Hey man, you reacted to a poor King Gizzard video live on Conan a while back, it would be cool if you followed it up with something a little more "proper"... The drummer, Michael "Cavs" Cavanagh recently released a trailer for a solo project, it's a drum tattoo, I think it's a much better sample of his drumming than the unfortunate one you did before: th-cam.com/video/KSAP-dVNa-s/w-d-xo.html . Cheers!

Funny how the pianist with a rasta bonnet is as well a drummer but the way he plays this instrument throughout the whole song is trully remarkable!

I don't think he is. I think you're thinking of Sput the band leader who is usually on drums. Sput is in a black toque, you can see him in the background at 10:14

I stumbled across Marcus playing with Carlitos Del Puerto in the Chick Corea fronted trio, Vigilette, for Jazz Night in America and I was blown away. Now, he’s right there with Larnell and JD Beck as a must-see drummer for me

Roy Haynes’ grandson.. kinda like cheating. Family of Gods apparently.
All insane drummers on Zildjian Live. But I think this is the best musically. Build, release, resolution, storyrelling, dynamics that create real feeling across the whole peace.

His playing with Chick Corea and his plauogm with Joel Ross/Immanuel Wilkins is my favorite, but also with Vijay Iyer.... And everywhere tbh, he's one of my favorite drummers of all time. Just as breathtaking as his grandfather's playing.

Australian Drummer Virgil Donati is in a class all by himself…Very complex extremely clean, rock solid technique. Plays everything & plays them well…He’s mostly fusion influenced…Composes, writes & plays keyboards & guitar, also… His band Planet X is unreal…His solos are legendary…Would appreciate a reaction/Analysis of him…I’m certain you guys will enjoy & appreciate this guy’s talent…

When you said he’s, “Telling a Story”, it reminded me of his younger days. He started playing at 10 yrs old and when he was 15, Steve Coleman, (a master musician and teacher), took him in and started teaching him different complicated meters and rhythms as well as fluctuating tempos. He quickly became a drummer who could ebb and flow through music that was less time based and more ethereal in nature. As a teen he once related to me what he gleaned from Mr Coleman, “Everything is in four” and proceeded to play four in one hand and an assortment of odd meters with the other hand … AND MADE THEM LOCK UP!! From this his development as a storyteller through drums emerged. Seeing him play with Steve Coleman and Vijay Iyer, & Ravi Coltrane, (who he started playing with while in highschool), I got the sense, just as you said, that he was telling a story and he was not bound by time.

Marcus is one of the greatest living Drummers as far as I'm concerned. A touch like no other - his Grandfather is the great Roy Haynes. If you dig Jazz I can recommend anything he has done over the past few years with Chick Corea and Calitos del Puerto, you cannot miss.

To answer your question about extreme metal drumming Andrew you have to develop cardia in your arms and calves and it takes years to do it. Eventually they do not tire. There are no long term health problems having more mitochondria so far for me. You do have to be very devoted and at first all you want to do is blast beat and when you have mastered that you can then focus on the groove. The focus is to channel your adrenaline and that is why we do what we do.

Honestly at one point, when he gets into his solo it feels like the band decided to fade out and listen to him shine for a bit and then pick up rather than it be purposefully done 😅, and I'd do the same lol

What do you call this style of music ,? Like I know technically it is jazz. But whenever I see jazz players it’s never like this. Like I’ve seen jazz shows and usually they play standards. And new material is always similar. What do you call this super virtuoso style off jazz ? Like snarky puppy and the music drummers use to showcase cymbals. Cause I wanna find this style of music for guitar guys as well. Cause when I think of Jazz this is not what I think of at all. I think of an old man party where the drummer is playing traditional and the music is always kinda lame. I don’t even know how to search for bands like this
Also it’s SNARKY puppy. If you find Skinny puppy it’s a lot different lol. My industrial metal friend back in the day likes skinny puppy. And I was so confused the first time I heard snarky puppy cause I was like wait. This cannot be the same band. And it’s definitely not hah

It's all about tastes. And while I'm certain this is top of the top shelf stuff, the keyboards really ruined this for me. I'm just not feeling it at all. It detracted from the percussion SOOOOOO MUCH!. Just not my cup.

about that sock... propably it's just his style. mostly, for muting open strings, to not awaking them by other notes while soloing, bassists using wool armbands or hairbands. just because getting off other notes. guitarists that play mostly by tapping use this for same reason. but sock? like i said, propably just his style to achieve same thing
EDIT: oh, now i've remembered right word for this. wool or foam over first or second fret is just muting overtones that are waking up while playing solos with a certain technique, when you can't palm mute other strings.
