type moon and 07th expansion really show the idealized throughline from fan to pro via the use of events like comiket. the 90's and early 2000's were wild.
thats part of what makes the meta story of of the works 07th expansion made from umineko onwards. ryukishi really takes fan input seriously and the works evolve in a way that really feels like a conversation. when you know its there and what to look for you can see how the different episodes of umineko evolved from that interaction.
As a wanna be writer myself it's so inspiring to hear hear the story behind my favorite anime series, the struggle and hardship Ryukishi went through to make such an amazing series is heartwarming.
I think what a lot of would be authors fail to do is get some real world experience. R07 was a civil servant so he knew real world bureaucracy and how the dynamics of civil society works. He blended that into his words and contributed to Higurashi's rather dense story and some believably and immersion. He was not a writer but moved from his first profession to another and used those previous experience, as far as I know not too many writers have had other full careers then moved to writing, it seems they were always a writer. The same can be said for other things like I remember coming across an anime director saying to would-be-writers is to read other works besides anime and diversify your tastes.
Ryūkishi is the only novelist that i found on this era to be able to write above anything! Such amazing and beautiful novels Umineko's fantasy views, which in fact, explains the plot and chracaters mind in depth is it's true beauty!
never heard of this guy till today with the Silent Hill f (although it's totally silent hills) but people are freaking out about his involvement. so i'm excited :)
really clean content, thank you for uploading such high-quality video please keep up the good work, Higurashi will always have a special place in my heart
Im impressed with this video i actually got new information i was hesitant to watch it at first due to its length i thought i was going to be a dude reading off a wiki page in a monotone voice without doing any research like so many other videos - A+ with this one my dude
Super interesting video, thanks for getting all this information together! I've recently gotten super into visual novels and was just watching through this series anime, I remember seeing memes from the series way back around 2006 as a kid, so it's always been something I've wanted to look into. It's really unique, and the original games are clearly smaller scale projects so I was really interested in learning how it gained so much popularity, so thanks for putting together this great video that answered all my questions! 😊
Glad you found it useful! This is extremely atypical for doujin games, so it really took the perfect storm for everything to come together for 07th expansion.
I remember when it was around 2013 when I saw the Higurashi Kai intro and I really liked it, I wanted to see that anime so bad but sadly I didn't know where and many sites were FILLED with adds and viruses so I always keept it as a "someday I will". In 2019 I saw that Netflix had the anime and I was SO HAPPY but when I checked it only had the first season so I left it behind because... idk why I should watch half of the story? 2020 and a close friend of mine that I made that last year told me she was really happy because her first anime was going to get a remake and showed me some pics, it was Higurashi! At the end of December she asked me if I wanted to watch the entire anime saga with her and HELL YES WE DID!!! She through that I wouldn't like the anime but that was bullshit, I knew I would love Higurashi since day one and I did. The ending of Kai was so emotional, I was so filled with despair and hope for that happy ending that I fell in love with the series and waiting for Sotsu to come out and watch it every week was such an unique expierence... I'm so happy that I finally fullfilled that wish of mine to watch Higurashi. There's so much content in this saga that I still find, the story is just so good and I only finished the Onikakushi VN, I'll finish the rest when I get some time but that first chapter was such a trip, even if I knew what it was going to happen.. I'm reading the Umineko manga too in my spare time and it's been almost a year and I'm just starting chapter 7! I love this saga SO MUCH, it inspired and helped me to fix one of my histories and I can't be thankful enough to my friend for showing me this world. It's hard for me to be in a fandom for so long.. but it's been almost 2 years since I'm here and I know I'll be here for much more...
Just wanted to say that I’m a huge fan of your videos man! Always very well put-together and incredibly informative, it always makes my day to come home after a long stressful day and see a video from you pop up in my subs haha. Keep it up! I don’t know if you’re open to video ideas but if so, one day I’d love to see a video where you dissect Hanyuu’s character since I feel like a lot of Hanyuu’s character lore is scattered around
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoy them! Regarding Hanyuu, if I were to do a video, unfortunately, it would have to wait until after Kotohogushi is translated. I know it's not technically canon, but I'd want to include the content from that arc in some form or fashion, even if it's just trivia. Not to mention, I'm interested in seeing if Sotsu shakes anything up regarding her character as well.
@@WarudoChaos Totally understandable, and thorough as always haha. We always get only the best from you so it makes sense you would want to wait until we have access to everything, and on that note I hope you’re right and Hanyuu gets some screentime in Sotsu! She could certainly benefit a lot from...anything really 🤞
Probably the closest to silent hill anime we will ever get with a mysterious town and creepy shit Goin on. The monsters are actually our own paranoia and madness. What's awesome is that the ryukishi07 is also help writing one of the new silent hill games
I wonder where I could watch Ryukishi07's interviews. Anyway good job making this video. TYPE-MOON advising Ryukishi07 about anime adaptations so it won't fall to something as Tsukihime anime, that's news to me xD Btw, will you do a video for Umineko origin and creation history?
Most of them are unfortunately untranslated, but you can find a few recordings of the Acen panels on TH-cam. Umineko history video is likely to happen, just not sure when.
Great video as always! We're still waiting on that Satoshi analysis. At least I am. There's not a single analysis of him online or on TH-cam, please be the first :((
Unfortunately with Sotsu right around the corner, I would want to wait to see what new content is offered. If I were to say 'well Satoshi sure does always end up getting forgotten by Ryukishi' and then he ends up playing a major role in Sotsu, it kind of takes the wind out the video. Back when I made those other two videos I was banking on those characters not changing much in Gou, which actually ended up being on point. But the announcement of Sotsu changed everything so now anything is on the table as far as character development goes, with a full season of answer arcs ahead of us.
@@WarudoChaos Oh right I never thought of that. Well, I hope you're right because I desperately need to see some sort of interference between the Hojos. I feel like Satoshi is bound to have a role in Sotsu though, because he's far too important in Satoko's life to be just written off the script like that.
15:25 The Gou/Sotsu anime being so many people's introduction to Higurashi and WTC as a whole is a tragedy since well you know...it wasn't good. Not to mention it also spoiled pretty much all of the original story for people since many went into it expecting a remake and not a surprise sequel. At least with how canon works in Higurashi we can pretty much pretend it never happened.
Oh, I just wrote a comment on your Rena video about "07" in her name and then I start this one (randomly hopping between your videos at the moment) and you mention this fact in the beginning. Oh well.
I'd like to know where you got the info about Ryu joining a seinen manga circle (or at least a name). The earliest works I have found associated with him are a set of two doujin fan-manga for Leaf VNs that were produced as part of the circle Mizuburo Icchokusen (水風呂一直線) both of which I own and would not describe as being seinen. The one segment Ryukishi himself illustrated just seems to be slapstick.
Good catch: "manga" was an error which made its way into my script and that I overlooked. What it should have said was "seinen doujinshi". In any case, the source is here: 0707toshokan.wordpress.com/2020/04/14/the-hidden-all-cast-review-session/
It's such a shame Ryukishi07 didn't do the same thing he did for the 2006/Rei adaptation for Higurashi Gou/Soutsu. I wonder how much of his vision was butchered because Passione had free reign over some of the important details
@@WarudoChaos Those only have umineko and higurashi, but he's done a number of other visual novels over the years that you pretty much have to wait on fan translations for.
1. This isn't a reupload. 2. I thought that at first, but no, in fact, it is with a hard "C". Just look at the trailer and the title card: th-cam.com/video/wWFwTYoE8pk/w-d-xo.html "キコニア" -> Ki-ko-ni-a If it were with a soft "C", it would be "シコニア"
That's nice - I was also supposed to read all the "R-" sounds in every Japanese word and name with a tongue tap but I didn't do that consistently throughout the video either, despite doing it once or twice, including right at the beginning, so whatever
And now he’s writing a Silent Hill game. What a story
I love Ryukishi's story of pretty much starting from the bottom. It's inspiring and makes me wanna work on my vision.

The section about miracles at the end recontexualizes some of Umineko's themes in a way that makes it hit even harder. Thanks for sharing that.
