This kid just oozes talent. Engineer, composer, musician, artist, well spoken truly one of the brightest of his generation and deserving of his position in MIT.
Some things you will always be better at and some things you'll be worse at. But the idea that anyone can be remotely good at anything without first work very hard is a myth.
I must say, the quality of production is an extremely top notch one. I look forward to seeing this channel grow into something even bigger! Salute to you guys.
There's definitely nothing wrong with majoring in STEM and also being involved with the arts. The only time this becomes a problem is if the arts begin taking over all of your time and leave you with little to no time for your STEM studies. I got nothing against the arts but they certainly won't pay the bills for most people lol whereas STEM definitely will.
Well, there is a research showing that people who floss daily tend to enjoy longevity. This is definitely not due to solely flossing daily alone, but rather due to the fact that people who floss daily mostly having other good habits naturally. So I guess there is a link somewhere in there between raspberry oatmeal and getting into MIT and you just have to placebo your mind into it, and with a little bit of luck and a whole lot of hard work, you'll get in!
I have a tiny crush on Garrett after listening to him talk about his passion. It's rare to find someone who knows of no limits and just goes for their passion while continually expanding their skill set.
***** and why do you feel the need to insult and why do you think I hate Islam? To me it's just made up nonsense which too many people believe for no true reason
Ale Giraldo I don't know which country you actually meant, but here in Indonesia we still have that kind of option such educations and high positions here are filled by women too. Not only me, but most of students in my engineering class are girls. That's why i watched this video, you know, day dreaming. Lol and oh, please no hate.
***** the daily mail is your source? That source has absolutely no credibility and even the figures expressed in the article are not too astonishing. Similar rates are probably seen of conversion to eastern religions... and I'm not attacking you when I say this but Islam is bullshit. There are no such things as magic or miracles and from what I skimmed from the second article, the Quran is nothing more than a book of myths which dominates middle eastern culture. Influence doesn't make it true just as the Bible isn't true and Harry Potter isn't real
***** and how are my claims ignorant if women truly are seen as second class citizens in Muslim society. They are mere assets of men and must ask for permission to acquire education and are forbidden from common practices such as driving. If anything, YOU are deluded about Islam
I always love these videos. They're presented beautifully and are so informative. Going to a college like MIT has been a huge dream of mine, so this was really inspiring.
great one .. it's such an inspiration tool push up all students to work hard and believe in their abilities .. thanks in advanced for sharing us this kind of videos .
one of the things that i hate and probably the most one about being in a third world country is that i'll never have an opportunity like this in my life to be creative and learn and do my thing in a decent place with decent educated people just because i didn't win the life lottery and born in a first world country it's truly depressing
Fahad Al Azawi i understand what r u talking about, but u need to develop one thing. Something you love the most, and work everyday on it. Yes, money is a problem but studying online can be a solution.
Hey, I’m from a third world country as well, Kenya in East Africa. Even though it really doesn’t feel like it lol, but I know of 100s of people who have gotten opportunities to study abroad for as little as nothing and learn about their passions especially because the elite schools are well funded and therefore very generous with their aid. So hopefully that encourages you to see the hope for opportunities around the world for education, as it has for me.
Its possible but in countries like Paraguay aren't able to do anything at least you have a lot of money. Even studying online is difficult since most people don't have internet.
Just remember that many people around me at university were similar to him. Lots of energy. Lots of power. There're many wonderful universities in North America. I'll miss my university for the rest of my life.
Truly inspiring, I too am in the middle between the arts and engineering. Now thanks to Garrett I feel more confident I can pursue both at the same time
DarthVader Sorry to say but your reply shows how dumb you are. Around 12 lakh student try to get into IISC Bangalore and only 2 lakh in MIT so its legit that the entrance exam for IISC Bangalore would be tougher.... I KNOW that American universities provide far more better education than india's but there is legit reason for that... "POPULATION" in my opinion INDIA'S biggest problem is population and thats why many bright students are going abroad for there studies and never come back... IISC is also a world recognized institute recently some of the students published a journal in quantum mechanics..
DarthVader And if you have any better option for entrance please suggest it to the government... and more over IISC Bangalore doesn't get hulky bunch of funds like MIT or Harvard no college provides world class facilities cheap you mug head... They charge you a lot of money and getting a scholarship in those universities is not every one's cup of tea... so god bless india that it don't charge that pile of money...
Man, if i somehow got a chance to go 10 years back into past, i would work my damn ass off every single day and try to get myself into university like that, instead of wasting my life on computer games and going into some meh college. This channel is superb, it really gives you that feeling you're actually studying there. You guys are making top notch videos, can't thank you enough for them!
Inspiration? This video got me frustrated with myself, more than anything i've seen before probobaly. People like him worked hard their entire life and now they collect the fruits of that hard work, meanwhile i'm going to university next year and i'll probobaly get into some very average college, because i've wasted 11 years of my life doing nothing.
You could still apply and get in after a year at an average school bro. Check out this link. mitadmissions.org/apply/transfer/before A couple things I would say is 1) Don't take on more than 15 credits your first semester of freshman year no matter what your advisor says. 2)Do whatever it takes to get straight A's(go to every lecture, always ask a few questions, go to office hours once a week, read the textbook and watch videos on the topic a day before lecture, start studying for midterms a week and a half in advance, make friends who are also focused). 3) Don't get a girlfriend. 4) Only join like 1 or 2 clubs/activities. No need to get too involved if you want to transfer. NEVER SELL YOURSELF SHORT
This video and this person really motivated me. I hope I will get a chance in less than 2 years to discover world as this young man did, to experience something not so common and to achieve one of my life goals. Thank you for sharing this interview with us.
mechanical engineering major, feeling very unmotivated and uninspired going into finals week. This helped a ton. Great reminder for what i want to do with my degree and life, awesome work!
@@largestfern Looks are nice to mention, but it's all the other stuff that makes people truly special. Plus, I tell him he's handsome fairly regularly to his face ;)
I have exactly same passions for music and engineering. I got my BS degree in industrial engineering from a good university in Brazil, but my experience was terrible compared to what I see in this video. I wish I could've had the same opportunity. If that's within your reach, don't waste the opportunity. Effort is just a very small price to pay, when you're already so much ahead in life. Don't take things for granted. Good luck!
I love how he's not stuck in one subject. He's multitasking and multi talented. Also some people think that mechanical engineers only are interested on engines cars and stuff and I love how he's room is disney decorated

The difference from him and the people feeling sorry for themselves in the comments is that he doesn’t look at the end goal wanting to be there the next day. He understands the hard work and dedication it takes to put in. If you have an idea don’t think it’s impossible to fulfill just work at it and it will happen. It’s like working out, if you look at your body day to day you won’t notice a difference, but if you look back a year down the line you’ll notice a huge difference . Everyone starts from somewhere

No such thing, I'm sure he put countless hours of vigorous work into every subject.
Agreed. Talent isn't much more than the results of passionate, hard work.
Not true I'm afraid, speaking as someone who put hours of hard work into things and still been terrible at them :(.
Some things you will always be better at and some things you'll be worse at. But the idea that anyone can be remotely good at anything without first work very hard is a myth.

I'm a STEM student that loves art and music. When he said that it's okay to be in the middle and love both art and engineering, it hit me hard.

I hope he knows that Disney is hiring engineers right now
Yeah plus they are in the making of a new Star Wars theme park and they are hiring a lot of engineers for that.
Austin I'm sure once he graduates Disney will hire him in a heartbeat regardless of if they are in the process of hiring.
Do you mean imagineers?
Omkar Nitturkar pay fees and study

There is a 99.9% chance you will be dissappointed.
If you will only hope, nothing is going to happen. You need to teach and motivate your child and not just hope.
Practice concerted cultivation and put him in the right environment.

Garrett seems like a smart, well adjusted young man. I wish him the best 👍
He is living my dream life. I am greatly interested in physics and music is my creative outlet. Watching this makes me so much motivated.
