I made these for my children and I added a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. It takes it over the top! My mother made them for me. I'm now a 76 and I hope my children continue making this. This works good with canned crab as well
I’m gonna try Worcestershire sauce in them. My mom likes Old Bay my sister likes lemon pepper and I like just lots of lemon juice but my husband doesn’t like lemon juice. But I don’t really care for the old Bay or the lemon pepper LOL
Mt grandma always added Worcestershire sauce too, and used crushed saltine crackers as a binder instead of flour. I would always drizzle lemon juice on them when I ate them. They were one of my favorite things to eat as a child!

That's the old fashioned recipe from my great grandmother in Illinois and it's the only WAY! My father had his buddies wanting him to make them every week and wanting the recipe which went to different people all over the country

Sweetie, thank you for this. I am sitting here smiling at my grandma making them, along with other fish. She knew the kids did not like fish, but we would eat the cakes. Loved her biscuits and corn bread. Wonderful memory !
And that's how we do it in the south! Are you familiar with "salmon gravy"? Sautee onions in butter, add some flour, canned salmon, water, and the salmon liquid strained from the can, then simmer until it thickens slightly. Served over rice. It's delicious, simple, and quick. Add a side vegetable and you have a meal.😋
I was just looking at Pink Salmon in the can at grocery store yesterday. My Mom made those with bread crumbs, eggs, and onions and coated hers with flour to fry. We ate with biscuits and syrup. Yum yum! I'm going back to the store. Thanks for bringing back childhood memories.
That was how my beloved grandma used to make them! I'm glad you put this in the comments. I have been looking up how to make them and I couldn't quite remember. She passed in 1974. She used mackerel, when she couldn't afford salmon (which was most of the time). She used day old biscuits for the bread crumbs. Thanks for the blessing! Be blessed, Miss Kathleen, today and always! =)
We kids fought over the canned salmon bones; they are so delicious and good for you. My mom also used crushed saltine crackers instead of flour and cornmeal and formed them into patties just like a hamburger. Fantastic meal.
I always make them with crushed Saltine crackers. Sometimes I add a little bit of panko. And two eggs. And form patties like thick small hamburgers. I always use the cayenne. These are great for any meal of the day.

I haven’t had salmon patties since I was a kid. My mom would make cream peas with it and I’d spoon it over my salmon patties. Thank you for reminding me of a sweet childhood memory of my mom. I miss her like crazy!
Andrea Longo ....my mom would make it the same but like a meat loaf. She would bake it, slice it, and make a cream sauce with hard boiled eggs cut up in it. Kinda different but I like the peas idea you have.
@@carolynhamilton3316 Well with a can of peas drain the juice from the can into a glass save it and get some cornstarch put a bit in and a bit of milk and mix it well and then pour the mixture in with the peas and put black pepper and a little bit of salt and the peas and the mix will thickened up and there you go creamed peas..
My best friend may God bless her soul she would have 1 can and make 15 patties. Man those patties would be so good, with rice and peas 😋😋😋. I miss her so so bad😭 RIP RobinMashore💔😭
@L Blacque my grandmother would have salmon patties with FRIED POTATOES & ONIONS. She would slice the POTATOES up, that was one of my favorite meals. Oh peas was part of the meal as well.

I was raised in Iowa and my mama could not afford real salmon. She always made us “poor mans salmon patties”. Later in life I found out they were made from mackerel. I can afford the real stuff now, but as a child we loved them anyway. We did not know the difference between mackerel and salmon. Love them.
I'm 77 years old and have always used mackerel because I like it better than salmon. I also leave the bones in and use saltine crackers. Make them into patties and roll in yellow corn meal and fry
We were so poor. Mama had a pressure canner, jars, canning salt always. People always brought us fresh caught carp,( very horny), well she pressure cooked the fish...We called them salmon patties as that is what it tasted like. Pressure cooking totally softened the bones, so the throw away fish were made very eatable and nutritious ...growing up poor. Poor people have poor ways ...
Having worked in the industry in alaska for several years and seen the rotted maggot infested pink salmon that gets put in these cans u would not give this to my worst enemy
I'm a Pennsylvania girl and up here we call them salmon cakes (same thing as salmon patties). We do it a little bit different, but yours look delicious also. I LOVE salmon cakes!! I take out the bones but leave the skin and juice, then per can of salmon, I add chopped onion, one egg, black pepper, a splash of lemon juice, and half a sleeve of saltine crackers. Then fry them in a couple tablespoons of butter or couple tablespoons of vegetable oil or lard (they are all good). Usually have them with fried potatoes and onions, tomato with dumplings or harvard beets. YUM!! I stumbled onto one of your videos a couple hours ago, and watched several just tonight. Thank you for sharing! New subscriber here...love your videos!!!
Wearing a teary smile remembering my grandma making these for us. She added yellow mustard to the mix and made flatter patties, but this is really close. She was from Georgia, too. Thanks for a great memory.

You are precious ! I love salmon patties. Grew up eating them in Carolina and now in Louisiana. You know the best food was when we had to stretch our pennies. Momma came up with the best dishes using what she had to work with.
My stepfather would make them like a hamburger pattie and he would put cornmeal on it before he put it into the skillet. He mixed his with a white onion and a egg and salt and pepper and o-bay and breadcrumbs. He would get rid of the bones and the black skin also and we would have French Fries with it.
I love salmon patties, my momma raised me and my two siblings by herself so we had to eat on a budget. She would buy a can of salmon and fry up some salmon patties and make some mashed taters or white beans with them and of-course we washed it down with sweet tea. This was a cheap meal that we had often as we were growing up and I still love it to this very day. So yummy!
This recipe looks great and I look forward to making them all. Prayers are appreciated for my bile duct cancer diagnosis. HUGS and GOD bless us everyone 🕊
I grew up in the mountains of south western Virginia, and I just want to say that even though I have not lived there in over 30 years just listening to your voice is so comforting..It takes me back to my childhood which was blessed and happy times, and yes, your cooking is just like my mama's was..
Just thought I'd pass on a little tip that I got from Rachel Ray when she first started at Food Network with 30 Minute Meals. Her tip is to take a large bowl and set it on the counter where you're working and use it as a garbage bowl. Put whatever you're going to throw away into the bowl while you're cooking, it'll save time because you won't have to make all those trips back and forth to the trash can.😉 Over the years it has caught on so well in my house that when our kids moved out, all 5 made sure they had their own garbage bowl in the kitchen.
Tina Sparks Me too. I also use those produce bags for things that will stink before garbage day. Things like onion discards, fat I have trimmed off meat and the “diaper”(that thing they put under meat to soak up juices) in packages of fresh meat. Then I put in the freezer until garbage day. No stinky garbage.
I’m from south central Ohio and grew up on Salmon Patties. I have been eating them since 1957. My momma’s recipe was simple: 1 can pink Salmon, 1 sleeve saltine crackers, 1 lg egg beaten. Toss together and form into hamburger sized patties. Fry in skillet over medium heat in a little oil. Serve with ketchup! Dad was a plain food guy, So we added the flavor after! Momma served these with peas and creamed cooked rice! Which is cooked rice with sugar to taste and milk added for a pudding like consistency! My brothers and I would fight over the patties that had obvious bones in them! Loved the crunch! Good times, great memories! Over the years, I enhanced my recipe by using red sockeye salmon and a tablespoon of shrimp cocktail sauce! Fry them up and oh boy, they are delish!
I'm on a low carb lifestyle,so I just replace the flour and corn meal with a dried up piece of low carb bread, crumbled up,and I fry them in refined coconut oil,I've always loved Salmon patties,my mom used to make them when I was a kid.
Mashed Potatoes and Peas, I always mixed em together on my dinner plate! Mama taught me to use crushed saltiness crackers with the salmon, not flour. I need to make these again because I haven't made Salmon patties in a long time.
I was raised, on fried Salmon, and Mackerel patties, and My Mom, would also, make Mackerel Salad. My girlfriend Pam, loved the Mackerel Salad too! I remember, when I first got married, and after we were married, for about 6 months, I found out I was expecting, my first baby. My sister in law, had a baby shower for me, when I was about, 8 months. My friend Pam, and I, were making My Mom’s, homemade potato salad, and of course Mackerel salad! Everyone loved, both salads! I craved for mackerel salad, the whole time, I was pregnant, I just couldn’t get, enough of it, well after I had, my baby girl, I never ate, mackerel salad, and patties again! I tried telling Pam, how to make the, mackerel salad but, she said it didn’t taste, like mine, but the thought, of mackerel made, me so sick that I couldn’t make, it anymore lol
THANKS BEAUTIFUL SISTER. THANKS FOR BRINGING ME BACK TO THAT SOUTHERN MEAL. I HAVEN'T HAD SALMON IN YEARS. IM GO TO THE STORE AND BUY SALMON . AND MAKE THAT MEAL. LOVE YOU FOR THIS. GLORY TO GOD. BLESS YOU. IN JESUS HOLY NAME. AMEN.
Just to let you know... the bones broken up, give calcium to your body in salmon, does not effect the flavor, adds little texture difference to the patti. It actually makes the best addition to your health. Just crush while adding for better health
It's a personal preference. My mom takes the bones and skin out as well. You know you can also get calcium from milk, yogurt, eggs & cheese as well. People in these salmon cake videos act like fish bones are the only sources of calcium.😂
We always use a fork to mash the bones. They are fairly soft and a good source of dense nutrients. Plus once mashed with a fork most never notice its even in there
I always leave the bones "as is" too...they are soft and just adds a little texture and are a great source of calcium. I usually serve with boxed macaroni and cheese and a can of LeSueur Peas. (A flashback to childhood)
I'm gonna try that. Thanks I'm just gonna place in a see through glass beside my kitchen sink. Not directly in sun but close to window , ad I'll see what becomes of it 😉
Storming here in California, just got over a mild case of covid( blessed thank you God) , WAY too wet and windy to go out, and am enjoying your video!!! You truly helped me through my sick days and I’m grateful!!! Thank you Tammy... just like momma did! Love you and yours😘☔️🐞🙋♀️🕊☘️🌼❣️
I just ran across this video and I’m so glad that you did it! It’s the first time I was able to see the bones and how to take them out! I didn’t know about the skin so I learned alot! I’m from Alabama and Georgia so I connected with your southern drawl. I’m in Florida now
I have about 6-7 cans of salmon on hand, make these about 3x a month with peas and boiled buttered potatoes. My favorite meal since I was a little bitty child, I'm now 66. Love watching Tammy cook!!!!💜
@@kewlztertc5386 Yes, for me. I use a few table spoons of cornmeal and/or flour. Instead of the salmon juice I'd put milk as a liquid. Never tried with cyanme pepper. I use regular yellow onion. Before putting in the mix I'd microwave to get tender. They will brow quick. Reason I"pre"cooked onions. Using green onions also is very good. Drain on paper towels and enjoy. My favorite is using jelled cranberry sauce on the side. You'd never think of that but it is delicious!! If I use canned beans, always use Luck's brand. Add approximately 1/2 can of water, season and low boil until desired thickness. You'd never know I didn't cook them all day. Thanks to Luck's for this and only Luck's. Others just don't have the same flavor you're wanting. Tip, the low boil takes out the tin canned taste.
Oh my gosh! We grew up eating these. They were the way my Grandmother made them. Many of my Mother's family were coal miners from outside of Pittsburgh and they were dirt poor. Mom would make them all of the time, and my brother and I would hope to get some bones in ours. We used a sleeve of crushed saltines in the mix to stretch the can of salmon and no flour or cornmeal, and definitely no cayenne (I don't think Mom even knew what that was) - just dropped right into the hot oil. And if there were leftover patties, we would eat them cold as a snack later. I love them! We always had fried sliced potatoes with diced onions and peppers, and applesauce with them. I don't make them now as my hubby doesn't like salmon, but I should make them just for me.
My grandmother also made hers with crushed saltines and minced onions. . Then she dipped each patty in beaten egg and rolled them in cracker crumbs. If an unexpected guest came by she would add another chopped cooked potato to the mix to stretch the salmon out further and make extra patties (croquettes).
Especially during Easter fish Friday. They are the best. We were dirt poor. We went to Catholic school when it was cheaper. We had to take mayonnaise sandwiches and or mustard sandwiches to school for our lunch. We got picked on so bad My dad was an alcoholic He would spend pay money on bars There were 6 kids. I remember walking over a bridge to buy milk and bread and some kind of meat for our lunch. I believe it was bologna The butcher use to give my mom chicken wings and short ribs They use to throw it out So he saved it for us. Could you imagine throwing them out today ?????
@@maureeneshleman1104 Same here except it was mostly air sandwiches, sometimes onion sandwiches. My dad was a Vietnam vet so yeah he drank, but all that pain taught us a lot in life. Sometimes I wished I could go back and change things, but I wouldn't know what I know now. And yes we would have the good days with fried salmon patties 🥰
I follow my mothers simple recipe for salmon patties which consist of 2 cans of salmon(skin and bone removed), 2 packages of Saltine crackers(finely crushed in baggie with rolling pin), 4eggs. Mix everything together till very thick to make patties you will know if you need a lil bit more cracker or egg. Then fry in skillet in butter. Best tasting and love the smell that flows thru the house. Simple and good.
I tried making these salmon patties today with the self-rising flour. I only had regular yellow cornmeal and a white onion, but they still turned out like a battered fish and very crispy like I went to Long John Silver! This ones a keeper! :)
My ex will not eat anything that live or has lived in the water. I was raised on salmon patties and I was craving them. So I bought a large can of salmon, I gave some to my dogs, and made patties with the rest. My ex came in from work and said it smells like fish in the house. So without lying I said I gave the dogs some salmon. What I didn't tell him was that the patties also were made with salmon. OMG he ate 4 large patties, and said you can make these again their awesome. Keep in mind he never asked what was in the patties until after he ate them. To this day that is the only way he will eat fish. We are still the best of friends.
I grew up on salmon patties. Mom always made coleslaw and fried potatoes with them and so do I. One of my favorite meals and something you can always have in your cabinet for days you don’t have something fresh or thawed to cook.
My mom and both my grandmas made these quite often. I made them every other week to feed my 5 kiddos. Growing up, my mom always made white beans, fried okra, and fried potatoes with them. My grandmas always made crowder peas and creamed corn. I would do fried green tomatoes and black eye peas most of the time.
Same here! We have seven kids and they loved these. I’d use four cans, but I realized we did have leftovers for the next days lunch. I was wondering how some people did it with one can!
GOOGLED “Crab Cake Recipe”, wandered around and found your vid. Thanks much!Delicious. I have canned salmon so will make it first. Greetings from Chicago.
Nina Haynes I don’t remember what my Mother served with with salmon patties. I grew up in Mississippi. Now live in Birmingham, Alabama and these folks go with the rice and biscuits. Love me some salmon patties.
I'm the youngest of 11. Ask any of my siblings, what's my (death row) "last meal" request...salmon, biscuits and rice! I have, at least 3 times a month. Try it with grits for breakfast.
You can also test the heat of the oil by placing the end of a wooden chopstick into the oil. The oil will be heated when you see bubbles going up the ends of the chopstick. Just another suggestion from someone from Oahu, Hawaii. Do you see how it bubbles up when you place the salmon in the oil. That’s how it will bubble up at the end of the wooden chopstick. Aloha!!!🌴🌋🌈🌊🌴
Have eaten these since the 40's. My mother made these twice a month. I think every diner in America once served these. Thanks for showing this video. Many different ways to put them together.
That sounds interesting. It didn't burn? I have been making a batter to fry things in with mustard, water and a little flour. Then roll in flour and chill before frying. Yummy mushrooms, okra, even fried chicken. It sounds weird but yummy!
No matter how old we get or what path we take it always leads back to our Mama's. Thanks to all the mamas who took the time to make history...and a delicious recipe.
I was raised eating fake salmon patties. AKA mackerel. My mama made it with finely crushed soda crackers, egg, salt and pepper and onions. We are it with mac n cheese, and green beans. Yummy!
I had just bought a can of salmon last week & it's been yrs since I had made salmon patties. I had just never put flour or green onions in mine so, I'll definitely try it this time. Thanks.
I always look for "Wild Alaska" on the label. It used to be imprinted on top of the can but not anymore. And when they go on sale I stock up. Both CVS and Walgreens pharmacies carry canned salmon and have them on sale a lot! Yay!!!
I've never made Salmon patties, but have looked over several recipes for them. When I found this video, I didn't think I would learn much from a youtube video about making Salmon patties. However, I learned 3 important things: Debone the Salmon first; add cayenne pepper; and be sure to cook the inside all the way and don't just brown them.
Heyyy I am just glad to be here seriously! These are my go.to channels for southern satisfaction... Wow that sounds good right. Southern satisfaction. 🙂🤤😩😩😩Anyway. I'm from NC & this was a bring up food meaning I was raised on it. I was brought up on these. My grandma put chopped onion some pepper salt pepper and either crackers or bread crumbs and a egg and season and man. I'm telling you what these pair well with hot sauce and light bread that is all we needed and I enjoy them that way till this day. But if and only if I decide to make a side it's rice and black eye peas and cornbread 😍 I'm a real country girl and I wanna say thank you for this 💖
I will be willing to bet most ppl that's commenting on here hve a little bit of Southern in them...my mother used mackerel also...when I was a kid she could buy four cans of mackerel for one dollar....oooooooh the memories.
I use a can of salmon and a can of mackerel mixed....tastes yummy....and I do mash up the bones too....good minerals in there! Sometimes I bake the patties in the oven instead of frying.....I just oil the pan well. Sometimes I use old bay or Cajun spice to give a little kick....makin me hungry!! 😋
I love your simpleness... I haven't heard them called salmon patties since my mom, that's been 22yrs ago. Mom used crackers, I'd like to see your idea of meatloaf. I call it poor folks food, cause that's all mom could afford. Didn't have the money for all the fancy things. Ahhh, the old days😄
I made these last night after finding your channel and they were an absolute hit. Even a couple who refuse to eat salmon patties liked them! I also used your recipe for 2 ingredient biscuits for strawberry shortcake. So good! I'm binge watching your videos. I love your witty humor. 🤣❤ Thanks for sharing how your mama did it.
My mom made salmon patties, we would pick out the bones and eat them before she mixed all the ingredients. Most canned salmon is wild caught and it's less expensive than fresh.
Try the indivual envelopes , I think the brand is Idahoan, of instant potatoes. As a mashed potato connoisseur, I LIVE THEM. They keep forever and you can "doctor them up" with butter or milk. I use 2 eggs for the moisture where you put in the buttermilk! Love you guys!

I might try that... so are you saying your mom used saltines instead of flour and cornmeal
LaToya Ferguson Yes, she crushed them with her rolling pin; never used flour and cornmeal. I just made these minus the flour and cornmeal-delicious.
I always make them with crushed Saltine crackers. Sometimes I add a little bit of panko. And two eggs. And form patties like thick small hamburgers. I always use the cayenne. These are great for any meal of the day.
I loved the bones, still do. And that's the way my mom made them.

Andrea Longo my mom made salmon loaf with creamed peas. Ha Ha . Childhood memories. ...I've never made creamed peas.☺️
I could never find anyone to make creamed peas cause every person makes it would put sugar in it and I wont eat it it with sugar..
Andrea Longo Now that’s country. Reminds me of how my family ate.
I once used a mock crab white fish to make “ crabby Pattie’s” for my grand kids, they loved’em.
My best friend may God bless her soul she would have 1 can and make 15 patties. Man those patties would be so good, with rice and peas 😋😋😋. I miss her so so bad😭 RIP RobinMashore💔😭

I was raised in Iowa and my mama could not afford real salmon. She always made us “poor mans salmon patties”. Later in life I found out they were made from mackerel. I can afford the real stuff now, but as a child we loved them anyway. We did not know the difference between mackerel and salmon. Love them.
That mack is 🔥
My mom would add a can of tuna to stretch the salmon and save money. It just added flavor in my opinion
I'm 77 years old and have always used mackerel because I like it better than salmon. I also leave the bones in and use saltine crackers. Make them into patties and roll in yellow corn meal and fry
I use both - Pink Salmon and Mackerel but I like the taste of Mackerel better. I also add Green, Yellow, or Red Bell pepper to mine.
Let's hear it for mamas who knew how to feed families and stretch a dollar. Great recipe.
My kids loved salmon patties, and still do
I don't get mine I lightly spray a baking pan and place them at 365 in the oven. 15 minutes on each side.
Robin Jones sounds good too
Having worked in the industry in alaska for several years and seen the rotted maggot infested pink salmon that gets put in these cans u would not give this to my worst enemy
Steve Dahlke yum ,I didn’t think that was just salmon
Perfect combination ! Thanks
My momma put yellow mustard in her also

You are precious ! I love salmon patties. Grew up eating them in Carolina and now in Louisiana. You know the best food was when we had to stretch our pennies. Momma came up with the best dishes using what she had to work with.
My stepfather would make them like a hamburger pattie and he would put cornmeal on it before he put it into the skillet. He mixed his with a white onion and a egg and salt and pepper and o-bay and breadcrumbs. He would get rid of the bones and the black skin also and we would have French Fries with it.
You want samon patties real fish flavoring .Why putting all these ingredients decrease the flavor of salmon fish taste. Then your not a fish eater .
Yup! That's how my Mom makes hers & how I make mine.
My mom just crunched up the bones with a fork so you couldn't see them ...but she did take out the black skin which looks kind of nasty in my opinion.
The bones r amazing! The skin u fry separate, sooo good and crispy. 👍
You're right, these are not patties, these are croquettes.
So yummy!
Then ur mom feed u well can salmon is not cheap

I grew up in the mountains of south western Virginia, and I just want to say that even though I have not lived there in over 30 years just listening to your voice is so comforting..It takes me back to my childhood which was blessed and happy times, and yes, your cooking is just like my mama's was..
I shake my canned beans before I open the can and it mixes all those good broth and thickness of heaven.
My favorite way to eat salmon patties is after they've been chilled in the fridge and I eat them as a snack.
Mama said "I'm not tryna impress company because it's for my sister" I KNOW THAT'S RIGHT😍
😆 lol
I caught that too and smiled
Just thought I'd pass on a little tip that I got from Rachel Ray when she first started at Food Network with 30 Minute Meals. Her tip is to take a large bowl and set it on the counter where you're working and use it as a garbage bowl. Put whatever you're going to throw away into the bowl while you're cooking, it'll save time because you won't have to make all those trips back and forth to the trash can.😉 Over the years it has caught on so well in my house that when our kids moved out, all 5 made sure they had their own garbage bowl in the kitchen.
Now this is a tip from bk when I enjoyed Rachel Ray
I gave a ' Garbage Bowl' too LOL
Tina Sparks Me too. I also use those produce bags for things that will stink before garbage day. Things like onion discards, fat I have trimmed off meat and the “diaper”(that thing they put under meat to soak up juices) in packages of fresh meat. Then I put in the freezer until garbage day. No stinky garbage.
Gonna try the garbage bowl.
you beat me to that tip.haha. is she barefoot?

We have a trailer in Pensacola and fish there a lot!
I’m from south central Ohio and grew up on Salmon Patties. I have been eating them since 1957. My momma’s recipe was simple:
1 can pink Salmon, 1 sleeve saltine crackers, 1 lg egg beaten.
I put a beaten egg and 1/4 cup of whole milk along with the onions in mine
Mom always served salmon patties with creamed peas. It is a great combination!

I'm cooking salmon patties right now. This lady sounds so sweet and down to earth. God bless her heart❤❤❤
This momma loves that you respect and enjoy what you learned and…that you are creating your own way!
Just to let you know... the bones broken up, give calcium to your body in salmon, does not effect the flavor, adds little texture difference to the patti. It actually makes the best addition to your health. Just crush while adding for better health
Linda Robinson you are right about the bones in salmon i leave a little bit of the bones
No me, man! I make the salmon for the family, but the bones are all MINE!!!
Linda Robinson : affect
It's a personal preference. My mom takes the bones and skin out as well. You know you can also get calcium from milk, yogurt, eggs & cheese as well. People in these salmon cake videos act like fish bones are the only sources of calcium.😂
My wife left the bones in and didn't tell me, and I didn't even notice. After all the seasoning, onions, etc, it makes no difference
We always use a fork to mash the bones. They are fairly soft and a good source of dense nutrients. Plus once mashed with a fork most never notice its even in there
The bones r amazing to eat “as is”.. I love them more than the salmon! 🤣🤣 The skin u fry separate too, sooo good and crispy. 👍
I always leave the bones "as is" too...they are soft and just adds a little texture and are a great source of calcium. I usually serve with boxed macaroni and cheese and a can of LeSueur Peas. (A flashback to childhood)
@@rfowler6039 we LOVE LOVE LeSeur peas!!!😁🙌

What's interesting, is everyone's mama made a version of this, regardless of location or race.
But my mommas was the best
NO! not everyone! My Mother made great salmon patties and she didn't add all that filler!
@@windella Wouldn't that be s version of salmon patties without filler?
@@roxannearrowsmith7324 Yum, cornmeal will add texture. I believe my mums used to add that as well along with bell peppers.

Save some juice to make white gravy for the patties too. Also, any left over patties can be served in the next mornings' biscuits, too.
I sprinkle a tiny bit of flour into the pan & look for the bubbling action of the oil

A little-known fact: canned salmon are wild, not farmed.
Maybe at one time, but not now. All the canned salmon in my store are farmed.

Accompanied by rice pilaf made with toasted almonds, dried apricots and homemade chicken broth 🥘and a hugh salad with fresh orange segments and Spanish onions🥗 in a vinaigrette (of course Spanish Olive oil and sherry vinegar👅🍷 (from Jerez )! 💃 ¡OLE!
TY for teaching a new generation and bringing back wonderful memories!👍 Seams very International 🌎 as I know Jamaicans and Italians and Africans who made these!

My Nanny was raised real poor. Even though PaPa made good money, she always tried to stretch everything to feed the most people. She would use
1Egg
3-4Tbsp juice from the can
Half a sleeve saltines
Handful of oatmeal
She would make the patties, then coat them with cornmeal.
That's all she used. She fried them, and served then with ketchup for dipping. I still do it Nanny's way🌻I sure do enjoy watching you, Tammy. Any time I can't remember exactly what Nanny did, I look it up first on CVC. Thank you for keeping tradition alive. I hope y'all have a great day today🌻
Now couldn't you have made some cut green beans to go along with them salmon cakes, and some Macaroni and Cheese(the Kraft kind)? and some Kool Aid with Ice in the glass. oh yeah and some corn bread!!!
