    Your clock face is displaying the time, temperature, month and day of the week. I do not see that as an option under Clock face. How did you get this display?

    Nice review! I have mind in the bathroom and I really like it. And no intrusive ads like on the Echo Show.

    Is the square screen obvious at all or stand out? In other words, does it blend with the glass black surround, or are there times where you can see the square screen?

      Depending on lighting, you can definitely see the square screen at times. I don't find it a big deal, but it's not completely invisible.

    Thank you for the review. Would that be suitable for the work from home room? I was thinking of using as a pomodoro timer... Would it display the time going down? Thank you

      I would check some Alexa discussion forums (perhaps r/alexa on Reddit?) to find out about the display. If it's just a countdown timer, however, I think it'll display that.
      There is apparently also an Alexa routine called "pomorodo timer" you could try (according to ChatGPT, so take that with a pinch of salt).

    How do I get the clock face to also display the date & day of the week?

    • @AskDaveTaylor
      @AskDaveTaylor  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can check Settings in the Alexa app, but it actually seems to be a bit less flexible with time display formats than the first gen unit.

      @@AskDaveTaylor Thanks soooo much for getting back to me so soon. I figured it out. When you told another commenter that playing music blocks the view, I looked up and noticed that the alarm bell icon was blocking my date view.

      Actually, I realized today that it's the notifications icon.

      Yes, kinda boggles my mind that some of these devices show advertisements.

      Fair enough, then there are plenty of other Echo devices you can acquire instead. It's a smart company that offers options 🙂

      According to Amazon's specs and fellow reviewers, you're wrong. The major change with this redesign is that it removes the camera. Upon what data do you base your comment?

      There is no camera on the Echo Spot.

    I needed a smart alarm clock that had similar repeat features of cell phone alarms. I did not want a cell phone by my sons bed for a multitude of reasons, the least of which ensuring he isnt up all night on the device. You would think in 2024 this would be common but no, alarm clocks suck as bad as they did in the 90s. To stop an alarm you have to turn it [off] which means that should you forget to turn it back on every night, you get to be late for work/school. Total crap IMO. Cell phones make great alarm clocks for adults, but most parents do not want a potentially active 'webcam' in their child's room nor do they want their kid to be subject to relentless cyber bullying which can happen when the child conceals that from their parents. Keeping the phone out of the bedroom at least in the evening hours cuts down on this.

      um, just about all modern alarm clocks have mute features. Teach your son to use the mute feature if he's not getting up and he should be fine.

      @@AskDaveTaylor I didn’t say anything about snooze/mute. I’m talking about a repeat where you don’t have to turn the damn thing on every night. The only way to stop an alarm permanently for the day is to slide it off. If you get out of bed to go to work, you have to turn OFF an alarm clock. Hitting snooze just means the alarm will go off in 9 min and play for eternity. To re-enable the alarm, after sliding it to off, you have to manually turn it back on. The number 1 reason people oversleep and are late to work is forgetting to set their alarms the night before. You don’t have to do that with cell phones. With a cell phone I can make a mon-fri alarm. I never have to remember to turn my alarm on every night. Heck if a college student has different wake-up times for his Mon/Wed/Fri classes than his Tues/Thurs classes, he can customize those with his cell phone too. This device, based on my research, enable that ability without having a cellphone bedside. It arrives tomorrow so fingers crossed.

      Setting an alarm within the Alexa app should allow you to have it recurring every day, every weekday, whatever. Isn't that what you're asking for?

    • @eriksmith2567
      @eriksmith2567 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AskDaveTaylor Yep thats exactly what I am asking for. Its sad that most alarm clocks did not evolve into the same 'clock' app on a smartphone. I mean how hard is it to make a clock that runs the most paired down version of android with basic wifi, time synchronization, timezone, and the alarm features. This echo spot seems to fill that niche. Some people dont want their cell phone near them when they sleep. Parents definitely want to prevent cell phones near their kids when the kids are asleep. I am not really referring to the under-12 group. Parents usually do the waking of kids under 12. But at 12+, as a parent, you start to increase responsibilities on the kids to turn them into functioning adults. This includes getting up on time. While the echo-spot might have a bit more features than the perfect alarm clock I described, its still rather difficult for a young teen to misuse it to the point that it keeps them up all hours of the night or someone social engineer the teen into taking questionable photos of themselves. This very well could be a significantly under-highlighted feature of this appliance. Full clock functionality without compromising bedroom 'security' so to speak.

      @eriksmith2567 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AskDaveTaylor It came in yesterday. Does exactly what I need. This is a game changer for parents who want the amazing flexibility that smartphone alarms offer without the bedroom security risks of a smartphone where kids/teens are concerned. If you ever do a follow-up review definitely mention that. Parents that dont see the big deal in letting their teens have cell phones in their bedrooms at night have no clue about the concept that once something is put out there on the internet you can never un-send it.

    It’s a horrible product. Most of the reason to have it is to show the day of the month, week and temperature and if you have any alarms at all it shows the time the alarm goes off which blocks you from being able to see any of that information and it doesn’t go away.

    • @AskDaveTaylor
      @AskDaveTaylor  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Same if you're playing music; it shows the music info instead of the time. You should feed that back to Amazon's design team so they can consider improvements to the UI.
