- We test drive a modified Fiat 126. It might look small but it's certainly mighty since Mike Jordan recreated it in its current Abarth form.

My mom told me how she with 6 people in total made like 7h journey to Berlin from Posnan. A wild thing.
My father used to own a yellow one and we managed to squeeze 8people in there (3 of us were children). Amazing little machine :)
I can vouch for that statement. 8 of us, granted very cramped and without front passenger seat but going on for 20 km with no complaints or injuries. Ahh the good old days.
I had a Blue one of these back in 1995 (not Abarth) and absolutely LOVED it!

My dad owned 126PGL '95. I managed to replace complete clutch all on my own while I was only 14yo. It was very easy to extract whole engine and do all maintenance. They call this car Peglica in Serbia, which mean tiny laundry iron 🤣
2 years but fuck it, in Poland is call "Maluch" which mean a tiny one

hearing Top Gears Chris Evans just hurts my ears, im so glad the he already left and GT is coming so soon :) we used to have a Fiat 126 its a fun little car, it is one of my dreams that i custom build one

Sorry for the lady, this is not an 126 Abarth. With 600 cc it has not even an 126 Abarth engine. It has not even Abarth paint which is actually FIAT 124 red orange. No. Only two prototipo's were made. One for Italy, one for Poland. Engine size ran up to at least 770 cc and/higher.
you can take it to 700 cc or 740 and 800 with stock crank ..and up to 930 with longer stroke
I learnt how to drive in one at about age 12. The previous owner had driven it for the uk (north) to Berlin and back to witness the wall coming down, he had taken out the passenger seat so he could (sort of) sleep in it on his journey. It was almost dead, so it ended up as my toy with my bikes. My dad was into motorbikes, mum cars. She had an xr3i at the time, and can't recall what bike dad had then, he had many. I think my bike at the time was an italjet. Maybe?
Cool car. It wasn't then but is now.
If Mercedes can make a tiny little pocket with 21st Century safety features (Smart car ) why couldn't Fiat reinvent the 126 and the 500 using the original shell ?
The Abarth had up to 50 bhp.

abarth never built fiat 126 only giannni was selling 3 version of modified 126 650 30 hp 700 cc 34 hp and 800 cc 36 hp

@@AB-ng7zc I've heard a Fiat Fire engine could be transplanted in the 126 engine bay, it's 1100cc.
I'm thinking about buying one with similar power goals in mind, so I'd love to hear more of your process.
@@hagglundguy yes they are a lot of them about with fiat fire engines but i do like the` original twin 650

It just annoys me when people advertise modified 126s as 'abarth' or even 'abarth replicas' because they are talking shit lol.

Reportedly, this car has high exhaust emission. There's a guy from London who owns one of these beauties and says that it costs him about £20 pounds a day for the congestion charge.
my parents had them.... yes them .. because they kept overheating after being driven about 6 months and most of the time my parents had them my dad was trying to just fix them.

Excellent video, but the background music was a bit too loud for us to appreciate the row the engine makes - even when it isn't the Abarth engine! LOVED the colour, so perhaps that's just a man thing?

KAM: Easy: remove the front seats and sit on the rear seat. One of my friend had it, and he was slightly over 200 cm tall. Fun fact, the 126 had the soft top and when open, my friend drove it with his head stuck out of the open roof, with von Richtofen googles, causing almost a riot in the school, for histerical hilarity

In my years of owning a car I owned a Suzuki Swift, the older 2004 model, and trust me, that had less space in it than that thing, for refrence, with the seat all the way back your knees still sat highee that the seat, but I didn’t whine and complain did I? Afterall, the A/C was like a freezer and you’d probably freeze if you had it on for too long.
