I seem to remember an interview with Weird Al in which he mentions that, legally, he doesn't have to ask any of the copyright holders of the songs he parodies for permission, but he does so anyway out of professional courtesy.
He's right on that. Anyone can make parodies out of any song - it is the same as mocking someone or making them the butt of a joke. It is a form of freedom of speech/expression. They may not like it or take offence but it is legal.
I really enjoyed these two videos. Especially the quips, e.g. "Please back off, that was like a topographical map of Mars!".....and the exchange about their medical fathers was pretty cool too.
I love how they both respect each other but you can see how much Stephen admires Conan by the way he seeks his approval (sorry for the pun Conan, even though song parody is the lowest form of comedy-I’m paraphrasing)

Conan is actually super smart and witty; he wrote some of The Simpson’s best early episodes and quickly charmed the other writers as a newcomer at the time; soon after he was elected to replace Carson. They’re both highly intelligent and wholesomely snarky and that’s why I love them both. They are also both good actors
I haven’t seen Colbert this charming in ages. Its like his guests on the late show couldn’t handle him being antagonistic so he’s pulling punches and it sometimes comes off as passive aggressive. Which is too bad because Colbert really shines as a contrarian and as a provocateur.

I watched this and the previous video and it was fantastic to listen to Stephen and Conan bounce back and forth! They have such great chemistry together and it's very natural for them to playfully barb and banter (not to say less of other crossovers with Stephen which were brilliant) , and I loved every minute. I would love to see these two talk a bit more and play a game of ad-libs or something similarly ripe for comedy mining. Awesome videos!

These two (Conan and I were classmates BHS '81) are two of the smartest, funniest people I know in all of comedy out there these days. Stephen is also one of the smartest, kindest folks on TV, period. For some crazy reason I also love that they are both Catholic and yet they get and appreciate Jews. I love that they are my age peers, that they are white guys and - dare I say it - pretty evolved as far as humans go. I also love that - without fail - whenever I hear them they always get one or more "laugh out loud" moment out of me and that says A LOT cuz I don't do it much! THANKS GUYS!
