@@sethjohnson5887 I left for that reason. I worked a job where my machine was expected to produce 190 parts an hour. I was able to do 210 an hour. Other workers would tell me dont do that, theyll raise your hourly number so i backed off. But that didnt matter. After 6 months and two pay raises, they brought in my replacement. And then another and then another. No one liked working at my station so that staved off being let go for another 8 months. I eventually got tired of the floor supervisor trying to find a 'reason' to grt rid of me and told him to f off one morning in front of everyone. The other workers where happy I spoke up to him as i walked out with a single finger salute. 😄

exactly .. and businesses don't pay employees enough to cover rent .. rent is what ? $2000 in Montana or Iowa (the middle of no where IF there is even housing available and not all airbnb) rent is $4000 a month in NYC .. entry level workers cannot afford rent and car payments AND car repairs while working thankless demeaning unsafe unregulated slave labor at an abusive workplace .. and insulated priviledged people both on the left and right say "no one wants to work" .. it is illegals that put up with abusive workplaces when they killed or subjected their bodies or children to rape to get to America.. hoping someday to make manager ... so they themselves can someday perpetuate the evil entry level employees are subjected to... I am all for capitalism yet there is exploitation of entry level workers that is unbearable ... the millions of mentally ill, drug addicted homeless is evidence of that.. If jobs were not so brutal and there was a place one could afford with something left over for quality of life Americans would be housed and working productively.

I had something similar happen. The nank i worked for did a job salary evaluation and found everyone in my department should be exempt, meaning no more OT. Our boss than called a meeting stating that now that we are exempt she expects us to work at least 50 hrs a week and wanted timesheets detailing our work for each day of the week.
We were in yhe middle of a major re-release of our customer facing website and the interaction of Quickin and MS Money. Since i was the ONLY one with experience with these PFMs, i was tasked with yhe development of ALL training documents for the call centers as well as working with these companies during the refit let alone be at yhe call centers for the release that took a month.
After it was all done, i reached out to HR and explained what was happening. Our boss was demoted and everyone was to supply those timesheets to HR. We were paid for that time and for the 1.5 years of all my time doubled my yearly salary plus a bonus.
I ended up running the department the following year when they fired her. Took time to document everything on her so they wouldn't have to pay her anything when she was shown the door. Was one of the greatest days of my life watching her leaving to never return. The next best day was the recovered funds showing up as a direct deposit 🎉🎉🎉
If something doesn't feel right, ask questions. But don't ask those questions at work. Seek outside advice, get everything documented before speaking up to the HR Department, ONLY!!!

In the United States there are specific standards that must be met for docking pay. One of those standards is that it cannot be docked below minimum wage.
You can only dock salaried workers for very specific reasons, unionized workers are almost always protected from it, and even ununionized hourly workers can sue a company for a number of bad practices around docking pay.
In this case, they’re dancing with the edge of legal liability. Especially if the worker is barely above minimum wage as is.

They most pivotal role to any company is the CFO and and employee who gets their pay docked under any circumstances would be able to see this. The cfo answers to one person and that’s the CEO. Again, this is 100% on top executive management for cultivating a company culture that would enable this type of behavior.

If you wonder why productivity is low and you have high turnover, start looking at your management. It's 90% of the reason a company suffers. Bad management, bad results. Its not hard to math that equation. I have seen it over my 26 years of consulting. When i am brought it to review a companies performance, I always start at the top line and work backwards, not the other way around. Its like doing Lean Six on management. I was a supervisor for a few years managing an unloading team of 3 guys. Had to show them a 21 year old guy was worthy of their respect. My team was a trio of about 45 years old men. My job as supervisor was to SIT ON A CHAIR AND WATCH "supervise" them. I had meetings 30 mins- 1 hour before their shift started. I'd come in with my poll, dress pants dress shoes etc. After the meeting I'd jog to my car and changed into my gym shorts, boots and t shirt. And I'd grab my order/receiver sheets and clip board. I'd grab my chair and leave it by the bay door with my clipboard. I'd be in the truck unloading with the guys. We had a rotation routine. It was awesome. My 3 month quarterly bonus we'd share it. I'd have the reloadable card and use for pizzas, Gatorade. Sodas, chips etc. They earned us that bonus for me. It's not right I got to keep it. Plus it was more on the card vs a check. Check would've been like 200 bucks while the card was 400. If still use it for groceries some times. Or if my guys needed some groceries I'd go get em that night or fo with em after work and fill a cart.

@squidwardtentacles2736 it sucked cuz those guys would heaven and earth for me. I had to earn their respect Tho. I got promoted simply because I was bilingual. I'm mexican but born in the US. My guys were mexican immigrants 20 years older than me. They didn't take kindly to me. But i earned their respect and they earned mine. Then it was perfect. Which is why I was dumb founded when I asked my boss where my guys bonuses were when he gave me mine. He looked at me puzzled. Lole trying to figure out what I was saying. He said only supervisors get bonuses cuz they lead the teams to be successful. I wasn't agreeing and asked if I could share it. He said sure with a confused tone. Shrugged it off. He then asked me the 2nd time if I did share it. I said he'll yeah I did. He then told me I had 2 options. Check or card, I was confused then. I said what's the difference. He said the card he would add more if I really was sharing it. I told em to ask the guys himself. He believed me and started with just 250. We worked our way to 400 bucks eventually. I'd buy Gatorade, sodas, coconut waters etc. Eat ever they asked. Had to buy a nice big cooler from Costco. My boss saw how I would lug that cooler everyday. Asked for a drink everyday, said, help yourself you paid for it. Eventually he hated walking down the bays looking for it. So he put one lf those refrigerators you see in the supermarkets that holds drinks as you pay. And I didn't need that cooler no more. Sold it to a driver for 50 bucks and a pack of menthols (I used to smoke here and there). But once other guys who weren't on my teams started stealing our drinks. I was pissed. They took my boss last mt. Dew and he banned the other teams from going through it. He out a lock on it and ga e me the spare and told every super next meeting only him and his upper level folk and me Andy guys had access to that since he gave it to us. Other guys got thkse fancy water dispensers that gave cold water. I got him to buy some big fans eventually too. But they ended taking em to a family party one summer and they. Years ago, my car was hit the first day of work. I delayed fixing it, but eventually I had to carpool while it was being repaired. My boss knew this and docked me every day when I was late. She was my ride. She'd stop and eat breakfast at Grandy's or arrive late. Then, she would call me the office and say, You're late again. I'm gonna dock your pay. Try not to do it again. SMH🤷🏽‍♀️ I hated working for this tyrannical woman. She was a pain in my side. Then, when I left she wouldn't give me an exit interview, so I could get my benefits. She went shopping and had a spa day (hair, nails, the works). So, I called her boss, our regional supervisor, directly who was in a meeting at the time. But, I explained her assistant the situation. She was delaying, so that I used up my personal leave. And, that she had rescheduled over and over again. Well, let's just say things did not end favorably for her. I work at a Walmart distribution center and it’s ver similar to this. 1st it Important to note, this is a 3 billion dollar 1.5 million sq ft facility. We get two paid 15 minute breaks and one unpaid 30 minute lunch break. I work 10-12 hour shifts driving a truck and stacking pallets with products that need to get sent to stores. All of our 15 minute breaks start as soon as you read off and “pick” a product to be loaded onto the pallet. From that point, you have 15 minutes to walk all the way across the massive warehouse, “take your break”, walk all the way back, restart your equipment, and be all the way taking your next “pick” before that time is over. Basically your break is spent walking and parking your equipment.
Not only that, but rather than being able to “call out” etc. we’re on a “points system”. Which means regardless of your reasoning, etc. you get a “point” for calling out or not coming in, etc. you get 5 points on a rolling 6 month basis and a call out is equal to 1 point. If you’re over 6 minutes late, in 15 minute increments, that time is either deducted from your ppto or pto(which you don’t begin receiving for 6 months), or you receive .5 points. You also have to be at your work area(which is whatever area you are assigned to in the warehouse, so usually you have to walk about 10-15 minutes before your shift “starts”, plus running to grab equipment from your locker etc. I’m in the cooler side which is a three story area on the opposite end of the entrance, 4 flights of stairs per floor, so if I’m on the 3rd floor for that day, I’m climbing 8 flights of stairs to get there, plus that during breaks.
We are also “incentivized” on a percentage basis for how fast we load pallets, if you don’t finish in the times that they’ve determined is an acceptable amount of time it should take to load that pallet, it’s possible termination. Usually a 70 cube(or 7ft tall pallet can be determined to take 30-45 minutes). If you go above, up to 50%, you get 50% more money per hour. However you do not receive “incentive” on any “down time”, so any time you’re not loading pallets, whether that’s going to the bathroom, taking your equipment to the maintenance dock, etc.
We also have a sliding scale of “errors”, so any time you make a mistake, you automatically loose incentive for that week. Errors are stacked and also on a 6 month rolling fall off period. If you receive 4 errors, that becomes a “step” which is an extra 6 months added to the rollover period. From then, the next “step” is 2 more “errors”, and so on. An error can be something as simple as improper package orientation, not achieving performance standards, etc.
They also monitor every single thing we do on cameras everywhere to do performance evaluations etc. Our bags are checked only when we’re leaving to make sure we didn’t take anything(we work in a grocery based warehouse), yet never when we come in.
They also are constantly saying “safety is always our #1 priority” yet “high incentive” earners are consistently overlooked for cutting corners. “Your not supposed to do this, but there’s no way to earn a 150% without doing it, so you can and can’t do it”
The pay is pretty good and with “incentive” you can easily break $45 an hour depending on your area.

If you ever visit Sacramento they have a great train museum that has a lot of cool stuff on building the railroads out West and people quite literally shed blood and had full on battles with the Gov and private industry for workers to have the rights they do today. Like not even joking gun battles with the national guard over strikes.

Makes me remember my first full time job after high school, in a factory. If you were more than 4 minutes late, you were docked for 15 minutes.

"The fictitious explanation given for the accompanying camera crew is that the executives are being filmed as part of a documentary about entry-level workers in a particular industry, or a competition with another individual with the winner getting a job with the company." --Wikipedia

it's true people do work better when they feel they aren't being watched all the time... remember when you were a kid and you could shoot crazy basketball hoops but when your friends came over and tried to watch you f*** it all up?... same thing... people constantly watching and critiquing you could make some people do their worst

i can relate but the best feeling ever was when i was challenged in front of my crush and made 2 back to back half court shots. I wonder if it has to do with who is watching lol
