, WR trans, HInson, 18" rear, SSS fork. I did a refresh some 15 hours ago but had a failure when the PV linkage spring broke and somehow the fragment made it's way into the cylinder. Have you ever heard of this ? Hey RodKris ,I genuinely appreciate your encouraging comments, my friend .It really means a lot to me and makes a huge impact on motivation to continue creating. Cheers to you good sir 🍻
Well it may be a good idea to confirm that your particular year of bike actually had that spacer .A quick look at a parts diagram would help you with that .Your local Yamaha dealer should be able to provide you with it ..As far as the actual dimensions I'm not sure as it's in my bike right now .Let me know if you have trouble finding out the info required and I'll check with my shop here in Ontario to see if we can get it sorted for you .
Min 1:04 I am surprised the inner coil spring coils wore into the shaft like that. How much time is on that bike? Also, what caused the wear on that same shaft, but to the left end, between the "pulley slot" and the retaining shoulder of the shaft? Was that wear done by the seal?
You have a great eye for detail .I wondered about those wear marks too.The bike was previously owned by an avid racer who I'm sure rode it hard for a few years .It had an overbore when I got it and Ive since replaced that with a new jug .The power valve components are likely all original parts .I really dont know why there was heavy wear near the pully slot as you mentioned . Thanks for watching and your great comment . Cheers to you good sir .

Well Benny ....that little easter egg is not a stock option .I'm impressed you actually spotted it .Not many have . It was a nod to two of my grandkids .The thought prossess was ,if by chance they ever were to watch any of grampas videos 30 years from now ,and they found their cameo ,they would know I was always thinking of them . Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment I truly appreciate it .Cheers
Hey Mathew, it's not uncommon to have a little bit of black oily goo drip out of the vent line .Depending on your fuel mixture and how well.your bike is running can be factors on the consistency and amount of oily discharge. Over time it gets pretty messy and sticky inside the power valve compartment and is well worth cleaning it up every once in a while to get maximum performance out of your engine.

Any way we are 8 hours away from fueling up and kicking!!! Overall I'm super happy with decision to focus on trail riding, for 50 yrs I've only really road tracks, this has been enlighting! Thanks again for the superb edit/instruction, well done brother! enjoy the CAKES!
@Robert White Hey Robert ,Holy moly man you are into some serious bike building. No I have never heard of the same issue you experienced with bits fragmenting into your engine ....thats sounds like some wild stuff going on there ,yikes.
You mention many years of track riding and now focusing more on trails ..You are obviously a well schooled rider with heaps of experience. You would have a massive audience interested in what you're riding and building if you ever decided to record it and put it on youtube. I would definitely follow your channel. I really appreciate you watching my video and commenting so positively. Cheers my friend and enjoy many more years of riding and maybe record some of your bike adventures if you get a chance.🍻
@@TRyanLearnBikes I appreciate that encouragement. I see the committment that guys like you have and for myself right now I'm lucky to have an afternoon to go ride the thing... I do have cameras and mounts... but sadly have never used them, for fear of the ensuing rabbit hole 😂Keep the edits coming, everyone has their niche but you've figured out some key componets to a successful/entertaining tutorial.
@Robert White I certainly understand Robert ,time is the elusive element and riding is way more fun than messing around filming and editing. The TH-cam game can definitely be a demanding rabbit hole to navigate. Thanks again for watching and commenting so kindly. Cheers 🍻
Woooooooowww superb and absolutely awesome assembling one by one parts of it bro. Great to learn something about on it. Keep it up and more vidz to come brother.
Hey RodKris ,I genuinely appreciate your encouraging comments, my friend .It really means a lot to me and makes a huge impact on motivation to continue creating. Cheers to you good sir 🍻
Excellent video! Keep up the great work!!!
Thanks very much Pete .I genuinely appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave such a great comment. Cheers 🍻
hello! in my cylinder there is no external linkage spacer, do you really need that spacer and what is the measure on that? good video!!
Such great detail, great how to video ............................................................JB..
Cheers J.B. 🍻
Awsome demo thanks
You are very welcome. Thanks for the great comment. Cheers 🍻
Cheers to you good sir .
super awesome editing and information. this channel deserves to have much more views and subscribers. I liked subed and going to watch all videos! thank you for making them! very quality stuff. very inspiring. too
Hey Damir I can't thank you enough for your kind remarks . You made my day . I truly appreciate the fact that you took the time to watch ,comment and subscribe .Cheers to you my friend !
What a damn great video! Thank you sir :)
My pleasure. Glad to have been able to help you out. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment so kindly. Cheers 🍻
i think something is wrong with my cylinder. I looked extra close but i'm definitely missing something. at 4:30 there are a couple young children inside your exhaust port and mine doesn't seem to have those. are those stock or where did you get them?
Well Benny ....that little easter egg is not a stock option .I'm impressed you actually spotted it .Not many have . It was a nod to two of my grandkids .The thought prossess was ,if by chance they ever were to watch any of grampas videos 30 years from now ,and they found their cameo ,they would know I was always thinking of them . Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment I truly appreciate it .Cheers
thank YOU for sharing all the knowledge@@TRyanLearnBikes
@@bennymac1731 Hey man its my pleasure we're all in this together ,just try'n to have fun on our motorcycles .Cheers .
I have a 2023 yz 250X and it drips oil out of the power valve vent line is that normal.?
Hey Mathew, it's not uncommon to have a little bit of black oily goo drip out of the vent line .Depending on your fuel mixture and how well.your bike is running can be factors on the consistency and amount of oily discharge. Over time it gets pretty messy and sticky inside the power valve compartment and is well worth cleaning it up every once in a while to get maximum performance out of your engine.
Subscribing to TRyan's Channel if you own a dirt bike is the equivalent of a thousand dollar discount coupon. After labor and parts and tools and time bringing it to a mechanic, there's no question he is saving us major dollars that we would have spent on a mechanic , or possibly making expensive mistakes doing it ourselves without a pro. I think he should actually charge a small amount for the info. He saved me thousands, so I'm sure there are appreciative people like myself that wouldn't mind tossing him a few dollars.
He is saving us hundreds, what's 5 bucks. 1.45k subscribers x 5 bucks could add up ya know! :)
Hey ascended Lion I truly appreciate you promoting my channel in such a kind way . It really feels fantastic to be recognized in such a positive light .The thought of receiving donations or any kind of compensation for helping out the motorcycle community is interesting, but not necessary at all its genuinely my pleasure just to help people out .Thank you so much for your support and making my day .Cheers good sir 🍺
Familiar as suzuki rm 250 06 one 😊
Ahh yes ...That is a beauty of a machine.
@@TRyanLearnBikes ive got as you see the picture, Kawasaki kx 250f 04(same as suzuki) flat track with rm 250 06 engine, 80% of swap has done (hardpart) chain line is perfect needs 2.8mm washer on left side and 5mm right. Fuel tank bottom needs to pushed in 2cm to get spark plug clearance, cyl head bracket on (frame) 90° turned back so you can remove engine without undo head. There is video about it if you want see😅 ive be the first one to do this
@KawasakiMotoX2T Wow ...now thats pretty cool .I will definitely check that out .No matter how you slice it that is a ton of work.
Excelent👍💪🤩
Thank you Jakub .Glad you liked the video. Cheers 🍻
Cual es la medida del reten del eje
I'm unsure of the actual dimensions. That would be best determined through a Yamaha parts dealer .
👍

@@TRyanLearnBikes I repair an old Yamaha DT200r and have big problem with YPVS servomotor and I was very curious how it works on the YZ's without all these extra parts.(battery,servomotor,cables).
The first video I saw was yours and it is AWESOME! I don't need anything more. Cheers to you too!
@MegaEnduras Good to hear , I'm glad you have it all sorted now .Enjoy and ride safely, my friend .
Is there only one oil seal on the side where you slid the shaft or is there one on either side?
Thanks
There is only one oil seal where that shaft slides in on this particular model .Hopefully, this helps.
@@TRyanLearnBikes
Yes this helps I appreciate it. My bike is a YZ250 01 model and I think the tusk gasket set comes with two of those seals, it's why I asked about that but thanks for the reply, feedback like this is always useful.
Thats great Mario I'm glad to help in any way I can .The 01 YZ250's are great bikes I know you will have a fantastic time riding that machine . Have fun and ride safe .Cheers @@marioguzman9290
