Makes me laugh this poverty shaming people go on about, I’m totally opposite showing off how much I’m saving……be proud of your essential trolleys people…. I’ve shopped at Aldi for last 10 years Asda has won me back with this new range
There's so much stigma around essential ranges. I love that there's vids out here helping show that cheap doesn't mean bad. The amount of times I've had comments that I'm feeding my kids crap because we buy cheaper food, but they're all made in the same factories as the expensive brands, there's just less of the extra stuff like sugar.
I'm 43 years old and I watched my grandmother making stuff from scraps and her generation. If you have a sack of potatoes and bread and the other veg and bit of meat you can eat very cheaply. Growing home grown runner beans and a few veg like cabbage and having mince is a beautiful meal, yes it's time consuming and you prepare the night before but you can live really cheap. Great video though my dad who's 72 uses marrowfat peas soak them and uses bicarbonate of soda and his mushy peas are amazing all the old secret s
Supermarkets don’t make food - often it’s a brand product in different packaging. It’s cheap enough to buy once and if you like it then that’s a bonus. I think you tube channels that are promoting asda essentials are actually making it trendy
I agree 100% it is not poverty shaming, i usually spend way over £100 every couple of weeks or sometimes that in a week, this last couple of weeks ive went for the Asda essentials and what a huge saving, actually shocked of how much i got compared to the norm, were all happy to pay over the odds for sky, netflix ect where that money can be put to better use. Great vid 😊
Basic food is often healthier because high end stuff is full of sugar, salt and nasties. We learnt this when my daughter developed type 1 diabetes and had to label study everything
Grew up on the no frills range, used to buy a lot of the smart price stuff can still gets bits of it here and there as they cross over. I like how much fresh stuff there is in the just essentials range. The fresh mince in the just essentials isn't as nice as the frozen one they do it tends to be chewy. The beef and onion in the frozen one goes a bit mushy but tastes so much better.

Great to show others you don't always get what you pay for(I have known that for many years myself). The only thing when more people buy the cheaper range is that it does tend to go up in price a lot quicker than it would do in so-called normal times. I am sure your video has helped a lot of people so well done for doing the experiment. 😁
When I found out the amount of packaged, canned & bottled foods, sauces & oils that are all made in the same factory with different labels & prices slapped on I was astonished. Sometimes with yogurt as an example the first part of the mix may go into the more expensive brand containers & then the last of the batch goes into a less expensive brand package because there may not be as much fruit, it's ridiculous. There can be up to a $12 difference in olive oil because one goes through a 2nd cold press process which costs less than $1 per bottle, there can be 3-4 different olive oil brands that come from the same manufacturer some the only difference is a pretty label that costs a few pennies per bottle & you end up paying $4-$5 more.
We have found the same. We choose the value brands whenever we can’t tell the difference. One way we save money is to always buy the basic cheap value pizza and add some extra toppings. It’s actually cheaper than buying the bases on their own and much cheaper than buying the fancy pizzas!!
Great work guys, lovely family ❤️ The mince is actually ok , I always drain fat off, the thing to do is flavour the mince, different ways, for dishes ie cottage pie add diced onion & carrot.
