I found you guys when I caught your videos on the French Revolution, where were outstanding. Then I found this. Tom, I read your book Persian Fire and sourced it for a paper I wrote. Anyway, per Adrian Goldsworthy and others; there is some agreement that Cleopatra went with her father to Rome. If she was in Rome in 59 and staying at Pompey's villa, then likely she knew Julia. I have been trying to work on a book myself, that just take place in during the Alexandrian War, but presents Cleopatra differently than most books and stories in that her relationship with Julius Caesar grows over time, rather than this first night stuff of most stories. Anyway, love this channel now.
How in the world can you talk about her “ethnicity debate” without mentioning that North Africa is not sub-Saharan. People hailing from the African continent are not universally black and the assumption that they are is a modern skullduggery in the service of ideological dogma. This whole “debate” is ideologically driven nonsense.
Carry on Cleo. More historically accurate than Netflix.
Sid James was actually a contemporary of hers
Lyndsey Marshal in HBO's Rome is fantastic. I always picture her interpretation in my mind when discussing Cleopatra.
Dominic has mentioned assassins creed a couple of times now. Must be his favourite game. I thought he was more of a Mario fan

"The female of the species tends to be more deadly than the male" i see what you did there. Lol. Love going back and listening to these.
Ptolemy AULETES or the flute player - perhaps because he had a high pitched voice?
Aren't we glad that Netflix finally put an end to the debate over her ethnicity?! " facts? We don't need no stinking facts!"
You briefly touch on Egypt as the breadbasket of the Mediterranean, but fail to mention how critical it was to the Roman grain supply.

There's no "ideology" at work. Lighten up, white grievance warrior. Only a racist gets this emotional about race.
