What makes this beat the GPD WIN 4 is Aya Space. I even wrote a comment to GPD about this; they need to start serving us with some software. It makes such a difference in the experience.
I did the same and there response was that there software works fine for the TDP and refresh rate that there are not planning on changing it for the moment. I hope they’re were just joking and are making a GPD space for a better interface.
These thermals are impressive, it’s a good bit cooler than the win mini. Little misleading that reviewers had 28 watt power but they locked it at 20 for consumers. I know why they did it, but still feels sneaky to me. I watched many reviews and not once was it mentioned to be locked at 20. I did unlock it with bios tho. I’m gonna wait for new chips and I will get that neo flip kb or this. Can’t deny Aya neo makes some very nice devices
My GPD win 4 was supposely 28watts. But with a software gpd provide, it can go to 35watts. (Please upgrade the thermal paste). I think with right software we all can enjoy 28watts of gaming with the slide
@@akizer0 well in the mini u have to track down a certain email to get the bios to unlock 28. It gets hot enough at 20 watt, it’s no wonder they locked 28. Honestly it doesn’t do too much in terms of performance, so worst case I’ll do 18 watts, but typically I stay 12-15 depending on the game. The 7840 is impressive at low wattages
I was JUST going to mention the sidekick. I photographed metalcore bands a lot in the 2000's and I love seeing old photos with people using sidekicks at shows.
Very nice! Screen may be a bit small for me 😅 GPD Win Mini all the way! Couldn’t agree more with regards to smaller companies ditching the candy bar design and focusing on more novel designs.
I love my GPD Win4, but the screen size is a big downside, not so much for gaming, but for desktop UI scaling-1080p @ 6" requires fractional scaling or, preferably, going into your desktop settings and upping the default font size across the board.
I wanted to get a GPD win mini since I love my win1 and win3. But I just can't do it after my lemon winmax2 experience. I want to note that I'm still a huge fan of GPD. I just can't buy them anymore. I got the GPDwinmax2 from the IGG and it's never worked right. After over a year, shipping it back to China ($300) and then shipping just the SSD back to china ($30), it no longer BSOD constantly, but now the USB ports disconnect all the time and I have to bit-wise compare files after tx.
This one looks nice. I do prefer the more rough around the edges look of the GPD Win 4. Hey Phaux, if you'd have to choose between the two, which one would you prefer? I'm asking from a technical point of view. Battery life with the Slide looks abysmal, I'd like to avoid that. The SD has spoiled me.
I love the idea of the slide, just not the size, I find 6" to be far too small for the screen for many PC games, 7" is really the minimum IMO, and honestly even the the OG Steam Deck with the 7" screen I still wish it was a bit larger.
What's your experience with the win 4 I been debating on getting the ayn loki mak onexfly aya neo air pro 1s an the GPD win 4 cause of the that PSP style form
@@3dtheking i dont have any other devices to compare to. Its good, but GPD have very basic software. I just use steam as my launcher. And if i want to change some settings(TDP / Fan speed/ power profile), i have to minimize steam and navigate using the built in mouse/touch to launch another app. It breaks the immersion. GPD Win 4 is like a miniaturized laptop. If you want console like experience ayaneo is the way to go
@@akizer0 which ayaneo to go with and idk I always seen the GPD win 4 as my first PC handheld to get but I don't be seeing a lot of reviews on it or even it being worth recommended I think only one TH-camr who does PC handheld reviews says it's his favorite system besides the gpd mini I like looking at the win 4 just cause it reminds me of the PSP an not seeing enough reviews on it sucks a DS style form factor PC from ayaneo is being made an it looks dope I got small hands so I been looking for a PC handheld that can be comfortable to use also being portable since my current style of mobile gaming is my poco F3 attached with the gamesir G8 controller
Sliding screens are definitely useful for getting more button placement space on these devices but unlike a clamshell it still leaves the screen exposed when you're transporting it and it's absurd to me that only GPD is offering that when standard laptops are all clamshells. Biggest issue with the Switch too, I can close my GBA SP or 3DS to protect the screen but the Switch needs a bulky case.
I’m waiting for the flip DS model, it’s everything I loved as a child with Nintendo but with more power. The biggest concern is if it can run city skylines II, or Beam ng. They are pretty large games…
Thanks for the video, Phawx! The device itself seems to be a good one, but I have to be honest: I don't like how it looks. I look at it and I see something that Fisher-Price made, idk. 🤷🏼♂
i feel like aya shouldve included a Phone mode for this device like how the red magic gaming phone has a PC mode. As i could barely touch the screen with desktop mode.
I like it having a keyboard. However, we do not need keyboards to play games but lots of extra mappable keys and modifiers for key mappings. And we absolutely need a trackpad. It is the trackpad that opened up the Steamdeck to strategy games.
Yeah, some sort of mouse input is quite important for these things. There are plenty of mouse-only games on PC and most of them are slow enough that a decent mouse substitute would be enough, don't need Starcraft level precision and speed.
@@massivepileup I tried if I could play War for the Overworld on it and actually played it through. Mousepads and fully mappable keys are beyond brilliant.
Hey dude, I've always liked your videos for when I want to get in depth with a handheld I've bought (and I've been around since the early days of your GPD videos). I often don't watch a lot of your reviews all the way through for things I haven't bought though. A while ago you made a video about a claim that maybe you were shadow banned or similar. As an outside perspective it makes a little more sense to me why your videos might not be ranking as high as you think. Your videos are great, in depth, well made. However, they are a niche within a niche. I consider myself a pretty technical guy having done electrical engineering and microcontroller programming with some hardware modding, as well as getting interested in emulator programming and even OS kernel programming. You would expect someone like me to like all the detail you put into your videos, but even for me, I find it a little too much for my regular TH-cam viewing habits. I don't think you should remove all the detail you put into your videos, but I have a suggestion I've seen work well on other channels. Try changing the order that you talk about things. Put the most technical and finer aspects towards the end of the video. Eg. for this video the temperature analysis could be moved away from the start of the video. I skipped right over them. It's probably something I would want to look at if I was closer to buying this handheld, and would be something I would seek out on a 2nd viewing of your video. You could also split your videos into 2 channels - overviews for the masses with your brand of that little bit extra detail and great personality on one channel, and extreme in depth analysis on the 2nd channel. That's likely easier said than done, but maybe my first suggestion of thinking more about the order of the content within the video might be a little more useful. You might not care about this unsolicited advice, but for some reason your shadow ban video stuck with me and thought I'd give some insight as a random one of your semi-regular viewers.
No standby misses the whole point of this form factor which is mobility and convenience. I am waiting for something like this with an OLED display, but preferably not from a company like ayaneo that seems to consistently miss the forest for the trees. The GPD Win 4 is the closest to Valhalla and they’ll probably arrive there first. I don’t see Valve doing an OLED slide with eGPU support but I would absolutely love to be wrong here.
