    Total agreement, a man or woman has got to know their limitations when it comes to a major job like this. Your video is an outstanding overview on what must take place. Outstanding explanation and video.

    Great video. My neighbor has a Lincoln with a bad water pump and my wife volunteered me because I replaced a water pump on my f150 ( eye roll) and helped her brother replace a water pump on his chevy equinox along with the timing chain and guides. I could do it after doing the equinox but after watching this I'm inclined to tell her to buy a new vehicle. She was quoted 2500 for the job.

    If you own one of these Duratec motors: Change your coolant and your oil religiously! If you don't, your chances of paying for a water pump job increases drastically. There are videos out there on how to make these water pumps last a long time. My first 3.5 (2007) lasted me over 220,000, and showed no signs of water pump failure. Electrical issues sealed the fate of this car. So it is possible to make these water pumps last the life of the car. Don't be lazy, and don't be cheap. Follow the maintenance schedule -and use good quality coolant and synthetic oil. There is both an oil seal and a coolant seal on these pumps. I have been a mechanic for 35 years, and changing this pump looks like one humdinger of a a job! I am not sure if I'd do this one in my driveway, or just bring it in and let someone else deal with the headache of this one.. lol. And (ESPECIALLY) if you have AWD, change the transmission/case fluid religiously too!

    I had the water pump replaced on my 3.5 liter Taurus in February, 2024. I watched some other TH-cam videos and was very much discouraged from trying do do the work myself. Ford should have done it under warranty with as many problems people have had. The car had about 68,000 miles on it.

    Better plan on selling your Explorer before it hits 125,000 miles. I had to replace brakes, pads, calibers and now the water pump has failed. Two $1k+ repairs in a row. What's next?
    Thanks for the video, it does a great job showing what a pain this repair is.

    I wonder if a coolant lubricant should be added to increase the longevity of the pump?

    • @tntring
      @tntring ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't use the snake oil treatments. Just buy good coolant and good synthetic oil.. and do it a bit before the manual recommends it. Some of those synthetic oils can go 10,000 miles if you do a lot of highway driving. It's when your oil comes out like lumpy gravy that you've let it go way too long...

    • @joshuagrinstead8854

      Could absolutely cause that but the weep hole on this one’s supposed to prevent that from happening. Also cylinder head gaskets or any area where coolant and oil run parallel/ meet like an oil cooler

    My 2014 ford edge is going in Monday for this job it has 188,000 miles I been losing some coolant here and there but at this milage I'm going to spend the money to have it done I don't want the wife stranded because of it.. here's a thing change your oil on time at 4000-5000 miles I've done it even every 3000 so far the edge loses no oil hardly its a well built motor just not the water pump design .
    I haven't changed the coolant ever since I found out the water pump could be a issue I been afraid to disturb it. Got quoted $1400-$1600 16 hour job says the mechanic

    Holly FAWK 😂. This is what police department drive??? All that for a water pump. Compare being outside just remove the serpentine belt, if remove the fan clutch, then couple bolts.
    I just don't know why in the hell police department spends so much money on difficult cars. I mean pretty sure dealership making it hard for mechanics.
    As soon you said lift the engine 😂 i lost it. Do have the tools but damn 🤣🤣. Nope!!!

      These pumps rarely go bad before 150k miles. The police usually sell their cars before that.

    • @VeeSneedles
      @VeeSneedles 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@innocentbystander3798 they aren't supposed to at least smh. I'm the mechanic for a city that only has explorers and tauruses.. have had 2 tauruses under 70k miles and 2 exploreres under 60k that all needed waterpumps. The last explorer was somewhere around 82-85k. Either way doing this job is a pain in the a$$. Makes replacing the whole engine look like a cake walk.

    • @richardkrenek985
      @richardkrenek985 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Law enforcement agencies purchase vehicles which are built specifically for police use, rather than what they would prefer to purchase and use. There are very few cars which are built with a pursuit version available. Right now, for the most part, models available with a pursuit package include the Ford, Explorer, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Dodge Charger. If it were up to law enforcement, the Chevrolet Caprice (‘94-‘96) and Ford Crown Victoria would still be available. And maybe the Foxbody Mustangs. My last brand new unit was a 2020 Tahoe. I drove it for around six months and traded a coworker for a 2019 Explorer. I hated that Tahoe. I’d take a nice rear wheel drive sedan with a big powerful V8 over any sport utility.
