    • @russellhamner4898
      @russellhamner4898 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are taught to think like cops now. They just bribe drug addicted informants to put them up on game and go do police work. They just don't think like criminals anymore. Back when the DEA was called the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, they specifically recruited people from certain neighborhoods who admit doing dirt as kids just not getting caught or only getting caught joyriding cars or shoplifting. They wanted people who could think like criminals, but now they want to be squeaky clean.

      Want to add something it also appears this applies to the DA offices as well. Cant build a convict quality case for their life and in the big cities they depend far to much on Rico. Just because some cats hang together don’t means you should be a ale to use Rico. A law that was meant for real organizational crime like the mob and cartels.

      The Wire was nearly cancelled so many times and always under appreciated, it’s only fitting that Wire content creators don’t get recognized outside of the fan base, the show demands attention and analysis, and sadly most of our fellow brothers and sisters just aren’t capable of the effort the Wire demands of its audience

    The Wires explanation of the entire system from the highest level down to the dope fiend on the street was crazy. How someone who is seen as the lowest of society can effect the city as a whole really opened my eyes to society and how many cities operate as a whole.

    Being originally from Bmore, The Wire always resonated with me. So I will say your analysis on the city are unrivaled in these YT streets. Now this was a super dope episode because you touched on the police and political elements of the show heavy. In my humble opinion you are right. Les and Mac are like 2 sides of the same coin. But I would choose Lester Freeman over McNulty because Mac’s impulsiveness and obsession over a case could either get somebody fired or killed. I see Lester can be obsessive(anyone who creates those little doll houses and furniture has to have that personality trait), but he’s way more calculated. BPD wouldn’t have cracked that code Marlo and “The Greek” had if it wasn’t for Lester and before then they wouldn’t have found those bodies in the vacants if it wasn’t for him.

  • @MrEvans96
    @MrEvans96 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

    I remember a post you made months ago asking which characters should you do and I suggested Mcnulty and someone else suggested Lester. Its cool you actually got around to doing it. I think one big takeway I took from The Wire is the disconnect the politicians, attourneys, and higher ups in the police department have towards crime. A major example of this is the 13 bodies found in the freight container in season 2. Thoroughout the season they were not seen as humans with familes and friends but as numbers that no unit really wanted to deal with. They were treated like a nuisance that you ignore until it goes away. This allowed me to connect with McNulty and Lester throughout the entirety of the show. Although their methods are questionable at times they seemed to be amongst the very few who actually still had some type of connection to the streets, even if their motivations were questionable. I will say I think the mentality of the higher political players may be due to them being desensitized to the crime. If you see the same thing day in and day out for years eventually your ambition shifts from bettering the city to seeing how you can benefit yourself. Great content.

    I spent my life in the Monumental City learning the history of this place..... they are local Crusaders of the Jesuit Order. I lived my life like McNulty. I worked in the cemetery business, so I worked where Freddie Gray was buried and served the FAKE funeral for Sean Suiter that was planned for sympathy of the police department.
    HBO aired my life story in "We own this city" from an elementary school bully to the funeral that banned me from the entire industry. I am just a Know-Nothing who studied life, instead of following the Rockefeller Funded Operation.
    GREAT video!!! The story is documented all over town - that is why "O' say can you see" was written locally and given to the nation that blindly follows

    I gotta revisit this one: Your analysis of McNulty's interrogation tactics, where he's more curious than threatening, that's actually a highly effective way to interrogate folk by way of U.S. Army interrogator logic (which may be slightly different than cop logic).
    If you are genuinely intellectually curious in asking interrogation questions, you will net critical thinking questions that will make the person think freely. And if they think freely, they may answer questions freely too.
    McNulty never pretended to be anyone's friend; he just respected people where they were, as they are, and that's something a LOT of cops don't have, including the smarter ones like detectives.
    In Iraq or Afghanistan in the war on terror era, the analysts who respected the enemy were always better, more effective, than those who didn't.
    There's this respect McNulty has for folk in the game. That's why Bodie opened up. You think Bodie would have opened up to snitch on Marlo had it been Detective Herc? Hell naw.

    @10:50 Carcetti isn't why the police were out doing these "quality of life" arrests. It was because of Burrell. Remember when Burrell had that heart to heart with Clay Davis after Burrell became fearful that Carcetti was going to ax him? Burrell knows that Carcetti is trying to run the police department through Burrell's deputy, Rawls. So Burrell orders these mass arrests as a way to fight back against Carcetti's authority.

    Fantastic breakdown.
    Royce, who according to Delegate Watkins, "forgot his roots" by debating to cover up Hamsterdam...came full circle with Carcetti forgetting his roots by covering up the vacant murders.
    "It's all eating shit."
    Also, Carcetti DID run for president...O'Malley in 2016.
    PLEASE KEEP UP THESE BREAKDOWNS. All are incredible.
    Clay Davis, Carcetti, Daniels, and Rawls are my requests...but no matter who you break down, it's going to be dope AF.

    You the 🐐 of this shit you need to drop every week…sidenote I wish they continued it & had a season 6 it was still so much to explore maybe with the focus on the prison system & the politics with that come along with it the inequality of length of sentences & how it’s a business scheme

    of all these cops, bunk and mcnulty have ultimate heart, but lester freamon is a different breed. hes a very in-tune guy. smarter and quicker than the average guy, and even beyond above average.

    You could tell Lester and McNulty were two sides of the same coin when they ended up working together and essentially having the same fate in season 5

    You got me rewatching the wire with a new eye and I thank you for that. What I find interesting is how you keep a cop like Lester around a city with this many layers and not become a fed? His suggestion to take it federal showed how smart he was.

    Lester and McNulty are like a Hunter and his Dog.
    A Hunter can track it's prey but it takes longer to get to them, a Dog can get to his target but will have less of a sense of direction, by themselves either gets to eat but together? They feast.

    Once again you’re knocking it out the park! I commented on one of your videos a while back asking about a Maurice Levy video as I’m currently in law school and you killed that one as well. My brother is a police officer in Fairfax, VA and based on his stories, your analysis is spot f’n on. Like when you were talking about the way McNulty moves. I immediately thought about when he acknowledged Bodies street smarts when Ronnie was interrogating him over the free zone. “This must be one of them contrapment things.” LOL!
    He then pulled up on Bodie while Carver and Coliccio were talking to him and once again told the “contrapment” story and acknowledged Bodies intelligence. “I loved it, Smart Kid.” Lastly he told Bodie that he would be rolling back through in 60 minutes and wanted the corner clean giving Bodie and his crew a little more time to make some coin and not pressing them up. It cost Bodie his life but just like you said McNulty had convinced him to snitch.
