Cant wait for the new Flea minis. Wish for Flea and Locust multi packs. The old models look comedic, off-proportions and metal noodle limbs( Clans are guilty there)😂I like the teal/ yellow/ blue. And appreciate also the Dusk Haunters orange/ purple/ greeen which is the secondary colors mixed by using red yellow blue primary colors. I much prefer RYB/ pigment color teachings than light wavelenghts RGB
I never really considered that cicada starts with a soft c and then has a hard c following it. I guess it just looks classier than spelling is sikada. Catalysts new line of models have a very satisfying 'chonk' to them. Really the model designs are, I think, 90% of their success. They're very collectible miniatures, strong eye appeal.
We have Mechwarrior Online to thank for 3D chonky models that fans then started to extract and 3D print. Piranha games really spearheaded modern Battletech design.
Isn't there an english language rule that if you have a C followed by an E or an I it's a soft C (pronounced see), but if you have a C followed by an A or an O or a U it's a hard C (pronounced K)? I'm not a native english speaker, but that's what we were taught in english classes
The new sculpts got my attention, and the attention to scale made me a die hard fan. (Aside: had a good chuckle at you kind of saying - “I’m not talking about paint. I’m not going to paint shame people here.” 😂😂 Sigh … what a crazy world.) Thanks for the video and discussion as always Dom.
Scale also has to factor in painting the mini. For example, I was really into Flames of War 3rd edition. The miniatures for this game had oversized details (viewports, shovels, chains, etc) so that you could paint them and see them on the table. It also meant that you had infantry with oversized hands and guns, again to facilitate painting. Personally, I’m okay with there being 4-8 rough groups of scale based on the mech’s weight class.
Getting the mechs into scale is a nice touch , but if you're looking for true scale Battletech isnt your game ie. 90 metre range MGs , 270 metres for med lasers etc etc
I have another Variant of the Catapult, which is basically just Legs and a cool looking Stormcrow Mini. I still like both of 'em but they are way too small. I really like that today they try to match the scale but also that they are willing to sacrifice that if a Mech looks out of Scale, when the Scale actually would fit. I remember in one Ask me Anything they said the Black Knight would be downscaled already because in the true scale he would look too massive.
If youre careful and go for im going say post 2012 Iron Wind Sculpts are ok for scale , the real modern ones are spot on .......... Like i have a K and C3/5 Catapults and the only difference is material used
I’ve had some bad experiences with the metal models. I got a warhammer that I couldn’t assemble for the life of me. It had the narrowest of joints at the elbows which meant I couldn’t put the arms on. Furthermore, because it was so thin, it was impractical to pin.
I'll have to send you a photo on Twitter of the minis I've printed and painted. I tried to scale them as best I could, trying to not scale down too much that painting would be difficult.
Something is wrong with Twitter again. It won't let me see your page, even though it tells me that we follow each other on Twitter. More of Precentor Elon's fuckery is afoot, it seems. Is there an email I can send the mech pics?
I'm personally kinda anal about miniature scale, not just in Battletech, but in Warhammer too (which is why i hate Primaris marines that are completely out of scale with everything else in the entire range) When it comes to IWM, ever since the Kickstarters, pretty much all of their new stuff is nicely scaled with the plastics.
No, no we don't. suh-kay-duh, I'll also accept si-ka-duh for regional differences, but nobody puts the "d" in the second syllable. Not even Forrest Gump
Have you ever seen that Friends meme with Joey, when the blonde lady tells him how to pronounce something, and the last frame is him still saying it wrong? Well insert me in this with 'si-kade-uh' ;)
Scale is one of those things where you gotta suspend your disbelief due to practicality.
I can do that to an extent, but I get upset when assault 'Mechs are the same size as medium 'Mechs...takes me out of the game.
As an Australian where you get Cicadas its Sik-ada , all the Americans here are wrong about how to pronounce it

I really like the flea. It seems like the perfect complement to the urbanmech for a militia or “police” force.
Yes, I too love a Flea!
Thanks; I had a designer create the logo for me :)

Probably...though knowing English pronunciation rules, there will be 250 words which violate this rule ;)
Nice guy as well.
Yeah it's actually pronounced "kissada"

Very true. There has to be some suspending of disbelief.

Yes, defo something to be aware of before getting the metal minis. They can be a nightmare to construct.
Agreed, there are some great metal minis for both scale and design from the last decade.
After 3050 id say the Cyclops does know what it wants to do , you start to get better weapons , then some armour and then C3 masters

Same...I get upset when the scale is out.
The mechs aren't map scale and battletech isn't a true line-of-sight game, so I'm not really bothered by it.
No shade but Americans say "si-kade-uh"

US English is always wrong ..........

@@duskhaunters3025 I prefer the episode where Chandler can't pronounce the sound of a whip
