Also, the price I wrote has already been converted and rounded up to thousands based on the exchange rate from the price list published by Fiat for my market. It may surprise you, but even though countries use the Euro, the base price can vary in the case of the Fiat e-Ducato(4250kg equivalent of GVWR 9350lbs) it's €52,190 in Slovakia, which is converted and rounded to the $57k I mentioned, but a similar spec in Germany starts at €55,700, which is about $61k. You'd know all this if you did a basic search.
The $78k price he mentioned was for the van they were sitting in with the roll up door and the shelves and custom side door. They should have given the price for the basic van

Auto interior lighting for hands free operations. Also all those inverters for the electronic equipment associated with on board Ambulances. 😏
@@kevinbarry71 Promasters usually don’t last long on dealership lots. Most of them are already sold when they arrive at the dealership. Most of the sales are to commercial buyers. And unless they are totally trashed or way over priced, they turn over quite rapidly on the used market as well.
It would be too heavy, adding a battery, electric motor, on top of the ICE engine, drivetrain, and fuel tank would be insanely hard to cram all that in there. Also, hybrid is the worst of both worlds for maintenance and reparability. Too much stuff to break.
Promasters always have the worst electrical problems. Look around sometime at them on the road. More often than not they have one headlight out. Is a constant issue. It’s a terrible fleet vehicle. Transit or even Sprinter will cost FAR less in the long run.

Hopefully with the EV powertrain it reliable, my uncle works at the post office and they have promasters and he says they're not very reliable. On the other hand I have a friend that has one and so far so good.
I would build one out a bit high but if I could get one at a good price id trade my promaster for an electric one Definitely want 200 miles range plus or the option for a small diesel range extender. Could do an option for a bigger battery. For road trips you can charge at camp overnight but you need to make it where you can make good amount of miles per day. Sometimes on a road trip you are trying to get to an area then explore. I see potential. I'd love a package to just convert my promaster I already to ev. Even say you do 200 mile range the on a road trip you would only DC fast charge probably once unless you really wanna make some distance you wou fast charge once then you make it to camp recharge with the amenities onsite. I want to have a way to add solar you can get 4 to 6 400 watt panels in the roof if you do some stacking and a deployment system. 2.4 kw of charging isn't nothing slow but for camping doing van life totally doable.
I have noticed that the 2nd quarter and year to date sales of the Promaster vans has slowed significantly, like by a third to half. Is that due to some production constraint or are buyers saying not this year or are they being resistant to the closing or out the door price of today’s Promaster van?
Take the $32,000 van, put a new 10 year old front grill and bumper in it, add a few batteries and presto! You now have the $100,000 white empty box van. What’s not to like?
Trades people I am talking with who run these vans near gross weight are indicating that they don’t get the winter and icy road traction they get with the ford transit and sprinter vans due to the heavy payloads they are carrying are placing more weight on the rear wheels vs the front. And they are indicating the Pentastar v6 is a bit under powered for the van. They also express concerns or have had more engine, transmission and braking issues. The say the drive train is too light duty for the job.
Different strokes for different folks. If you are a local delivery guy, for sure you'd want the FWD Promaster with the weight of the drivetrain over the drive wheels.

(The capacity weight on the Promaster big van shows higher allowed rear axle capacity for rear axle than the front.) when van is empty or lightly loaded, front wheel drive is a benefit. As they can get traction, but when the van is loaded at high gross weight, they have too much weight on rear wheels to get enough traction at the front.
Hmm...a 2023 new E-Transit is selling for $36k 68kWh battery. Half this price. The 2024 is $58k with 89kWh battery. I like fwd but I don't like it for 50-100% more money.

Turns out no matter how big the parent company a prioritisation of profit over the prioritisation of cooperation and investment concludes as no wonder why Stellantis is struggling. I think part of the reason they don't do this is because of a law called "chicken tax" very stupid name but it puts a 25% tariff on all light trucks (and other items) imported from Europe. Ford tried to get around this with some early transit vans but it was decided they violated the law and were fined a lot. I honestly think that this law needs to go away.
Making it front wheel drive was probably just to cut cost. How is that van going to get around in the winter with front wheel and the back end loaded with weight? I had a ford flex that was front wheel drive and its basically a station wagon and it did terrible in the winter with all the weight being in the ass end lol!!!! But hey if the fleets are buying it then more power to them😊.
These e-vans are going to kill ICE vans for last mile delivery. Many warehouses are adding solar (some also batteries) so cost per mile is going to be half of ICE vans (for life of van), and overall life of the vans will be longer than ICE… once these replace ICE in 50 mile radius, a second gen with more range will be available and completely replace ICE vans. The day of gas delivery vans are numbered. In the next 5 years they’ll completely disappear.
Has anyone ever asked themselves why vans are so un reliable. I saw two guys in two different vans leave their vans running for 45 minutes while they ate lunch yesterday. An electric gets rid of all the reliability issues hopefully
Calling the change of brand stickers on car as engineering is a major major stretch. Stellantis will probably ask thousands of engineers and workers resign in a near future.
I see a place for these vans in the commercial market. It remains to be seen how well these will sell. The ice versions of these vans seem to have interest and some are selling.
If they fail the Chinese will take over. Why let all that branding and name recognition go to waste? Who in the US would buy a Yangwang over the same car but with a Chrysler badge?
There's nothing wrong with the vehicles. They dont have any more problems than any of the other big 3. No company is perfect. Toyota is pumping motors that go boom. The pricing is the real issue.
The cars are good Consumer reports even said a vehicle like the Dodge Charger has had all bugs worked out at this point and is super reliable And if they do go wrong the parts are cheap and available everywhere
NO THANKS for an $88,000 cargo van with a range of 150 miles depending on how you drive. Might get 110 to 120 miles on a full charge with the air conditioner on during the summer. What a frigging joke!!!!!!! All electric vehicles of any kind are an absolute JOKE. Electric vehicles are NOT going to be feasible for 20 to 30 more years. Stop this madness folks!!!
We are not there yet... Tesla's can add 200 miles in a 15 minute fast charge. This is a brand new van that needs an hour to charge 150 miles. :( .. I wont make the move until we see a 500 mile range that can do that , but also when charge infrastructure is much better in Florida. So far it looks like maybe 2026.
