    Love your videos! So relaxing, calming, enjoyable. There is such feeling with your photography, and you really capture the essence of the BWCA! My husband and I put in at Little Gabbro back in 2007 and paddled a little ways up the South Kawishiwi river. We cut our trip short after four days due to cold and ice (it was early May), but I remember how stunning that area was! The rock formations were so beautiful! We did eight trips together in the BWCA and he did two solos. Now he is suffering from a disease that is taking his life away slowly and we are not able to do any BWCA trips together. But we have lots of memories to look back on! When I feel anxious and afraid, these kind of relaxing adventures help to calm me down and help me to hold on to what is good in this world! Paddle on!

      Thank you for the very thoughtful comments! I can't believe we hadn't gone to this area sooner... it is beautiful and fairly easy to access. This spring we revisted the South Kawishiwi entry but the record rains and snowmelt altered our plans due to flooding... we still had a great trip!
      So sorry to hear about your husband's declining health, sounds like you have wonderful memories. Prayers and peace to you both.

    Looked like a magical trip…plenty of opportunities to get some rain fly practice in as well 😂…quality images as always

    Wow as always each shot is better than the last. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite view. I've been that route but sure looks prettier than mine although we were there in late August couple years back. I'm 78 and the longer portages are no longer kind to my back. but the wilderness keeps calling me back. It looks like you stopped around the dam at Little Gabbro.

      Thanks Steve! Things probably look prettier than what you remember because my camera is in the bag during those times :-)
      My group has also slowed down, but even though we don't cover as much distance, we still have plenty of time to do the fun stuff!

    In September 2021 our team of five canoeists will be paddling three canoes up the Kawishiwi River to camp on Lake One.

    Loved this! Thanks so much for sharing to TH-cam! I randomly saw this and clicked on it and it was probably one of the most relaxing videos I’ve seen in a long time! Camping trips really are the best getaways!

    Thank you as always for posting a beautiful memory-provoking video of your BWCA experience. I gasped when I saw the photos at the 9:31 - 9:40 time in the video that vividly captured Jupiter and Saturn in the evening sky, Jupiter being the very bright one, in the center, and Saturn on its left slightly elevated. These two planets were in rare close proximity from June into December in MN in 2020, and particularly stood out on clear evenings in the BWCA on my 2 trips this year.

      Thanks Gary! Yes, one of the guys on the trip pointed out Jupiter and Saturn to us... really cool to be able to experience that up there!

    Fabulous. The popple and maple look amazing. Some of the finest photography I have ever seen of the BWCA. Many, many thanks you guys.
    By the way....how well do you like the Souris River canoe? Are bent paddles worth it?

    • @HamerNaturePhotos
      @HamerNaturePhotos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daveenyart I have not paddled the Souris River, but the owner really likes the stability and its a fairly light weight package. I know they hae a great reputation. We like bent shaft paddles... they are more efficient but I find it's a suble difference between them and the straight shaft.

    I went in to Gabbro from Little Gabbro #33 pt. Oct. 1. Wow the traffic on the portage was crazy. A large group had hired Porters from the Outfitter. I took the first campsite in Gabbro, by the narrows. Water levels very low, maybe -5' from normal. All but one campsite was full. Lots of traffic. Would have been cool to have met up with you guys ! Your pics and video are always the Best ! Thanks for sharing ! Oh I spent my last night on Lake One with "Nibimocs". The Icing on the cake !

    • @HamerNaturePhotos
      @HamerNaturePhotos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Jim - We were within a few miles of each other! We noticed the lower water levels too... it made some of the portages tougher with more rocks exposed.
      We also noticed an uptick in crowds about Oct. 1... wondered if it was more people coming in due to no reservations required after Oct 1. Definitely a strange year... after the drive from Iowa, we normally stay at a NF campground the night before the trip. When we got there, South Kawishiwi, Fall Lake and Birch Lake campgrounds were all full! We got lucky when someone checked out of South Kawishiwi just before dark!
      Pretty cool you could link up with Larry too!

    Wonderful video of your BW trip as usual! Very nice job. Most all of the BW video's I watch I skim through just to see areas I may not have been, except yours! Always enjoy your video's from start to finish because they are done so well! I put in on Clearwater Lake off the Gunflint on Oct, 16. Turned into a heavy wet snow trip with temps in the teens and everything icing up. Got a bit on the dangerous side so packed out early, till spring time I guess. Take care.

      Donald, thanks for commenting and watching the video all the way through :-) Sounds like a wise decision to pack out early. I was reading on bwca.com about a couple of rescues that recently occured in the BWCAW due to the wet heavy snow and icing.

    I've taken many of the same routes and stayed at the same campsites. My pics don't to the BWCA justice. One of my favorites of yours is of one of the central sites on Hustler Lake. One of my favorite sites and trips and when I see that pic, I see myself in that exact same spot. Same with the "Hilton" site on EP #32.

      @@HamerNaturePhotos Thanks much! I thought that looked like copper. These new grates are spaced so wide it's easy to loose things to the fire.
