Mom and sister are selfish narcissists that think every celebration should be about themselves and no one else. They’re willing to burn bridges with Emma, James and everyone at the wedding just because they couldn’t control their wedding. If they didn’t want to be shunned by everyone for their behavior, then they should’ve left well enough alone.

Seeing that it's me and my husbands day and not theirs they'd be excluded! See ya wouldn't wanna be ya. I hate selfish people who want to make it all about themselves when I've included you in my special day. There would be no one who would come between what we've agreed on. Family or friends. If you feel that changing my happiness on my special day is a problem then don't come and there's nothing else to discuss on the matter. It's MY WEDDING DAY NOT YOURS!
WTF! What did the Mother and sister want? When my wife and I did our wedding, we dumped both sides of the family as they really did not even want to help! We did it as we liked to within our resources!

My mom and dad eloped, so when my sister and I got married my mom got married vicariously through our weddings. She dictated everything that would happen, and I had no say in the matter. It's been 37 years and I still regret not standing up for myself.

Emma & James made the right choice. Brides' mom & sis were unsupportive & self-centered. As bride I would have made a speech, "I thank everyone for coming & celebrating this joyous day with husband & I. Though I am a bit sad my mother & sister, who was to be my maid of honor, didn't want to come today. As that truly hurts James & I. It seems mom & sis are so self-centered & uncaring of our feelings & being that we refused to succumb to their blackmail, they decided out of spite not to attend. But that's alright as we still have all of your love & support, & for that we are truly appreciative. So everyone, please enjoy & let us all continue celebrating on this joyous day!" With that said, I would have sweetly planted the shocking real reason why my mother & sister were not in attendance at my wedding! Thusly letting everyone know how truly terrible these two women are, but having done so in a nice way.
