Creating Pattern Using Stencils and Colored Slips

  • In this video, I demonstrate how to transfer slip onto newspaper using stencils and colored slips. This technique allows you to create colorful patterns that you can cut into different shapes and transfer onto your clay forms, much like applying a temporary tattoo. This technique is a great way to add pattern and color to your clay forms before the bisque firing.

      I’ve done that with same coloured slip (porcelain) as the bowl, then glazed with celadon. Works a treat! I use my own stencils cut on a silhouette cutter in thin plastic that moulds to the bowl shape. Am going to try this too!

    • @tiffanybailey5892
      @tiffanybailey5892  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello T&K Smith,
      You're very welcome. Yes, you could do that, but I have found that the slip doesn't transfer as evenly and neatly if you try to apply the slip through the stencil directly onto the clay. Also, it is harder to build the slip up thickly when you transfer directly through the stencil onto the clay form.
