    If it's on the market, it's in a reviewable state. Don't be afraid to criticise just because it's underbaked. That's when you need reviews most

    I knew that any "AI" devices would be total scams seeing how AI still is half-baked. Until AI is consistent and reliable, then there is no way I would spend money on any of these devices. We all saw the demo and people already started mentioning all the red flags. We need to ask why silicon valley has moved to copy the corporate game dev community where they release unfinished products and expect consumers to lap it up?

    • @matthewdekker6064
      @matthewdekker6064 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +15

      I think Dave is probably right in saying that these companies needed to release the devices early once they heard that Google and Apple are releasing their own AI programs soon. I bet at the start of these projects, the creators had high hopes for what could really be done on these devices, but after plenty of tinkering, etc., they've gotten them to the state they're currently in, which isn't great, but now they've already spent so much money on their development that if they wait to release them until after Google and Apple release theirs, they're just not going to end up making any money. So they released them in this unfinished state because it was basically the only way they could possibly make some money back on the project - and still probably won't be profitable, but it's better than just wasting 100% of it.
      And maybe they totally plan on continuing to work on things, so the devices will get better and better, but they needed to show them off now to get some interest from people before Google/Apple enter the fray. If they waited, interest would probably be near 0 because these devices can't do what Google/Apple's AI can probably do from within your actual phone. At least, not yet.

      @DanKaschel 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I don't think this is quite true. In my opinion, a good AI pin is possible right now, but it would take enormous expertise and expense to develop for a market that hasn't been proven.

      It’s a weird trajectory these AI gadget guys are on. The phone has subsumed GPS, camera, watches and mp3 devices, among others. The natural gravity of doing things on the device you’re always carrying is pretty strong. You have to invent/find a use case that really shines as a standalone gadget. Rabbit and Humane are simply not in that category. Both are apps pretending to be devices.

    Bought mine a while ago one insomniac night, still looking forward to finally seeing it, but a lot of the wind already dropped out of the sails some time ago. I’m hopefully I could find a use for it as I’m ND and struggle with some tasks that phones are frustrating for. Maybe by the time they deliver to Europe some of these issues will be addressed but time will tell.

    You are on to the reason that the Rabbit R1 and the Humane AI Pin exist. Which is that the most useful way for a personal AI to work is if the AI has control of your data and does things on your behalf. This will not be allowed by an app on your phone (unless it is from the manufacturer). We are just now getting to the point where you can run a quantized LLM locally and allow it to be the OS. To some degree both these products have planted a stake in the ground, whether they survive the horrendous release of their V1 products we will have to wait and see.

    The hardware's fine. Certainly has potential;; mobile CPU, networking, audio, display,
    and 6 points of control: touch, button, wheel, mic, camera, and tilt. (and gps?)
    It's all software and this is v1.0.
    In the sort term, and if rabbit sticks around, and if the user base grows, we should see real improvements shortly.
    Can't see that happening for Humane's pin.
    (and rabbit also needs to provide a dev kit if they want to survive)
    R1 needs the one yet undiscovered killer app for it. I suspect that app is "a friend", like in the movie _She_ , crossed with a Tamagotchi.
    The workflow stuff is already covered to death by others, and the "virtual" Uber/Spotify/Eats etc. ball of mess is an idea in search of a product.
