    Played this game for the first time the other day and thought it was GREAT! Rules aren't that hard to grasp with all of us pretty much "getting it" inside half an hour (using the beginner game rules). TONS of strategy options. Found out pretty quick that attacking (i.e moving) may seem like a good idea until you deplete your two movement options and you're screwed. Only problem is keeping track of Stuff. Yours and others'. "hey man, you forgot to subtract Prayer points", "Oh gosh, I did"

    Most underrated game ever. It has something for everyone. I dont know a single person that I have introduced it to that doesnt love this game.

      I bought this game based on raving reviews from all over the internet, and it just doesn't do what I want it to do. The map feels almost inconsequential due to the unit teleportation mechanic. It looks like a strategy game where you stake your claim on territory and have to defend your borders, sort of like RISK with cool monsters, but I find that in actuality it plays like a bloated King of Tokyo. I don't hate the game but I found that it didn't scratch the itch that I wanted it to and I would rather play KoT or Smallworld if I just want to brawl with my friends with a light area control element. Kemet seems pretty overrated IMO, which is too bad because I really wanted to like it.

      I prefer Cyclades. Nicer art, better theming, no huge stack of cards to take into consideration when you're deciding who to attack. Who can look at twelve cards and assess how they all work based purely on the art/reference booklet (which you get one of)? Slows it down a lot.

    agreed, this channel is where i come whenever i hear about a new game. personally i think Kemet looks interesting but we have so many worker placement games in our group already. as for 7 wonders. i HIGHLY recommend it. if for no other reason than it can host 7 players without increasing playtime. since once you pick an action all play is simultaneous. we often play 2 in a row

    Daaamn, Tom, you just sold me the game! I LOVE Cyclades, to imagine a version that promotes attacking AND improves the combat system... yeah, I'm getting this.

    Ok, have tried this and Cyclades now and I like Kemet more. Just the combat alone is better (it has at least SOME strategy). Cyclades was just too bat s**t crazy, "oh look, Pegasus carried the army across the board", "oh look, the Kraken just wiped out every ship in one round". With the Hades expansion it's even worse. Literally, after almost two hours of play, one guy wiped out the entire board in one turn using Hades. I found Kemet had less "stupid" in it.

    Love Cyclades (with the Hades expansion) so had this on my radar since Essen. Can't wait for this to hit the streets here in the US.

    Great channel - I'm looking to buy some new modern games for gamer friends and this channel has given a TON of insight and options so thanks! - I emailed one guy about looking for a strategic, yet interactive/fun game and Kemet came up unexpectedly. Looks quite good, but not overly strategic - could I be wrong in that assumption. 7 Wonders was another I was reccomended which I admit, it looks pretty sweet.

    I haven't played it with 2 yet, so I can't vouch for that.

    Which is awesome, right? I love the system. I like the idea of discarding a card too, means your hand will refresh more quickly. That wouldn't work in AGoT because some cards were objectively better than others.

    Like the review, minus the "drop all the stuff" in slow-mo segment which I didn't get and just felt awkward and uncomfortable :-/

  • @johnrochester1419
    @johnrochester1419 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's not a worker placement game. It's more of an area control game.

    I love Kyklades and if this is as good as Mr. Vasel suggests .. I want it!

  • @johnrochester1419
    @johnrochester1419 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Giants and Smallworld are the only ones that come to my mind. But, I disagree with those other peoples complaints. Because, their is a viable strategy to defense and collecting temples and victory points. You don't have to constantly attack.

  • @StefanoPProductions
    @StefanoPProductions 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    This game looks great. I still don't have a strategic/war boardgame and I'd love something hybrid like that (war+strategy+worker placement+upgrades+summonings!), but I read a lot of people complaining that it is too much "in your face".
    Aside from Cyclades, is there something else (exactly) like Kemet, but just a little bit more balanced?

    Looking at the tiles with upgrades somehow reminded me 7 Wonders (maybe the colors or the artwork or icons).. :)

    I Have both Kemet and Cyclades and they are both great! Kemet is a little more in your face combat amd Cyclades has an auction based turn action... best grab both methinks - I cant decide whats better!

    Hey Tom, do you think Kemet is more fun in comparison to Twilight Imperium?.

  • @rockxhero
    @rockxhero 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would you say this is anything like Smallworld? Do you like this game more?

    • @Tennethums1
      @Tennethums1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nothing like Smallworld. Well, ok...maybe only in the sense that both can be classified as "area control" games but Smallworld is only that, where Kemet is so much more. Smallworld is a decent game but if you hate area control games but wouldn't mind a LITTLE of that element combined with other game mechanics then you'll want Kemet instead.

    Inis will replace both Kemet and Cyclades... easy to play and pick up, Deeper strategic planning, fighting, etc. PERIOD! Hands down. Any opinions or thoughts?

    Cyclades or Kemet? or is it just different myth and basically similar games?

    • @ubertoaster99
      @ubertoaster99 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're not that similar. Cyclades has dice rolling and bidding for actions you can take. Kemet combat is raw numbers + cards and you have the same actions available every round - possibly getting to do more of them with expensive cards. Cyclades looks a lot nicer and the theme works far better.

    Tom, you said great for 3/4/5...not great with 2?

    • @ubertoaster99
      @ubertoaster99 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two felt like a grind as you take it in turns to attack the same temple over and over again. 3/4/5 would certainly help to unbalance it.

    For the love of all that is holy.... why would you treat the game pieces like that, dumping them on the table?? It's like nails on a chalkboard. Call it first-world-problems but I couldn't sit through that
