一个多小时 = "more than an hour"
I find that using 多 to indicate "more than" can be quite tricky.
It usually appears after two characters.
So, in the above example, the noun 小时 appears after 多.
However, "more than one year" is 一年多.
Here, the noun 年 appears before 多.
