Ebay is free from fees in the UK for private sellers but BEWARE. Listed a Rolex on ebay in 2024. Full price paid from one member. I thought it was odd without any questions first and in my listing I pointed out no buyers with less than 25 feedbacks. When I checked the buyers feedback, there was only 1 from 2019. Ebay via their overseas help desk assured me it was safe. I wasnt convinced. I asked buyer to set up a call. He offered ID, but I can tell you now the ID and the caller didnt match so I immediately cancelled the sale. NO way, Im posting my watch off out of my sight. It could be a scam or money laundering. Regardless, Ebay is not a safe place to sell watches until they take this serious
I just listed one this weekend it's 15% on total amount of the sale up to $1,000 calculated per item 6.5% on the portion of the sale over $1,000 up to $7,500 calculated per item
In the UK the feeused to be 12.5% of the sale price with 80% off (so ~3%) once a month or so. Then people started using apps like Vinted etc for clothing, eBay realised this and have now made the bold decision to remove fees entirely for UK sellers (excl cars)
In my experience no, you have to choose a courier that will cover the full amount. Royal Mail cover up to £2500, anything above you pay extra for ‘consequential loss’ which means nothing really. So I’ve sold a few of my cheaper watches on eBay and agree no fees now is great and my experience of selling and buying on eBay has been good. One thing I’m never sure of is the courier to use for posting to eBay authenticators that covers insurance of more valuable watches. Ones that are a higher value than RMSD will insure. Any ideas?

In his defence, Adrian pointed out it was free to sell on eBay for private sellers in the U.K. about 2m ago. I had no idea until he mentioned it and promptly sold a Rolex using the free authentication and saved paying some pointless grey dealer 20% margin. So you can slate him as much as you want for advertising but it saved me about £2k. Only thing I’d disagree with is saying you can’t expect to charge as much if you’re not a professional dealer. If it’s a modern watch, it’s authenticated, then you definitely can.
Got my Tudor black bay chrono through the eBay authentication programme. Very happy with it as a service. Only added an extra day onto delivery and gave me the peace of mind when buying a second hand luxury watch. Ended up with a bargain.
My recommendation - don’t buy watches when they immediately release. Wait 6 months, and by then you’ll know if you only wanted the watch due to hype, FOMO and Instagram, or whether you really like it for what it is.
When going vintage vintage, I think a dress watch is a safe option since one doesn't ask much from a watch worn in formal settings. In comparison to Patek, and other very expensive brands, I think that a good IWC with the superb 89 movement can offer a lot for the money. A Zenith with the 135 movement could also be very special. I you prefer a more recent watch, the manual wound 36mm A. Lange & Söhne 1815 is certainly very tempting, but you can find a good Chopard LUC first generation (also 36mm) for less money, and with an interesting micro-rotor movement with smaller bridges that open the view.
I have been selling on ebay for years now.. Well, let me say, they will rip you with their fees. We are talking about at least 16% excluding shipping, exchange rate and ad fees. That's a big chunk of money.. I only sell there when I have too though.
CAUTIONARY TALE: I sold a watch on eBay a few years back. Buyer opened the package, took the watch out and said the package was empty. eBay refunded the buyer before the post office could do an investigation and I was out a watch plus the cost of shipping. Because they refunded the buyer he did not help with the investigation and my shipping insurance could not cover anything. Don’t sell on eBay. Also this video is false, you still pay between 9 and 15% on watch sales.
Man that’s a horrible experience! That wouldn’t happen now though with the Authenticity Guarantee. They would verify the watch is in the box and send it on to the customer. This video isn’t false and to claim that is just silly. This is sponsored by eBay! I’m in the UK, eBay is free to sell in the UK.
This is no longer an issue with eBay authentication and I have sold at least 10 watches this year 2024 with no issue. Just waiting for watches to be sold for free in the U.S. though for personal sellers. Sort of disappointed that I’m constantly bombarded with how free it is in the UK 😒
This is the curse of a watch collector/enthusiast, it’s up, it’s down, it’s left, it’s right, it’s yes, it’s no, it’s modern, it’s vintage… you can’t commit, you can’t settle, and you can’t have it all.
Have you concluded buying in the USA? Cheap flight to NYC no more than £500 return and they are bundles cheaper. You could use it an obviously trip to the dealers.
Clearly a useful video for people who evidently hadn’t realise it’s now free to sell on eBay in the UK…the comments would show there are plenty in that camp.
@@caspianpaget i think it's important to say there is still a fee (3% i think) if your watch sells to someone outside the UK. Know a few people that have been caught out by this.
I used to do exactly this, but now if you sell a few expensive watches EBay will report you to the tax man and tell them that you’re a business seller. I decided to sell a couple of my Rolexes this year because I live in London and just don’t feel safe wearing them, now I have exceeded the private seller monetary threshold and eBay has closed my account (after 20+ years) unless I register as a business. It’s fine to buy watches on eBay but selling is now painful. I used to rotate my watch collection in exactly this way but eBay has now made this impossible. I guess we can thank the government for squeezing every penny they can out of us so they can waste it on global virtue signalling.
My grail watch is a true vintage Tudor Submariner 7928 Mk1, Mk2 or Mk3, when they had guilt printed dials before the transition to silver printed dials. If i could find one with the original Rose dial that would be a dream. Tudor often replaced dials with the Shield when serviced.
I'm not a fan of the root beer but I'd be looking to keep the Seamaster. Maybe as it is white dial, there's not enough difference to your other white dial watches? I'd be looking to add the Lange if you can manage it. It's dressier so maybe will get less wrist time but it's a statement piece and a lovely thing to look at. Good luck whatever you decide. One thing's for certain, watch collecting is a very personal thing and nobody's opinions matter more than your own.
Ooo great choices. Vintage Heuer and a Tudor Sub on my list too. But, my goodness, that Lange is out of this world. 👏👏 enjoyed the e-bay advice too. Thanks. Have fun 🎉
Good vid. I sold on eBay years ago, but never watches. I want to get back into being an eBay seller, not just a buyer. Thanks for the encouragement! Keep at it. My vote: the Tudor and the Chronometer.
Ad Shmad. A man's gotta eat, good on him. As to the choices of replacement. Why is it most watch guys seem to forget that dressing is a package. Pick something that accents your style, Adrian's picks all have merit, but ad dress watch if you're never in a Tux' is just plain odd. Like a fedora with flip flops. Sports casual, sweaters and t shirts the vintage Heuer has it in spades. to be honest I had the vintage Tudor but my 1982/ 5513 is another level wear and vintage prices are very reasonable ( so if it's a vintage sub stick to the 5513 in my opinion ) The Bundeswehr Heuer is a different look but these watches where also refitted by Sinn so either would work depending on price. The ghost trashed look is for those older experienced guys to wear, other wise to me it's like faux patina on a watch (if your in you're under 50 years old) the trashed watch is your faux patina. Get a good condition vintage piece and wear it for 20 years and it'll grow to be an honest part of you. Like the explorer 2 you broke and love for all the right reasons. Look forward to seeing which way you eventually go.
Agree, don’t drop 5 figures on a watch you’re gonna wear once a year… if you still have that turn o graph, IMO that doubles up as a dressier watch, especially on a vintage strap, for when you need it. I think you want the Tudor… My first step into watches was the BB58 but I moved it on for a Neo vintage ‘endgame’ 79190 - a 25 year old watch that is still massively wearable but has 5 digit Rolex vibes. You have the Kermit, so I imagine you’d want older (snowflake)…
Well this was timely. I was just thinking about listing my BBPro and didn’t want to pay fees on eBay even though my reach would most likely be better than Facebook marketplace lol I’ll have to check this out
Nice choices. I personally like those vintage Heuer Bundeswehr chronographs. I went with a modern version and with a Sinn 155 S. All blacked out and monochrome, it looks sleek and modern and still very military. Since Sinn did service the vintage Heuer chronos and eventually started making their own, I'd say the design lineage is legit and solid across.
EBay is still very much NOT free in the US. I had to post this comment to try and help out all of the other people who were fooled by this video. I love the channel, but in my opinion this is a very clickbait title since probably most people who see it are in the US. I wasted 6 minutes of my time, and liked and subscribed, because I was so excited to find out that eBay no longer charges the seller the ridiculous 15%, only to find out that no such change has occurred. And before anyone replies about personal vs business sellers, the fee is for everyone in the US.

Surely you weren't the intended audience for my comment then! Did you even read it? Things happen outside the UK, that's why he should have specified that it was UK only, which is a very small part of the world. The Internet is available in every country.
I have stayed modern not vintage. Stayed away from Rolex due to the attitude of the sales people in the past. I buy from independent watch dealers who offer decent service experience only.

I’ve had and worn this watch for 3 years!
What is your ebay name?
Enjoyable video! Interesting how you have decided to go more
vintage. I cnat wait to see what you end up getting.
You didn’t watch the video. EBay is now FREE to sell on.
@MJ-ce6tv My friend, it is free to "List" on.. I've just sold a watch earlier today and they took 18% of the total sales..
@MJ-ce6tv No it is free to "list" not free to sell.. I've just sold a watch earlier today and they took 18% out of the total sale..
@@Ghuraifyfree to sell in the UK for private sellers. I’ve sold 3 watches in the last month and had 0% fees
@@Ghuraifyit’s free to sell in the UK.
CAUTIONARY TALE:
I sold a watch on eBay a few years back.
That must have been before the authentication centre was introduced. - You only pay fees if you are a business seller.
Sort of disappointed that I’m constantly bombarded with how free it is in the UK 😒
eBay charges seller fees for people outside the UK. Adrian is in the UK, so he doesn't have to pay the fees.
This is irrelevant now, and could happen with most things sold online... except, ironically, eBay since they introduced the authenticity guarantee!
But then you’re breaking the law if you don’t pay customs duty on it when you return. Each to their own.
@ who actually pay the correct tax. I mean our government doesn’t
@@richardknight4617our government doesn’t pay the correct tax? Not sure what you mean.
@@richardknight4617my point is that you should be aware of the consequences
I love your stuff and I know you need to get paid but this feels like nothing but an ad, not the usual charm or interest we see in your videos.
Well it is an advert isn’t it ……I’m sure he got a nice wad of cash for it as well 🥳🍻
Clearly a useful video for people who evidently hadn’t realise it’s now free to sell on eBay in the UK…the comments would show there are plenty in that camp.
What is the price for your root beer?
My grail watch is a true vintage Tudor Submariner 7928 Mk1, Mk2 or Mk3, when they had guilt printed dials before the transition to silver printed dials.
If i could find one with the original Rose dial that would be a dream. Tudor often replaced dials with the Shield when serviced.
Get the A. Lange & Söhne mate. If that’s the one you want the most, I would sell another watch out of the collection to get the one you REALLY want.
HMRC now have access to eBay and anything over £1000 has to be declared just a word of warning
I have never been disappointed since I became a customer of MAMACOO. Their watches are of exceptional quality.
Go vintage while you can before prices go crazy 👌🏼
Sold my dream watch, thing of beauty
Thank you for that tip for taking photos by the window 🙌
Maybe highlight sponsorships IN the title, just for complete transparency and saving some of us the clicks.
Thanks mate 🙌🏻
Agree, don’t drop 5 figures on a watch you’re gonna wear once a year… if you still have that turn o graph, IMO that doubles up as a dressier watch, especially on a vintage strap, for when you need it. I think you want the Tudor…
My first step into watches was the BB58 but I moved it on for a Neo vintage ‘endgame’ 79190 - a 25 year old watch that is still massively wearable but has 5 digit Rolex vibes. You have the Kermit, so I imagine you’d want older (snowflake)…
Looking at the fees they say 11.5% for less than 2k selling and 2% for more than 2k, where is the free fee?
That Heuer Chronograph and Snowflake Sub are really cool.
This was a really long e-Bay commercial.
I mean he makes it quite clear it's a sponsored video. Would you prefer that he works for free?
Great vid! I really need to thin out my collection.
Get a Hublot, Captain Boring. 😂
Adrian is uk based surely you have picked that up from his accent . Things happen outside the USA . But he should have clarified it’s a UK eBay Free fee offer for private sellers.
Surely you weren't the intended audience for my comment then! Did you even read it? Things happen outside the UK, that's why he should have specified that it was UK only, which is a very small part of the world. The Internet is available in every country.
Wait a sec! I don’t see ur icomic exp 2 in ur collection! What happened??
Confused Adrian. eBay isn’t free to sell watches. What am I missing!?
Disregard. Caught up on commentary. I’m now searching real estate listings in UK….
I got the new fifty fathoms. New watch with all the history of the best vintage dive watches plus it actually fits now
I have stayed modern not vintage. Stayed away from Rolex due to the attitude of the sales people in the past. I buy from independent watch dealers who offer decent service experience only.
Informative as always Adrian.
Holy **** i just sold my omega seamester 300m on Ebay last month and ebay took a whopping 800 usd out of a 3.800 usd sales price.
Talk about bad timing on my part.
I sold 3 watches recently and purchased a new one & got my eye on a pre order. I think it's a nice way of keeping things interesting.
That vintage heuer with the white dial is soooooo nice!
Imagine seeing those photos on eBay! I’d question the authenticity of that sale!!! Hahahaha
