The wonderland in this game is real though just watch the end of the game. Honestly I would kill him too. He did so much mental damage to poor Alice. It’s like no wonder she went crazy. I believe that Lizzie hated the doctor before any of it happened. I think she always has hated him.
I love this game. I REALLY hope McGee has plans for a third. So many ideas for a story line. Like, she has kids, during a war, they are at the park, one kid runs off while she tends to the other child, that child gets killed and is blamed for the accident. AND I hope McGee has plans for a movie

She was pretty much raped. Bumby was described to be a centaur. According to mythology, centaurs rape human women, which is why the Red Queen said that there are no "centaurs" in Oxford. Most centaurs are wild and savage, known for lustfulness and drunkenness. I may not be 100% right, but that's what I've read.
From what I've gathered: The doctor broke into the Liddell house and Alice witnessed the doctor go into Lizzie's room and rape her, the doctor then started the house fire (either intentionally or accidentally, I'm not sure which). Years later the doctor began doing his forget therapy to brainwash kids to sell them to other scum to use, and tried to do the same to Alice to erase any chance of him being caught for any of it; the only problem being Alice refused to forget and eventually made sense of what happened that she hadn't understood as a child like the doctor feared she would. Alice then kills him as she knows no one will believe her if she reports him due to her time in the asylum.
in the end, Alice turned back to her Wonderland outfit before pushing 'mean guy' onto the railroad tracks for the train to carry away. y? And if she was back in her wonderland, then how could 'mean guy' see her and recognize her?
Annette W Cause when Alice acts, she becomes her Wonderland self. Each time she ends up in wonderland and we play her she acts in the world and we play how it plays out in her mind. Atleast thats how I see it. If Alice is Bruce Wayne, then Wonderland Alice is Batman, or something like that.

We really should make more games that explores the darkest forms of life to make it more relatable. A little girls gets raped, then Bumby brainwashed orphans using them as profit to sell them off as prostitutes. Very graphic but very raw and real.
Alice is insane because she thinks that it is her fault that her family died in a fire cathasrophe. she lives in orphanage/asylum. cause she is insane because she sees hallucinations of wonderland. well thats the start or the basics you should know about the game and its story. ;)
It is a disappointment that there was only one boss for the entire 2nd game. However, they originally had plan to have a boss for each chapter. Time restraint forced them to scrap those bosses.

basically, madness return is the sequel to American McGee Alice which both games are have original novel Alice in wonderland and looking glass canon wonderland is not only a dream but a part of her psyche as the character symbolize parts of her and event of fire going out in her home that took away the lives of her family 1st game distraught with survivor guilt Alice goes mad and is taken to an asylum where for 10 yrs she weeps in guilt claiming she the cause of her family death, due to this self pitty wonderland has changed and become ruthless with the red queen (who Alice alter ego) grows tired of her self pity and tries to take matters in her own hand of taking over control of alice, these events allow Alice to travel back to wonderland in attempt to restore it and reclaim her sanity by confront her guilt and madness by killing the red queen and jabberwocky. with the queen's death, wonderland is resetted back to somewhat former glory and alice is allowed to leave asylum having been cured. 2nd game expands more about the event of fire where we find the Doctor, was the cause of it and he also raped and killed Alice's older sister. this part of detail was so traumatic that Alice literally repressed it deep in mind forgetting it. she unknowing works for the same doctor in the orphanage where she oblivious to the child sex trade he runs. Dr Angus has plan for Alice for to make her mindless prostitute as not only is making bank but also get rid of the only witness who saw him commit the crimes. he attempts to break down her mind which is reason for the doll maker and the ruins, in doing so alice madness is returning (along with reviving the red queen) and now the goal is to reclaim her forgotten memories and put the pieces together which alice has hard time and part of her wishes to forget the past while the other part (queen, chesare cat and caterpillar) are fully aware that a bad idea and guide her to back to sanity and save wonderland and herself

But there's more nostalgic yet dark worlds to explore in it. Give it a try. I was particularly proud of the Queen and the Cat in the fanfic. Oh ! And Alice doesn't shy away from the suffering Bumpy inflicts, putting up more of a fight, not to mention London discovers what Bumpy and co. did.
You should easily understand the game if you've read the books. I much prefer the Madness returns over American McGee's. I also prefer the older Alice in Wonderland movies over the new Tim Burton one. Alice was never supposed to slay the Jabberwocky. In fact the Jabberwocky was never supposed to be part of the original books. It is simply a poem created on the side which says that someone already slain the Jabberwocky. However, everyone has an opinion and a right to think by it so I won't argue.

Alice enjoyed the story so much she asked him to write the story down which he eventually turned into a full blown novel though Alice Liddell didnt get a copy till after it was published, Alice herself revealed part of this

not many boss fights(lots of normal fights), only really one at the end. the main bosses are usually the colossus ruins, first game has quite a few though.
American is hoping to release an animation (or a feature length film, depening on how much money he fundraises) called Alice:Otherlands - in which Alice explores the mental landscape of the prominent minds of that time, like Thomas Edison etc
i think this game would have been better if the pacing in levels was shortened and more then one boss battle was in the game. i felt so exhausted when i completed a level in the game.
I’ve found that upon replaying it, it feels much quicker, especially if you have all the weapon upgrades. It’s fun to explore and mess around when you know what’s coming. I’ve gotten all the collectibles on my 3rd play through.
Haha well, it's a helluva lot easier if the source material is a bit fucked up =P But I gotta say, they both have pretty damn unique minds, but American speaks to me much more than Tim Burton's version did - far darker, far more entertaining too. But then again, T.B WAS attached with Disney, so that probably hampered his creative freedom some
