What a gorgeous day for a train ride. Great scenery, a fast train, and beautiful small towns I am looking forward to parts 2 and 3 of this trip. Thanks for showing me a part of the world that my eyes will never see in reality.
Excellent work. The part of the track between Zagreb and Karlovac will be reconstructed by 2025, which will also include adding of the 2nd parallel track and rehabilitation of all stations and stops along the way. Some stations will be converted into stops. Construction works are due to start this Thursday.
@@ymeshulin Unfortunatelly, there was a major decrease in proper maintenance of railway infrastructure in Croatia, roughly in the period between country's independence and early 2010's. The governments were more focusing on building of highway network. Happily, some major railway infrastructure recovering started to occur, but until 2030, travelling by train on inter city level in Croatia will still be highly unpopular due to slow speed ot trains.
@@ymeshulin With modernization of Zagreb-Karlovac (double-track and 160km/h) and pretty likely completely new Karlovac-Oštarije section this first part would be cut probably in half. With finally completing the signalling works on Oštarije-Knin-Split section speeds there will go over 100km/h (signalling limit, many segments are capable of 120km/h and even up to 160km/h). This should bring ZG-ST journey to cca 4,5 hours which with (these) tilting trains, which would be comparable to journey by car (4 hours by car or 5 by bus on highway). Regarding investments - Rijeka is the main port so most investments will go into connecting Rijeka with brand new line, this area is very sparsely populated and Split isn't big enough to justify investments into high(er)-speed line. But if we get to 4,5 hours for tilting train and about 6 hours for normal (night trains) this would be a major improvement.

Potentially the whole line, that is. Zagreb-Oštarije will be modernized as is, but beyond that, they still haven't decided whether to modernize the existing mountainous railway or would be it more feasible in the long run to build a new, much shorter one with lots of tunnels and bridges (Oštarije-Drežnica-Bribir-Škrljevo). Cost of modernization is quite big so you never know. It would be quite something if they went for the latter option as Drežnica, a village in the literal nowhere, would suddenly become an important railway junction with an extension for Split likely getting added later on as well..

I see stations along the route do still have the 3kV electrical grid infrastructure, and in between is 25kV infrastructure available. If there is only 25kV electricity available, I wonder, how the old 3kV insulators cope with 25kV?
The "umbrella" (kišobran) style catenary towers have remained on many stations between Zagreb and Rijeka but new 25kV insulators have been installed at the base of the horizontal bars (zoom in and You can clearly see them). This way they didn't have to replace catenary towers while re-working them to 25kV (also removal of second wire reduced the weuight). This has been working like this for 30+ years, this section (from Zagreb to Oštarije) has been re-electrified to 25kV since 1980s.
