There’s plenty electronics that still control trucks from 20 years ago and they are still fine mostly. Plus the electronics have really improved since then.
I disagree. I hate column shift. The column should be for wipers, lights and indicators only. Otherwise you get people who drive other vehicles getting into these and trying to indicate only to put the car in neutral. Either everything has, or doesn’t have it, and good luck getting 98% of the cars on the market to agree to a column shift
This is a luxury SUV. I’ve got a 2018 f150 XL that is an actual work truck. All manual options with fake leather seats easy to wipe clean and I’ve got the front bench and column shift. These trucks are out of control. Think about who pays for this …. It’s always the customer. When the plumber wants $400 in labor to swap a toilet you can bet it’s because he’s got a note to pay off.

The classic truck based, body on frame SUV is a dying breed, I think there are only about 3 models you can buy these days - Expedition, Suburban (I don't count the slightly shorter Tahoe or their GMC rebadges as separate vehicles), and Wrangler.

they give you a selection of expensive useless options that make for good marketing but simple cheaper shit like this that would make a much bigger difference in day to day life is completely overlooked. there are options my truck came with that I will never use, but they get rid of useful shit like this.

This is so good. I have a 2020 xlt. Love the bench seat. Love the cup holders. Love the place to put my phone. Love the storage compartments. This should be standard on all trim levels. Cloth seats too. I love my cloth seats, so cozy
If Ford offered this in their platinum pickups, I think they would sell very very well. I want an f150 crew cab with this option in the front seat. Perfect truck for most people.
everyone does know the 2022 f150 centre console converts into a workspace too right?.. lol shifter folds down and you can option out that same table. just are losing out on some of the leg room and the 3rd front seat
When searching for a truck i specifically got the low trim lariat because I wanted the bench with column shifter but still wanted leather and cooled seats. still love it. Sucks that its basically a non-existent option in the f150 to get a column shifter with leather.
I would only buy a truck that could sit three up front if needed. But some like the console and that’s fine. BUT every truck should have a Column shifter period.
My 66 F100 has a bench seat. I paid $1200 for it in 1978. It's a camper special. 352FE V8. 'Walking Granny' 4spd. Dana 60 Sure Grip. Add on power steering and AC.
It’s a workmen edition, I have a 2021, it’s funny because this is the single lowest end interior you can get since it’s the least optioned out. I got it too😅

They should have left it as an option for people who liked it / wanted it. There are the people who want their pick ups to have the bench seat but others see that and want it.
I had a 2020 Lariat with the bench seat because it would perfectly accommodate my small dog to ride next to me. I traded it in on a 2022 Lariat 501A with the same seat option for the same reason. I was able to get most of the available options I wanted, like adaptive cruise, sunroof, etc. I don't have that work surface option, though. I question whether that would be serve as a comfortable armrest, although I love the versatility otherwise. I priced out a new 2024 on Ford's website, and it now appears that you can't get the bench seat in combination with many of the nice options, even on the XLT. Even ordering a sliding rear window requires the XLT to have the console option, apparently.
Thats the exact way fords should be. Thats how the 7.3 powerstoke is. The best god damn pickup they ever made. Thats beautifully engineered and extremely versatile.
Column shifters should never die. I bought my 17 Tahoe over a new one for the column shifter. Dials, buttons, even center console shifters don't belong in trucks
Did nobody notice when he says cup holders in front. Pull out work surface with more cup holders. When the work surface pulls out you can’t use the front cup holders😂
My 2010 Sierra has something very similar to that. Definitely great to have that extra seat in the front when your daughter brings her friends home from school.

I once bought a 1983 C10 GTE phone company van. It had all of this and more. Space for days. We would play darts in it. Eat Taco Bell all over the dash. At the end of the day. It was a very stout purchase for $850.
I hate column shifters. However, I don't work with my hands so I don't need those options. And respect for all the folks that do. I just wish Ford would make this truck affordable instead price gauge.
Ive got a '15 XLT with the column shift and the center console for a hell of a lot of storage (with the locking security box under the armrest). Best option IMO. Then I dont need to haul around that extra person. Lol

i have this on my new f250. its kind of annoying, only two small cupholders or to slide the damn thing forward for more storage...but then you have to empty the cup holders to move it forwards
I remember going to a dealership and ordering what you needed or wanted not what the factory told you to get if you wanted something different. Now you have to go to the commercial truck salesman if you want your own specs. I tried this a few years ago trying to get a Colorado that had a V-8 but with a highway rear differential like say a 3:23 instead of the 4:11 that he company spected it with and was told to go see the commercial salesman that said yeah they’ll build it that way but it would only come with a 12 month warranty instead of the 3/5. Told them adios and bought a Nissan

The only downside of the middle seat of the "arm rest" is hard plastic. Not the best to rest your arm on on long drives.

I added that option to my 2022 and it has been the best decision. I am able to eat inside my truck without making a mess on the seats.

Well this would be the easiest option for Law Enforcement now since that's basically their setup but they use XL's not Lariat's
They offer that in the xl but law enforcement gets custom consoles made by 3rd party manufacturers.
All pickups should have a bench seat - My 2018 F-150 has a bench seat, FX-4 package and a sunroof! Took me 3 months to find mine in that configuration

This is how the tray or table should be designed! It makes way more sense then having the shifter fold down when you want to use it.

Nobody really wants a column shifter anymore. That was a requirement when i bought my new Lariat, it had to be console shift.
