Installing the ABUS Pro Tectic 4960 Frame Lock with Clutching Strap LH Adapter on a Bunch Cargo Bike

- In this video we demonstrate how to install the ABUS Pro Tectic 4960 Frame Lock onto your Bunch cargo bike using the Clutching Strap LH Adapter.
NOTE: The video shows us using an 8mm wrench to tighten the lock nuts, but we now recommend an 8mm socket wrench instead.
Additional Tools Required:

I find that in order to slide the caliper lever down I have to turn the key slightly clockwise, otherwise it doesn't slide. Do you find this to be true? Also, you might be interested to know that when I got my first three speed "English Racer" almost sixty years ago, it came with a "GB Lock" which this seems to be a future version of. The GB lock didn't use a key but had a push/pull button combination scenario ( in skip out out in type of thing). Also, it was much easier to attach to the rear fork. It had a bolt that went through it and had a big wing bolt kind of wing that would tighten against the other side of the fork. That was a better design than the Abus. It was infinitely easier to install and much more solid. I passed this GB Lock down from bicycle to bicycle and about 15 years ago it finally broke. I've been Googling GB Locks ever since to no avail until I found the Abus.
Thanks for the informative video. I've just ordered one of these for my E-bike and was worried about it being too close to the frame as I have 3 screw holes that are sticking out slightly proud (I don't think they will line up with the lock unfortunately) so it's good to see it sits a little bit away from the frame. I might design and print a 3D bracket of some description so it supports it more against the frame so it doesn't have the wobble. It just doesn't seem all that secure to the bike to me although if was ripped off the frame the bike still wouldn't ride but the back wheel could still be stolen.
Then you easily put another on the back wheel.

I'm trying to figure out if this will work with my Heybike Cityscape. Looks like the posts around the rear wheel are too far apart but I don't have a frame lock to test with.
Where can I buy the kit w/ adapter ties and so on? I have an Aventon Level. I bougth the ABUS pro tectic 4960 in Amazon, it came without the kit.
When tightening the unit with the allen wrench, the interior "guts" of the unit keep sliding out. How do we correct this from happening?

I just bought a Blix Vita-Flex+ that has 2.5 inch tires. Which ABUS frame lock will work with these tires?
The 2nd to largest one will fit. Look for the one with an L next to the Abus frame lock name.
How secure is that once it's on there via straps? Couldn't someone just cut it off?
If someone cut it off the lock would still be locked around the rear wheel and it would still be impossible to steal the wheel off the frame.
@@awmxxx no, it locks the wheel inside frame triangle, so nobody can ride bike or steal the wheel but it is still possible to steal the bike by lifting it (if chain is not inserted into this lock and wrapped around some immovable object).
Why on earth would they sell this lock without the adapter? Who would already have the adapter? Also the covers weren't so easy to get back on.
Some bikes (mostly European) have mounts on the seat stays for wheel lock bolts.
What size are the nuts I didn't get any in my kit?

What are the inside measurements of the lock. What you put over the wheel. The width of my ebike tire is 24mm approx. Hope someone out there understands this.
cafe lock width is 50mm or you can get 60 mm

Depends on the model.
Abus makes two versions for each of their frame locks. One key retaining, one not.
Can the key be removed after unlocking the bike?

It depends. KR version doesn't allow key removal when unlocked and NR allows key removal when unlocked.
I'm confused. So, it's only held to your bike by metal straps? Didn't seem very secure. I thought those adapter pieces would screw into the frame of the bike.
If you had a place on your bike to screw in (many do), then you wouldn't need an adapter at all.
It doesn’t really matter, since this type of lock is mostly meant to prevent opportunists from riding off with the bike by immobilizing the wheel.
If your concern is wheel theft, you’re better off with security bolts/skewers.
Even if the straps are cut, the lock remains locked to the wheel which makes the bike unridable.
Those hex key all threads for tightening the strap are too short. They need to be longer.

I know, it was painful doing it. We quickly updated the notes on the video to recommend a socket instead.
Maybe it's just me. But the Abus frame lock seems like a very wonky solution.
After that video im pretty shure i wont buy it :)
