I was SO exhausted after that poor tagé while prone doing the cOUCH😣 potato position🥵; however thanks for all the paddling work & sharing. AWESOME visuals and sound w ALL the vids! God has blessed all of the members in ur canoeing group w His glory in the BWCA. 🌈It is inspiring✝️❣️
Thanks Ken! It was really cool to watch... he swooped in once to grab part of the fish, but it happened so fast I missed the shot. Then he came back and made a second pass and I got it :-)
The most beautiful photos I've seen of this most beautiful place. Wow is all I can say. I took my only trip to the bwca in 2011 at age 63. Really had no idea what I was getting into. Was very very hot and we totaled 48 portages, very exhausting. Thanks for taking me back..... Stunning photography!
Thanks for commenting and watching! Wow, 48 portages is a bunch for sure, especially in hot weather! That is one good thing about the Fall trips we take... usually much cooler.
Thank you for this video Gary. I've been to the BWCA 8 times and once many years ago to Mudro and down the Horse River to lower Basswood Falls then back up to Horse Lake. Now in my mid 70s l am having back snd some breathing problems but have wanted to do this for years. This year (2019) may be the year. Going slow, maybe triple portage abd i think it would work. When you guys day tripped to wheel barrow falls and Table Rock, were you base camping? My Partner Patti (age 61) are retired so lebgth if tims in the woids is not an issue we like it there. I've watched this video many many times. We also are looking for a small place in Ely with help from Jeff Hway. Thanks for wading thru this.
Hello Steve, thanks for watching and commenting! Yes, when we visited both Table Rock and Wheelbarrow Falls, we were base camped at the site just below Lower Basswood Falls. It's a great site, but the site just above the falls is nice too. It is great exploring the area around the falls... be careful though if the rocks around the falls are wet. If you go in the fall, be sure to check with the ranger station for water levels on the Horse River... one year we went, the water was low and it was very tough going. The bwca.com discussion forum is also a great resource for current conditions up there. Have fun!
Gary, I really enjoyed this. It's been a few years since I've been to the Lower Basswood Falls area and your slide show took me right back. Very well done.
Thanks for sharing this. Your photos are absolutely stunning! I travelled part of your route last year (although I put in at Fall and got out at Mudrow) and even stayed at two of the same sites! I go back for a 6-day solo in 2 weeks and your video has got me really excited
Hello John, thanks for watching! That trip, we entered at Mudro (#23) and traveled through Tin Can Mike, Horse Lake, Horse River to the Basswoods Falls Area... then returned by the same route. In a previous trip, we started the same way but from Lower Basswood Falls, we continued north to Crooked and returned via Friday Bay, Papoose, Niki, Gun, Fourtown. Water levels on the Horse River can be low in some years, especially in the fall, so you might want to inquire at an outfitter or Ranger station before leaving.
very beautiful. how did you plan your trip? i would like to go there, but have no idea how to plan my trip. where to start? where to camp, where to rent canoes
Thanks for watching and commenting! There are many very good outfitters in Ely that would be glad to help you with planning a trip... also many good outfitters along the Gunflint Trail if you take a trip in the eastern part of the Boundary Waters. These outfitter have websites, so you can learn a lot by visiting those. In addition, you can pick up some good advice from the canoeing message board at bwca.com... lots of knowledgeable folks there too. Best of luck to you on planning a trip!
Please do not stop making your videos. I love them. The use of music instead of a running commentary is great. Always great photography too!
Thanks for watching and the feedback Michael! God willing, I'll have my next trip and slide show complete in a month or so :-)

The photos of the Eagle snaring the Fish remains were terrific.

Nice. I was there in 2013. Hoping to be there again in 2015. What a fantastic place. The video was well done.
Thanks Robert - I have already had my maps out dreaming of a 2015 trip too!
Thanks for this video. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is a special place.
Thank you! My headache just went away. Can't wait for Canoe season already!

What campsite number is around the 5 to 6 minute marks? Looks awesome
Andy, that is the site just below Lower Basswood Falls. Some refer to it as #2205
