    It wouldn't be so bad if the seasonal characters were "optional", not mandatory for players to be involved in. They need to make it flexible for players to have a comfortable selection. ✨✨

    • @murphykitty44

      exactly. i wanted new seasonal characters for the reasons roguegold mentions toward the end. optional seems like the obvious solution.

    • @RogueGold
      @RogueGold  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      @TheTiltblazin My thought as to why having it be optional wouldn't work is that that would divide matchmaking pools and the playerbase too greatly. If people are split 50/50 between the Seasonal and Main realms, then it could become much harder to find consistent groups for PVP or higher-end PVE content

    • @devinthierault
      @devinthierault 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Well artifacts in Destiny have shown us that it can give variety. I would like a new gear piece called "Classified" which is a new isac brick that connects all networks. It would be levelled up every season increasing damage and armor. But also the ability to have mods placed inside it, plus one exotic talent that is different each season.

    • @AZ-dj1ni

    • @grumpyoldman6503
      @grumpyoldman6503 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @RogueGold that was always going to be the case that matching would suffer.
      Don't you remember the rebuttals that "our mains aren't being taken away" (and you don't lose your stuff) and we could always go back and do whatever on them (divorced from the seasonal pool and segegrated away), vs just wait until the very end of the long season to do anything relevant with the new gear.
      This little bit of gaslighting was technically correct but missed the forrest for the trees.
      "You can pick any color you want, as long as it's black!" 🙄
      That was always the issue with seasons, mandatory or otherwise.

      Yeah. The community took a quick win to get what they want right now while screwing themselves and the game in the long term. Too many people put their immediate wants over the long term health of the game.
      It's the same people who complained about seasonal wipes who will be complaining how short content is because of power housing their way through the manhunt missions.
      Seasons 2.0 has been in development for over two years and the community should've put some trust into the dev team with these re-works. Now we actually have nothing to look forward to with the game. Just the same old seasonal content we have be plowing through the past 4 years.

    Probably a good idea. Telling your player base that their six-year-old character is useless 80% of the time from now on, probably not the best thing to do. NAU seasonal characters? No man’s sky did something like that. What they did was every season or couple of months they had a special activity. It was usually about, oh, anywhere from 3 to 6 hours. Maybe more. You started as a brand new character and you ran this whole story mission. At the end you got new gear, a new ship, all kinds of great stuff and it immediately transfers to your main character. And you just had a fun time doing something completely different. Then you go back to your main character with all the cool swag

    I'm glad they decided not to do the seasonal characters, but I will admit, I was ready to give it a shot. Only because whenever I start a new character in WONY for SHD, I have tons of fun. I don't have to worry much about builds or what guns to use, I just run and gun having fun. The whole experience reminds me of when I first played div2 and why I even like this game so much.

    The open topic is whether the upcoming seasons contain any new playable content. I’m with you, Rogue. It worries me. The seasonal characters were, for good or ill, part of a vision for the game. I hope they can adjust the method without losing the vision. A game that’s too beholden to “the crowd” loses vision and becomes static and stagnant. I think Div2 could really benefit from a shake-up. Hopefully they can still achieve it without giving players the feeling that their time spent with their mains has lost value.

  • @cptsoap579
    @cptsoap579 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    From what I've gathered from community feedback, it seems that many people don't fully understand how the new Season 2.0 works. A lot of the opposition is based on the misconception that they won't be able to use their main character, which isn't true. A clear presentation or a Public Test Server (PTS) from the development team would help clarify how everything functions, allowing the community to make a more informed decision.
    Personally, I would be excited to try it out. If it didn't suit my taste, I could still enjoy the manhunt for a few hours each week and then roam around DC with my main character. This would definitely be better than having no new content until the 2025 DLC.
    I believe making the seasonal character optional would be a wiser decision. It would ensure that the developers' hard work and passion aren't wasted while giving players the flexibility to choose how they want to experience the game.

    • @savagemacke
      @savagemacke 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree with what you stated.
      I didn't see a single clear presentation on 2.0 and it would have benefited most of the players.
      I, too, was looking forward to seasonal characters. I mean, it was something different and interesting to see our skill vs. builds during game play.
      At any rate, we will see what comes.

    I just really want the devs to implement a way to play/replay previous seasons. Allowing newer players who didn’t get the chance to experience those seasons, to then have the opportunity to play them.
    It would be an aspect I would like to see, but not the main point of Seasons 2.0. Just something they add with it for quality of life.

    100% Happy they are doing this however I do see how someone of late game status like yourself were excited for this, but I will still die on my hill on the fact that this was to late for them to do. Maybe Div 3 could implement this but when a game as certain set in stone style and then suddenly makes a change that though they claim is not mandatory but actually is, thats where you lose me. They claimed that the new seasons needed this seasonal character to experience it from the get go, or wait for the last 2 weeks to burn through the content with your main. Im sorry but that is no where near enough time for players who dont have alot of time to game. Starting over even with a boost is not appealing for those who work late and only get a short time to game.
    What they should have done is make it optional for the players. Provide incentive for them to do the seasonal character. Like if you run the season with a seasonal agent you get better drop chances, better stat rolls, and an exotic drop that only drops at first for seasonal agents. Then later this exotic drops for everyone to get. This way those who try the seasonal agents are rewarded for doing so allowing them to get better loot and an exotic only they have access till the time gate drops. "But they are using a new exotic that is op" Then go make a seasonal agent and get it.
    Those who do not wish to make a seasonal agent still get to experience the new seasons full experience and get normal loot drops. Once the time gate lifts the exotic drops for everyone. I feel like this would have been the best outcome for everyone however if they just remove it I'm happy. I been bouncing around between games and I love division but it was not making me wanting to play if i had to force a new agent to play the new season. I would have waiting till the last 2 weeks and played then, which was not ideal for enjoying the game but that would have been my plan.

    Great idea to implement in the neXt game. Currently I agree with not using the seasonal character system it's current state. As Year 6 is in full swimg with 6 years invested in a main character it does seem like the right direction to go in... too late to reinvent in a semi restart of a new character. Hoping the Devs have the opportunity/chance at rethinking other alternatives or make adjustments going forward that are less extreme toward the main character experience. Rethink, retool, and rework DPS Vs Survivability in some other ways. Maybe in vein of prestiging a max level character and restarting with the full access but all the weapons/gear/skills have to be unlocked in a different way that is not just level or mode driven. If the idea of a seasonal character could be use in this way would reinvigorate a soft restart without fully investing in a different character. Make it mandatory level 01 - 30 as expected to learn all game elements and modes will need to be completed and a small certain percentage of named weapons/gear/skills wiill be available once level 30 is reached. Followed by DLC content like Warlords of New York has it's own specialty products/skills as you progress but no named until the agent watch is completed to unlock. Since WoNY the I have been staring at the layout on agent watch. When looking at it looks like a second level to all perks can be speced becuase only half the bar space is used. This could continuing with level 30 - 40 is a mandatory seasonal evemts and modes to revisit for named products and remaining skills to unlock through progression for everything going forward. Making all enemies AI tougher more Tactical depending on organization tree and location. Hope this makes since.

I read the part about progress and re-evaluating to mean they would do Seasonal Characters but relook at how progress in the game (i.e. new loot, etc) was locked or tied to it. In other words, see if a person could not do a Seasonal character but still get loot, etc via their main character.
    Your video has made me wonder if I misread it or not. I do look forward to more from the Devs. Either way I am glad they released this. Hopefully it helps. Thanks again.

      It's certainly worth waiting until we get those further details to confirm, but the way I read it is that when they say "with the goal of progressing without them," that means progressing through development without them, meaning removing them.

    Still hoping for a bigger storage... Like 700 items instead of the tiny 300 items.
    There's alot of gear/weapons in the game we have all collected for our builds and there's been no improvement made for the storage system of them.
    That's my biggest issue with the game at this time.

      Well, it's has to be mediocre or the playerbase will start complaining about even more power creep, and if Massive fixes that, then the playerbase will complain about being nerfed and how all that time was wasted grinding for now nerfed gear.

    • @RogueGold
      @RogueGold  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @SpiNinGRecOrds I mostly disagree, though of course interesting and worthwhile loot is always a factor.
      I think it largely comes down to the loot system that we have in the game, as well as how new items are implemented into the game. Under Gear 2.0, it's *very* easy to get a copy of the majority of gear, with the rolls you want. Easier than any previous gear system in the franchise. And then once you have that roll, there's no incentive to farm a better version, since you can optimize the rolls anyway.
      Additionally, new items aren't placed behind any kind of interesting or longer-term objectives. They're on the Season Pass- which can be completed in a handful of hours, but they're also immediately placed into the General Loot Pool, meaning you can jump into Countdown and earn several copies of the new Gear/Brand set in under an hour.
      I don't realistically think that those two things will be solved anytime soon, and so the idea of re-rolling progression each Season at least meant that the climb to build up an arsenal for PVP, and higher-end PVE content, would last for the majority of a Season's duration.

    • @SpiNinGRecOrds
      @SpiNinGRecOrds 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RogueGold The problem with resetting people every season would mean that every bit of effort put in would be invalidated as soon as the next season goes live, so at most, you'll take a month to get an optimal loadout you're happy with and the rest you do whatever.
      If the system was put in place at the beginning or over a long period of time, maybe it would work, but right now with some people putting in thouhsands of hours into one character, maxing out their builds, its not a good change.
      I do agree that the loot being available in the battle pass is dumb, instead i'd prefer to have more skins or cosmetics, when was the last time we got a good emote?
      But still, even if they would fix that issue by taking the sets out and making them earnable via specific seasonal vendors where you'd earn rep by doing bounties or activities much like projects, it would still not fix the mediocrity of the loot being added...

    They should still do it but integrate heartland since that's no longer in the works. So the "seasonal character" is located in silver creek and is a seasoned veteran sent to stop keener's crew member Hopkins from stealing valuable information they were looking for. Based on the new coms (#57) we know keeners associates were successful which means we weren't able to get there in time cause Hopkins says the base was empty, but the seasonal character was able to dig a little deeper into what happened to the four dead division agents. He also finds new skills and gear sets some of which aren't complete yet so he has to search around silver creek for these missing items and airlift them to our main characters in D.C. in hopes we can use them to get an edge against keener.

    Not that I'm defending the seasonal character approach, there were definitely undeniable problems with the idea given how things have proceeded over the years. However, I'm not sure people should be outright celebrating seeing this idea just be walked back fully, as very likely, changes to how they're developing progression going forward had seasonal characters in mind, and by just REMOVING that, there will now be ripple effect problems. As opposed to changing the idea, loosening the restrictions, giving players reason to make them but not tying them to story or lore unlocks. Make it into a different way to play, which this game desperately needs, rather than just removing it.
    The same thing happened to Destiny when they tried to sunset weapons as a band-aid because some were overpowered...well, they ended up UNsunsetting them, and the problem is still rampant, just with new toys. They vaulted four whole PAID campaigns partially due to "install size," yet regardless of seasons still being removed periodically, the more expansions they add is just adding more install size BACK as a problem.
    It's good that Massive listened to the negativity and took action, but...my point is, if seasonal character progression was something baked into the new seasonal approach, removing that per feedback seems like a great thing, but it will likely mean even longer before a new BETTER seasonal approach is reached. That's what I'm getting at.

      @@grumpyoldman6503 No no, I agree with you. I've said for years that Division is a better value than Destiny, for example, and the experiences are different enough. But watching how Division has been developed shows it's been chasing Destiny's model for a long time, without ever really forging their own path and doing things their way. The devs are busy trend chasing when they should be making Division/Division 2 unique offerings in the space. And the devs clearly don't quite know how to accomplish that.
      I think there's a timeline where seasonal characters could work in Division, but undeniably, the way they proposed is NOT the answer and, like you said, it shows how out of touch they are. Without a doubt.

    I think that the Descent mode is where the player can start fresh and get a sense of progression. Fingers crossed they can still create an interesting season w/o seasonal characters 😅

      Descent is in no way remotely reflective of a "fresh start".

    Wow, I almost feel bad now lol. I know at least some people were looking forward to the seasonal system. I definitely wasn't one of them. Aside from Rogue himself, I never saw anything but negative feedback about it, but I know others had to be out there. So, it sucks for them. Hopefully what the devs do in place of that is good.

    They could still follow the same theory just differently. Instead of forcing you to create a new character allow you to select an existing character that gets cloned per say, ramp down the watch points, levels or upgrades, lock your weapons, armor, stash away until you reach the end mission, then it opens your stash and weapons/armor and watch back to your levels to include all the perks you already own, from that point you now walking into the end mission with your loaded fully built character plus upgrades from seasonal content. This allows them to do cool and creative things with the seasonal content when your in the starting stage of your cloned character up until you reach the end mission. You can then restart the seasonal content with another character and buff that those as well. Seasonal content becomes a way to upgrade characters if you have 5 total existing characters you can theoretically upgrade them all by playing the seasonal content with each one. Lets say one season has boost to snipers you keep after completion of season, another has explosive, another has upgrades to skills, theoretically you can have these all on one character or play different characters you have and now you have characters build to have special traits that go beyond specializations making builds even more dynamic.

      Personally that sounds interesting to me- but I fear that forcing people to lose their progression/power instead of the previous pitch of having Seasonal Characters be optional (albeit having exclusive story content available to them) would garner an even harsher reaction and backlash lol

      @@RogueGold Their seasonal wipe model was perfect. We play on a seasonal character, but still have the opportunity to play on our mains later in the season. It's actually very disappointing they canned seasonal characters.

      You currently have everything you stated in game already in play. You cant use anything in the stash until you hit lv 40 anyhow. your watch doesnt unlock until you kill keener and you cant add points until you initiate Roy's cutscene. I will say this: give your character ONE of your preset loadouts for that season. and all the rest of the presets is disabled including being able to retrieve it from the stash. That will give you the ability to use it at lv 40 and the entire season.

    The coolest boss fight in the game right now is the marauder drone boss. I need more boss fights with giant mechs. Boss fight need to be epic, need to be monumental

    Wow...I want to start off by saying that I was not a fan of the new seasonal characters when they first announced it and my opinion still has not changed about it in the slightest...but my reaction to this news is the same as it was back then: why not just make it optional?? I just don't understand why this was always an "all or nothing" type decision.

    They need to incorporate Heartland into Division 2 if they wanna keep players around and also not let all that work go to waste!

    This is Terrible. This was gonna be such a refreshing Change. As someone who hasn't no lifed or only played one game for the past 6 years. I was so looking forward to this. Im SHD 800 and thus am in shitty tweener stage of the game. I hate that all they ever do is scale the enemies up in order deal with the minority of the player bases +25 weapon damage and armor levels from the expertise system. I feel like everyones gonna whine when they cant carry over there D2 Chad to D3 🙇
