Saw Sparks with girls from High School twice in 1982 at The Whiskey and Magic Mountain theme park. They played a lot around Los Angeles in 1982. Interesting from the opinion of a general music fan. Watching Ron Mael was hilarious. I recommend their Documentary to the general public. Great Music documentary.
The version of barbecutie that Paul was talking about is on the 40th anniversary edition of kimono my house. There are 7 songs including demo versions of marry me and Albamy right. Theyre all on acoustic guitar with keyboards in some of them. Ron and Russell are credited for the guitars on them.

In the early 80’s I joined the Sparks fan club. I was thrilled to receive four newsletters from Los Angeles every year bearing US stamps. As a lovestruck teenager in the North East of England, it was like voices from another planet. I remember writing to the club secretary Mary Martin a list of questions about the brothers, I think it was mainly questions about the huge impact they had in the UK.
Two weeks later I received a lovely handwritten letter from Mary answering all the questions and two black and white signed photos of Ron and Russell.
I put the letter and photos in one of my books for safekeeping.
Decades later I’ve searched through all my books ( nearly a thousand) and couldn’t find the letter.
What was heartbreaking was discovering a few years ago Mary Martin was there mother.
My own mother who I lived with all my life Im until her death in 2017 was a Sparks fan by attrition, she had to listen to all the albums thousands of times.
My late wife Dawn had never heard of the Sparks and enjoyed there songs, becoming a fan. If she hadn’t become so unwell we would have saw them in concert this year.
I’m devastated by her death and only wished I had met her decades ago.
Treasure every single second you get to spend with Mollie and thank you for allowing me to discover some great albums and bands through your channel.
