Qin Haiyang is the dominant breaststroker on the planet right now.
Since July in the World Championships, through the Asian games in September, and culminating in all three legs of the World Cup series in October - he had 15 breaststroke wins in a row, in ALL 3 distances - the 50, 100, and 200.
He beat Peaty every time he raced against him (in Oct/World Cup), although Peaty did reach the podium in the 50 several times - BUT remember also that Peaty is trying to regain his previous top form, after completely stopping his swimming, from March/23 until October/23 - because of several issues.
Peaty has the world record in the 50 and 100 breast, and Haiyang in the 200.
The big question is - will Peaty regain his form to medal (Gold?) again in his 100 meter distance, in Paris, at the '24 Summer Olympics?
There is no 50 meter Olympic breaststroke event.
Right now Qin seems unbeatable, but stay tuned!

Yeah, I expect that Paris will be very close and have a feeling it won't be Peaty on the top spot. They won't trouble the WR, but I will not be at all surprised to see Peaty beaten.

    Real answer..?
Both are good and there is no real better one. You are comparing a sprinter to a distance swimmer. Even though they do the same strokes, it’s like comparing apples and oranges.
Opinion: I think China will start getting better at swimming, now that they are more a developed country and have got some good American, Australian and British coaches to coach their athletes (I.e Qin HaiYang, Zhang YuFei. And once they are developed like most of Europe and America, they will definitely be in the top leagues. Impressive how they’ve came so far so quickly.

Less strokes and more strokes almost have the same result. Less strokes reserve energy better. More strokes mean the stroke need less time to complete. Less strokes mean the stroke need more time to complete. This is the difference, different thinking different technique. The one who rises up faster, closer to the surface will glide faster and longer. It is not that hard to figure out, just need a little physis. Sooner or later, everyone will know why. It will be the new technique for swimming in the future

I believe if Leon Marchand had swum the 200 Breast at worlds he would have beaten Qin and broken the WR. He went a 2:06 earlier in the year at FR Nationals, and split it almost exactly the same as Qin, only coming home in a 32.89 instead of a 32.12. We saw that he was able to drop a considerable amount of time in the 400 IM, 200 Fly, and 200 IM between FR Nationals and worlds, so I can only imagine what he would have pulled off in the 200 Breast. Dude could have probably gone 2:04 and I wouldn't be surprised.

The hype around marchand is just ridiculous. There's no chance he would have beaten qin in this event, period. First of all, if he could have broken the world record, why the hell would he not have swum it? Also, the guy got destroyed by qin on the breaststroke leg in the mens medley. He went a 59 on a relay split, he's not going under 2:05.4

    • @hudsonbakke8836
      @hudsonbakke8836 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@georgefu7035 As is clearly demonstrated in the video, having a slower 100 breast doesn't necessarily mean you'll have a slower 200 breast... you also do need to consider the 400 Medley Relay was on the last day of the meet, and Marchand had a more grueling schedule than Haiyang. Look at how Marchand split his 200 Breast at FR Nationals. He basically split it exactly the same as Haiyang, with the only significant difference being in the first and last 50's, which added up to making his time a second slower. Anyone who's ever been a competitive swimmer before knows that the second half of your races improves with rest and taper, and seeing as he dropped a huge amount of time in all his other events between FR Nationals and Worlds, especially in the 3rd and 4th 50's of his 200's, there is no doubt in my mind he would have gone way faster in the 200 Breast. 2:05 would be certain; 2:04 wouldn't have surprised me.
Further to my point about splits, here are Haiyang and Marchand's respective 200 Breast splits:
      Haiyang: 28.53 | 32.19 | 32.64 | 32.12
      Marchand: 28.89 | 32.13 | 32.68 | 32.89
      Difference (Haiyang - Marchand): -0.36 | +0.06 | -0.04 | -0.77
And here's how Marchand split the 200 Fly at FR Nationals and Worlds, respectively:
      FR Nats: 26.07 | 29.04 | 29.87 | 30.81
      Worlds: 25.43 | 28.17 | 29.56 | 29.28
Now the caveat is that he may have been holding back in most of his races at FR Nationals. Most swimmers at that level if they know they will make their country's worlds team anyways don't necessarily put all of their effort into their events at Nationals. I kind of doubt he would have held back in the 200 Fly while putting it all into the 200 Breast, unless he already knew he wasn't going to swim the 200 Breast at worlds, which he seemingly didn't because he was scheduled to until he made the decision to drop it. Still, it's possible that his 200 Breast at FR Nationals was his best effort while his 200 Fly was held back. Even if this was the case, however, there is still the effect of rest and taper to consider. Again, anyone who's been a competitive swimmer knows the effects of rest and taper, especially on the back half of your races. FR Nationals were in the middle of June, while Worlds were at the end of July. Marchand, being an elite swimmer who had no problem making the French Worlds either way, was almost certainly fully tapered and rested for Worlds, and not for FR Nationals.
As for why he didn't swim it, because the 200 Breast semifinal would have been 10 minutes after his 200 IM final. He was actually scheduled to swim the 200 Breast, but decided not to swim it and focus on his 200 IM (which is also one of his best races; he got within 1 second of the world record by Ryan Lochte, now being the 4th fastest of all time, behind Lochte, Phelps, and Wang Shun). There are various reasons he could have chosen the 200 IM over the 200 Breast for his focus. The 200 Breast final was on the same day as the 800 Free Relay final, which he likely wanted to stay fresh for (and, might I add, he outsplit MOST of the swimmers in the top 3 teams, despite France getting 4th overall. And Freestyle is his WORST stroke). Like I said, the 200 IM is also one of his best events, and he may have been going for the world record, which he got chillingly close to. He also may have chosen the 200 IM because, compared to the 200 Breast, it was a much more open field. Marchand finished 1.13 seconds ahead of 2nd place in the 200 IM. In the 200 Breast, he would have had to contend with Qin Haiyang, which while I've already said I think he would beat Qin, he may have wanted to go with what seemed like an easier and safer victory. Seeing as he had already won the 400 IM earlier in the meet and broken the world record, a Michael Phelps world record no less, I can easily see him thinking he had a shot at Lochte's world record in the 200 IM. At any rate, this is just my take. I think he definitely could have gone 2:05 low or 2:04, had he swum the 200 Breast. I'm incredibly excited to see what he does this year in NCAAs and in Paris. Michael Phelps himself said he thinks Marchand is capable of going under 4:00 in the 400 IM, and that's only one of the many races he's dominant in.
