Just an FYI, the image you used for the Ghostbusters was of Kenner's The Real Ghostbusters toyline. Schapher produced thr Filmation Ghostbusters toyline which was not related to either the 1984 Columbia Pictures film or the DIC cartoon The Real Ghostbusters.
How about the "real metal and bolts" of the 1970s "ERECTOR-Sets" that also had a motor available to make your creation move! Or, the mid 1980s LEGO Sets that was all about gears, chains, and reversible electric motors...
Parker Brothers Construction Company was something i thought was awesome but only lasted one year. I also have a fondness and most of the figures of the Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos
Those Chuck Norris figures could be easily worked into play with other toy lines, which was nice. Real fact… Chuck Norris’ figure had a kung fu grip that could crush steel.
I had Count Magno from Micronauts. It was pretty cool. It had magnets inside the body and where all the joints that attached had steel ball bearings I believe they were 3/8 Diameter. You could swap an arm for a jousting arm or missle arm, etc. You could also swap body parts with other characters as well. All interchangeable with ball bearing/ magnet system. Cool toy I had.
The interchangeable nature of the Micronauts probably contributed to their long run on toy shelves, even after they were gobbled up and reused as “Interchangeables”.
I turned 12 in 1981 and I didn't play with toys anymore. I don't recognize any of those toys... HOWEVER...I love cartoons till this day. I watched He Man and Thunder Cats at 14 or 15 yrs old. LOL
@@RetroDaze I have mostly some of the transformers figures, and some of the Gobots, and some of the Robotech toys, and my friend Jeff has the same kinds, and he used to have the four of the straight armed g.i.joe figures, and version 2, and one Webster figure from MOTU💁🏻♂.
Because I missed out on a lot of Micronauts because of Star Wars, I did have the Microman Voyager-1 vehicle because my dad sent it from Okinawa. When i saw the Interchangeables at our mall toy store i bought every Time Traveler and Cosmo i could and got the two steeds. I never saw that box of a command center on the shelves though, i guess its kind of a grail for me.
@RetroDaze For me, yes! I had a pretty decent imagination, so one of the Hourtoy guys was translucent blue and I named him Dreadstar after the comic and he had superpowers and led the after Return of the Jedi rebels in my Star Wars playtime. I had a few Kenner Klattu figures and because he looked kinda lizard like they served as Visitors from "V" and invaded the SW universe over Spice cause I saw V and Dune in '84. So my discount time traveler Micronaut was the war chief. My bud Louie would play this story line out with me and because him and I both had Millennium Falcons they served as the visitor's ships. "Dreadstar" did a lot of playtime duty and held up quite well...ok I'll go the extra mile with this story. Me and and my bud had a playtime where my "Dreadstar" went crazy and we had one of my die cast Shogun Warrior figure shoot him in the head with a spring loaded fist to bring him back to sanity. Don't remember the Shogun, but I think he had a yellow chest with rocket launchers on his shoulders. Anyway, thank you for letting me go down memory lane, the Cosmo Man and king tut chambers held up great!
Funny thing about golden girls is they are often put in as he-man toys and part of he-man collections in fact you go to vintage toy stores or cons it's not uncommon to see golden girl figures in with the he-man and she-ra stuff!
Dad wanted me to suggest Galaxy Fighters, not to be confused with Galaxy Warriors that were a direct knock-off of He-Man. Galaxy Fighters were a line of about 6 figures that were robotic/cyborg men. They had interchangeable hands and feet with slide off armor. Dad had 3 of them but we lost them in a storage unit fire, along with the rest of his toys I grew up playing with.
Reading this comment before getting to the 8:00 mark was giving me a distinctly different image in my head. For a few minutes I was wondering how I’d never heard of Rose and Blanche being part of the DCU.
I can see that … and hate that never materialized as Amythest as I was a HUGE Fan of the comic thanks in part to George Perez’s involvement on the early covers, as well as my love of the fantasy comics like it, Warlord and Arion.
There was this series of motorized vehicles that, with a switch, transformed into battle vehicles with missiles. It was like MASK before MASK, and I think they were battery-driven. I had a van that, when you hit the spoiler on top, guns would pop out the sides and front. They didn't shoot, and there were no figures, just that. I think I got mine at a flea market, but I'm unsure. Are there any leads on that? Great video, by the way
Wow, never had one but I remember the PowerTron commercials! Oddly they just made me like my Transformers/GoBots and M.A.S.K. more! I can't remember if it was Matchbox or HotWheels, but did you guys cover uhhh I think they were called Parasites or somesuch. There was a toy line from the 80's that I can't remember the name of, or find anything about. All I do remember is they were a line of collectable monster figures, who's gimmick was that you could squish them flat and watch them reinflate. And one of those figures was a guy with a wide open mouth filled with eyeballs.
I know this is more of a 90s toy than an 80s toy, but back when I was in elementary school, there was this game called Rotten Egg, which was kind of like hot potato, except it was an egg with a really ugly face. A lot of people don't talk about it as much. There's even a game page for it on GameFAQs. Also, how about a video on web/online games from the 90s and early 2000s?

12:47 that was probably more so that when Mego went under, the license they held from Takara was up for grabs again, as Micronauts stems from Microman, as north america's Transformers line comes from Microman/Diaclone plus a few others, and how Gobots comes from Machine Robo. The company/companies that made these probably were able to buy the molds from Mego's ashes (or were retained by the licensor as part of the deal because reasons). It is of note that Hasbro now owns the Micronauts IP, and that Microman itself came a license to make GI Joe for the Japanese market by Takara, who also made other Henshin toys like Diaclone, and a few other lines that went on to become Transformers (Hasbro and Takara/Tomy have had working a partnership for decades and exchanged regional rights on properties not co-owned by both). a LOT of Japanese properties were retooled for the North American market from the mid 70s onwards from Robotech (Macross and Mospeada, Takatoku Toys; Jetfire from Transformers by Hasbro came from this line as well and others had rights to the toys before Robotech by Harmony Gold was a thing in North America) to Voltron (Beast King Go Lion, Bandai), Shogun Warriors (various characters made by Popy/Bandai), Battle Beasts (spinoff of Japan's Transfomers line made by Takara with Rub Symbols), Go-Bots (Machine Robo, Popy/Bandai), Power Rangers (Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger by Toei, toys by Bandai), etc.
"Hourtoy" might have been a pun for "our toy", with connections to Marty Abrams and unsold Micronauts stock. There was also "Lionrock" selling them, further soldifying my belief in that the Micronauts aliens on the cards were sold WITHOUT their HANDS! "M&D Toys" might also have the "M" be Marty Abrams as well?
Your amused annoyance at saying "Snuggle Bumms" reminds me of 2001-2, when I worked with a good guy named Shawn, who was better known in the public by his stage name Sikki Nixx. He was even better known as the title character in the cinematic masterpiece Edward Penishands, a film incidentally really loved by Tim Burton & Johnny Depp. I mention this because I always look for a reason to say "Edward Penishands" in a sentence. The toy looks awesome, BTW, kind of like Popples. Incidentally, if you say "Snuggle Bumms" 3 times in a row while looking in a mirror, something really cool happens. (Haven't tried saying "Edward Penishands" 3 times in a mirror, but feel free to try that as well.)
At first I thought that perhaps these were toys from an alternate timeline that branched off somewhere in the early to mid 80's but I had a Micronaut. The Force Commander to be exact, but sadly back then Canadian toys weren't allowed to have functioning firing mechanisms so not only were springs removed but often the projectiles would be glued in so you couldn't add a spring later (like we did years later with Transformers and pen springs!) 😈

@@RetroDaze the irony is, i used to be a dj and my name was rhinox lol. of course I stole it from the beast wars one.
Correct. We have punished Alyssa for her transgression by forcing her to watch Mac & Me for 24 hours straight.
I remember all of those except AniMax which feels like something from an alternate timeline to me. Literally zero recollection of ever seeing that.

@@elcowabungahe-man6156 So glad it brought back some memories for you!
How about the "real metal and bolts" of the 1970s "ERECTOR-Sets" that also had a motor available to make your creation move!
Or, the mid 1980s LEGO Sets that was all about gears, chains, and reversible electric motors...
Both were so great and a lot of fun.
Definitely remember having Powertrons!
They were a neat novelty, for a little while anyway. Until that novelty wore off. 😆
Had a Powrtron, it was a cool toy, but we never understood why it drove toward something and when it hit, it just transformed and ran away 🤣
In robot mode it became as brave as a 5 year old kid. 😆
Any Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors?

@ oh ok thanks, ill have a look! :)
I have Manglors and Manglor Mountain complete in box and a manglodemon in egg for another weird line of old 80s toys.
Very nice! How did the Manglors hold up? Brittle? Melted into a gelatinous mass? 😆
@RetroDaze still Sticky in their wrap and I will not rip them apart. The slime in the package of the mountain is a hard rock though
i did get the manglor mountain for Christmas one year. that was the worst gift i ever had.
I turned 12 in 1981 and I didn't play with toys anymore. I don't recognize any of those toys... HOWEVER...I love cartoons till this day. I watched He Man and Thunder Cats at 14 or 15 yrs old. LOL
There was still a lot that was entertaining about those old toons that kept us coming back for more even in our teens.
You stopped playing with toys at 12 ? Who are you Ted Bundy ?
@Dad-Gad LOL, I got into video games and books. Nerdish I guess...but not Bundyish. 😎
I somehow tend to confuse Golden Girl with She-Ra as well as the sitcom Golden Girls.
It was probably a good thing the toy line and the sitcom didn’t coexist much if any. Would have been pretty confusing back then too!
I remember those transformers/Gobots knockoffs that were mentioned in this video🤔.
Did you have any yourself?
Did the Interchangeables versions of the figures seem to hold up alright compared to their Micronauts forefathers?
There’s no way Dan Halen from Squidbillies wasn’t modeled after Snugglebumms.
😆 Who knows? Maybe so!
🤯🤯
I jad the Knight Rider Powertron and thought it was awesome!
@@JamesHatfield1981 Not gonna lie… we kind of want it now!
I just realized that Dan Halen was an evil Snugglebum!!!
Dan Who?
@@RetroDaze
Squidbillies. A very bizarre Adult Swim cartoon.
OK you got me, never saw Animax before. Looks interesting tough.
It’s unfortunate too, as it really seemed poised to make a bigger splash in toy aisles, until it was sold off.
I saw a Robotech zfv1 and was in!
@@larryzeno7133 😆 Yeah there was a ton of Robotech at Retro Con this year.
I remember the commercials for Snuggle Bums.... I remember them being very annoying
😆 Yeah those ads were pretty grating.
Funny thing about golden girls is they are often put in as he-man toys and part of he-man collections in fact you go to vintage toy stores or cons it's not uncommon to see golden girl figures in with the he-man and she-ra stuff!
And that’s okay… they do fit in nicely. By design we’re guessing.
Snuggle bums were kinda like glowworm.
I remember them. You saw them everywhere for like a month. Then they were gone.
@@bjdenil They didn’t stick around long. Too bad really, seems like much thought, money, and effort was put into them.
What about "The Animal"? Nothing can stop The Animal!
@@triadianz The Animal is on our list to get to! Saw one at Retro Con this year.
Definitely recall Galaxy Warriors, but Galaxy Fighters we do not. This will be a great one for our growing list!
There is a legend that Golden Girls were meant to be DC's Amethyst, Princess of Gem World.
There’s not much out there on the net about Golden Girl’s origins unfortunately.
Reading this comment before getting to the 8:00 mark was giving me a distinctly different image in my head. For a few minutes I was wondering how I’d never heard of Rose and Blanche being part of the DCU.
@@rutherfordappraisal258 😂😂
@@rutherfordappraisal258 The Golden Girls vs Skeletor’s minions would have been epic to act out. Betty White laying waste to everything.
I can see that … and hate that never materialized as Amythest as I was a HUGE Fan of the comic thanks in part to George Perez’s involvement on the early covers, as well as my love of the fantasy comics like it, Warlord and Arion.
My Sister had the SnuggleBumms and Golden Girl; I'll check the other videos to see if you've found Keypers and Sweet Secrets (she LOVED them too)
Hmm, we may need to add Keypers and Sweet Secrets to our future episode list!
That last one...wasn't Micronauts, like several other lines, based on a Japanese toy line initially?
Yes. It has a comic from Marvel, too.
There were a TON of lines originating in Japan at the time.
Yeah.....
But what is the playset in the thumbnail?
That is from the AniMax toy line.
I had the black/grey Powertron!!! lol

I had the Golden Girl Moth Lady figure.

Inhumanoids, Spiral Zone, Street Hawk (yes, there are toys) Shogun Warriors (end of the 70s, technically) and Penny Racers....
Great suggestions! Thank you for that.

I can't remember if it was Matchbox or HotWheels, but did you guys cover uhhh I think they were called Parasites or somesuch. Matchbox/Hotwheel scaled cars n trucks that could separate top from bottom to reveal its innards change Into Robotic style aliens
We’ve heard of these from other viewers but the name of them we can’t recall.
There was a toy line from the 80's that I can't remember the name of, or find anything about. All I do remember is they were a line of collectable monster figures, who's gimmick was that you could squish them flat and watch them reinflate. And one of those figures was a guy with a wide open mouth filled with eyeballs.
@@Ironcrane Hmmm. This one is not ringing any bells. Hopefully another viewer has some clues. What were they made of?
@@RetroDaze I can only guess, but some kind of rubber. They didn't have any articulated joints at all.

Were the powertron toys connected to chargertron?
Not to our knowledge. Chargertrons were a Buddy L product while Pow-R-Trons were picked up by ERTL here in the states.
@RetroDaze I forgot who made chargertron. Lots of similar toys trying to cash in on transformers success

Are powertrons related to Chargertrons
Considering the origin of Pow-R-Trons and the fact that ERTL released them, they are likely not related. Buddy-L produced Chargertrons.
@RetroDaze so did Buddy-L copy them? I mean even the commercials are very similar.. and great video you got a sub from me!
If you were an older GenXer, you would remember some of these toys. By 1984 I was into girls and let my younger brother (78') have my toys.

😆 Understandable. That’s when you come back later alone and buy them all! 😂
@@DaiAtlus79 The Japanese influence on toy lines continued to be more and more prevalent into the ‘90s. It was huge!
I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that the Powrtrons were released as official Transformers in Brazil.

That seems a bit like overkill. But then again that is what government regulatory agencies are good at.
There is always the sky commanders
