Really appreciate this video. Nobody ever seems to discuss in detail the process of how to drop back in from the stall position. This was really informative. Thank you
Jon the wealth of information you’ve posted for new learners is an invaluable resource. Thanks again my man. You should be given a knighthood for contributions to skateboarding ha! 🙌🏼
45 and back on the deck. You are inspiring me to stick at it. Getting the stalls on small quarters and trying to get them mini ramp going. The dream is the bowl !! Thanks man !
Wow thank for this! I've been struggling with these for 2 months. Feels like it's never gonna work, so seeing all these phases and how you eventually made it! Super encouraging and helpful!
Like everyone else this is great timing for me! I’ve kind of just learnt this but I’m struggling to get consistency with it. Sometimes I lock in nice and get a long 50-50, other times I don’t bring the front wheel round enough and end up doing a feeble and bailing. I also tend to stop grinding and then drop back in afterwards instead of grinding and dropping back in in one fluid motion. More practice needed I guess. And these videos help!
Hi Jon. I heard Ben Degros say that a 50/50 is named so because you're neither in the ramp or on top. I'd never heard this before, but as you've pointed out it all works better when that's the case. Knowing this has certainly helped me, as have you're in depth descriptions. I think sometimes experienced skaters forget the little details that make the difference between a make and a bail/slam. Keep up the good work, and thank you. You're pain is our gain.
Amazing video man! Sure helped me a lot! You did a fantastic work of saving and joining old footage, along with your many observations since you were starting to learn. That is so valuable! Because when we ask most people who already have the tricks on lock, they don't remember most of the small adjustments they made to improve the trick. You still have these fresh on your mind, that's great for others trying to learn. Thank you! (I just found your videos and subscribed)
It great to see how far you’ve come from those old videos. It makes me realise that the one thing I’ve not been doing is skating enough… stop moping about getting things wrong and just doing it! Thanks for the inspiration fella 🤙😎
Great breakdown with good visuals. I'm currently getting inconsistent axle stalls on a 4 ft at my local, but keep popping out onto the deck. When I go to the steeper 4 ft section, I'm scared to commit to the turn. I've got some good things to work on from this, thank you!
Jon, such great instruction! I really appreciate your analysis on how to learn different tricks. I also appreciate you showing those emotional moments. Keep at it!
Nice job. Love the channel and love that rail stand you did. I'm also learning. I'm kind of a false beginner (skated as a child, but more for transportation than tricks). Transition is totally new for me in skateboarding (was decent at inline back in the day). I just dropped in the other day on my first attempt. Now just trying to work my way up to higher quarter pipes. I guess rock to fakie is the next to learn, followed by tail stalls, and then axel stalls. Anyway, the channel is motivating. Keep up the good work.
Great video! It took me months to learn this one. I think the biggest hurdle that I've seen people overcome to get these smooth and consistent is getting past the "back foot fudge" stage. I used to spend half a lifetime stood up on the coping whenever I would try these and I was in awe whenever I would see someone do a smooth, cross-locked axle stall/5050. But as soon as I figured out how to pinch the heelside wheel it was as though something clicked and I managed to learn (fairly) clean axle stalls, 5050s and feeble stalls. The "back foot fudge®" is the most important stage in my opinion (and one of the most common among beginners). Thanks for reading my silly comment. Keep safe. :)
Would be great to find a skating buddy like you. Hope I’m not judging but you seem so enthusiastic but not at all annoying. If you come to Australia would love a skate 👍
great break down.... i been skating for 2 years now and been following your tips throughout.... i got stuck on this trick for about a year... i could drop in on a 5 or 6 foot from a 50-50 but i just could not get back into it, even on a 2 foot ramp... drove me crazy... eventually what got it for me it to come out the ramp then ride back onto the coping and drop in 50-50... then i slowly got rid of that little ride off / on and managed to get it... but staying inside the ramp was a nightmare for me... spent 6 months at least just taping on and off... oh and i got the feeble first.
I currently feel more comfortable with both toe-side wheels locked in. I think it's because I know that I have stability and time to think if I need it, whereas if I have the heel-side wheels locked in, I'm balancing on the edge and need to commit to a quick re-entry since gravity is doing it's thing.
Yeah dude, I’ve observed good skaters using any of the four permutations of lock in to great effect. They all seem to work and it’s down to the individual I recon. My mate Pye locks both toe side wheels to the coping and it works a treat for him !!
As always a great video mate, I’m definitely a bit of a weirdo as you know. I don’t actually remember learning to axle stall as I was about 10 years old I think 🤔 (so 33 years ago 😬) but I most often do them how you explained about the pivot . Strangely it never really occurred to me to do pivots when I started skating again (i used to Ollie into them on curbs when I was younger but never did them on coping) and then a while back I decided to try the pivots. So my stalls are mostly in the middle of the truck with neither wheels in contact with a surface unless I’m being lazy and just standing up on top by My 5050’s are mostly the lock you showed unless I screw it up and do either both toe wheels up or both heel wheels. Again strangely my 5050’s on vert are a carve in and a very quick dab on and then off again with lots of speed and I’ve not mustered the courage to stall yet , there’s something about keeping moving that feels more comfortable to me. Also getting into stalls on steeper stuff I found it helped me to bend my back leg more and kinda squat into them until I got more comfortable. Anyway I’ll stop rambling, take it easy and keep up the good work 👊🏼
Great help Jon, continuing my pursuit today good timing ! Last time the knees, shoulders in line with coping and pressure on the back foot for the pivot was a turning point for me!
That was great Jon thanks heaps for the tips! I am learning 50/50 at the moment trying to get it to be consistent. I keep going to feeble. The smith stall looks great! have to give that a go. Hope your having a great summer! Cheers from NZ🙂
Thanks for the great tips! Some of those slams look rough. I'll have to look further in your video section to see if you have a video about healing from an injury, stretching, etc for us older guys. Be safe and rip it up out there!
in this clip at 5:00 it doesnt look like you hung up, but instead you had too much weight on the nose and got pitched, but the back wheels were comfortably in the ramp already.
Hey Jon, helpfull video as im working on 50's and feables too. Where is that skate park with the wooden mine? is that near winchester? Seems perfect to practice on :D
i was looking at your smith shorts , and a thought occured to me . let say you were doing it in a bowl like at least 8 feet tall , if you hang up , how do you fall safely ?
Really appreciate this video. Nobody ever seems to discuss in detail the process of how to drop back in from the stall position. This was really informative. Thank you
Oh man just as I'm trying to learn those. Great timing and great video as always!

Many thanks for the feedback man
Great vid dude just unlocked these this week after 20 years away from skating, been back a year and all your content has helped so much 😀 cheers man
Many thanks for checking in dude!! Great to hear!
Respect for all those slams

Nice one !!
03:56 -> Hi Adventure, Florianópolis, SC, Brazil!!! ;-) That´s where I go once a week, awesome place and people!
Looks like a great spot !!
thanks for the in depth details and tips
Wow thank for this! I've been struggling with these for 2 months. Feels like it's never gonna work, so seeing all these phases and how you eventually made it! Super encouraging and helpful!
It’s a tricky one for sure!
A masterclass!

My absolute nemesis. I have a very disobedient lead shoulder... good work bud
