Methodology
1) I gathered data from mywaifulist .moe/popular . The .csv files containing search interest values were downloaded from Google Trends for every waifu.
2) Ammount Search Tool determined the average monthly search volume for every anime.
3) The number of searches per month for each calendar year were proportioned based on official reports from Google.
4) Data modeling through an algorithm invented by me to obtain the most realistic data possible.
5) Search interest values and proportioned monthly search volumes were placed in Excel for calculations.
6) The data was placed into Flourish Studio to create the data visualization piece.

Sakura was certainly one of
the most popular female characters back in the day. I’m not talking 2010s. I’m taking early 2000s when the anime launched, fans didn’t know what to expect and she was quite the hype due to being on the same team as Naruto and Sasuke. Her first appearance/ character design was simple yet very attractive. However, this went down hill when Kishimoto decided to make her hair short and proceeded to not give her any growth. Viewers who had followed the series for a while started to notice no shift in her character development and that’s why they started to hate her. But no. Sakura was not hated during the first half of the Naruto anime series and this poll is very accurate.
I'm gonna have to disagree with that. Sakura at the start of the show was hated with a passion by fans. Because she was seen as a crybaby fangirl who didn't really do anything for the team and was more often then not seen as dead weight. In addition she was an asshole to Naruto at first too, which soured people's opinions of her. The change in opinion towards her happened when she cut her hair and seemed to have a genuine desire to change for the better. Of course, Kishimoto dropped the ball with her, and I'd argue every character outside Naruto, Sasuke, and MAYBE Kakashi and Shikamaru, but fans didn't know that at first.
In any case I think the reason she kept her popularity for so long was more a testament to Naruto and it's popularity and her being the main female character rather than Sakura herself actually being considered 'waifu' material by most people.

@@astyutechick7980 Alright since you asked for what’s different in the Manga let’s start with OG.
In the Zabuza Arc Sakura saved Naruto from a Shuriken. In the Anime however they removed that Scene and made Naruto save himself.
In the Manga, when Sakura “made fun of Naruto for being an orphan”, Sakura didn’t even mention that he has no parents, just that he doesn’t behave. It was Sasuke who told her he has none. Then , after Sasuke talked to sakura and left, Sakura, with a gentle smile, told herself to be nicer to Naruto she even blushed slightly.
In the Anime however, Sakura didn’t have a gentle smile but looked rather pissed and basically forced herself to say she will be nicer to Naruto.
The whole punching Naruto thing also isn’t in the Manga as there, she punched him around 12 times in total and that was when he was being a perv. 12 times in 700+ Chapters is nothing.
The several SasuSaku scenes that got changed. Sasuke blushed so many times around Sakura, that all got removed from the Anime tho.
When Sasuke wanted to kill Yamato, Sakura was just standing there in the Anime while in the Manga she wasn’t there.
When Neji got injured and Naruto called for a Medic, they showed Sakura in the Anime even tho Sakura WASNT there in the Manga.
Now, you say she had no moments? I tell you she had several.
In the Chunin Exams she protected the two unconscious Naruto and Sasuke with her LIFE from the Sound Ninjas. That is the same thing Hinata did when fighting Pain yet everyone praises her but makes fun of Sakura.
Sakura in the Chunin Exams was the only one who could get all the answers right without having to cheat. As pointed out she saved Naruto from the Shuriken. In that very same arc she gave a little kid food because it had none.
Her courage to train with Tsunade is very important as well because Tsunade and her trained EXTREMELY hard. It’s said that Tsunade would train with her until her bones would break, then just heal them and then they’d continue to train. Sakura is extremely hardworking.
In the Pain Arc, Sakura is often called useless when actually she was running the whole hospital by herself at only 16.
As u pointed out her fight with sasori was amazing but there’s another thing that is sasori related:
Her making an antidote against Sasoris poison, which took him years to make, in just a few hours.
She literally saved Kankuros life because of that.
In the War Arc, Sakura got her Byakugou at the age of just 17 and surpassed Tsunade.
Sakura was able to summon Katsuyu which takes HELLA lot of Chakra. Without Sakura, they couldn’t have gotten Sasuke back from the other dimension. If Sakura hadn’t punched Kaguya, she wouldn’t have been distracted and Naruto’s and sasukes attack wouldn’t have worked.
These aren’t even all moments just of what I could think of rn. People are forgetting that Sakura comes from no Clan and wasn’t born with any special abilities. Everything she earned, she earned with hard work.
I’d like to point out that the novels probably have the best moments so I recommend them

And Sasuke Fangirl mhh not exactly. Kishimoto’s intention with her was to make her realistic. She went from a boy crazy brat to a mature strong woman. She’s developed. She was ready to kill Sasuke after all. Furthermore, her goal never was to be with sasuke but to get strong and fight alongside her Team.
I think it would’ve been better if she had ended up with Naruto but this us just because of Kishimoto’s sexist views. He said that if Sakura’s feelings for Sasuke would change it would’ve made her a terrible woman, explains why the woman in Naruto genuinely are terribly written.
But all in all the Sakura hate isn’t justified because the reasons are just dumb and easily debunkable

She was also written wayyy better than 90% of women I've seen in shonen, she has her own goals too.. at the start. Oh i should mention I'm currently watching sao.. about halfway there so my points are limited upto that point. Anyway... The thing she's missing however.. completely missing is.. an "agency" which is simply a form of independency. I'll give you an example ig... Bishamonten from Noragami (manga) .. incredibly strong, like Asuna. What makes Bisha a great character tho? Her art of decision making, her having her own goals, her being super consistent throughout, her compassion not being annoying but beautiful. she was given complete "agency" as opposed to Asuna. After their marriage i can't help but feel... There has been zero development in her as a character. Again not surprising.. this is the case with 99% of the women .. their existence and charms fade away slowly.. this is my reason for hating her as a "character"
@@aynain1810 she had plenty of agency in Aincrad and she got strong due to her own flaws. Initially she was cold, but wanted to save everyone from Aincrad just as much as Kirito did. She went from isolation to compassionate due to the amount of time Kirito and Asuna spent solving the mystery and fighting on the frontlines until they established an unbreakable bond. You’ll see more agency from Asuna in the later seasons too, especially Alicization

this video is really interesting if you know some history like how rem exploded in popularity because of her speech but it also shows how some waifus may not be on top and dominate but have strong followings years after their shows aired like how yoko was still super relevant into the 2010s same for rias and most especially for asuka and rei who's aninme ended a decade after the list even starts and apart from the odd movie here and there ( not to downplay it but it doesn't compare to a show coming out weekly for months) askua really was in there for the long haul. its also interesting to note how some waifus take time to become popular like yuno gasai who peaked around 2016 despite the fact that her show ended in 2012 not to include the ovas. we can also see how massively popular waifus get around the 2010s as more and more anime fans come into the fandom, wafus improve in cuteness and sexiness and the culture around waifus grows as well as the fan art and doujins that help propagate the fantasy's that make them popular. I also want to note just how high the number get during covid and onward as lots of people finally gave anime a shot and liked it as well as the massive amounts of hype lots of shows get like every new iteration of attack on titian, demon slayer and chainsaw man which was already massivly popular before which explosed with the anime same for spy x family to a lesser degree which is carried in this poll becasue of Yor being so unique and popular with there being a slight trend toward older waifus in recent years like yor, time skip mikasa and the one meme about how anime moms are better versions of their main character daughters.

I watched Naruto anime since I was in kindergarden, now I'm in the fourth year of my college. Lemme tell you something that Sakura was a fvckin lovable character since her first appearance in Shippuden (2007). People at the time really love her development; from a weak whiny little girl (OG) into a badass fighter young lady (Shippuden). There was an official Naruto Databook released and viral on the internet about top 10 most favorite battles in Naruto, and Sakura vs Sasori was in the 3rd place after Sasuke vs Itachi and Gaara vs Deidara. I completely remember when I was in school, the whole class talked about how beautiful Sakura was with her hair tied up while healing Kankuro.
The only waifu were Sakura, Ino, and Temari. Sakura haters who mostly are Hinata fans were nothing, even if they exist, they were too afraid to bully Sakura coz Hinata was nothing compare to Sakura. Sakura haters who were increase after The Last Movie released in 2014, the movie tried so hard to buff Hinata to make her lookin better than Sakura. So believe it or not, Sakura was a lovable character and had so many fans before The Last Movie released.

ZeroTwo really is one of the charachters of all time. Alot of things can be said about people who have ZeroTwo profile pictures etc.
She wasn't a great character. The only reason she was topping the charts for a while, was because the show gained popularity on social media and that was the only show a lot of people were actually watching at the time. Much like how Sakura is not really great but topped the charts while Naruto was airing.
The quality waifus are actually just present most of the time, but not topping the chart most of the time. Most people don't watch "old" anime though, that's why they don't usually reach top tier for long.
But girls like Rei, Saber, Motoko, CC and some others are the real quality waifu material.
On top of that this statistic is based on google searches. So shows like Haruhi where the character name is in the title name are heavily biased in this statistic. Most people who watched Haruhi would agree her character is lackluster compared to the supporting characters in the show like Yuki, Kyon or Mikuru. Haruhi was topping the charts because people were actually searching for the show. The show was great, but not the main character, Haruhi. Also the series were aired out of order, which caused much discussion online. You also get the "endless-8" which spawned a lot of criticism and discussions online.

Estuve demasiado pendiente de lo vigente que se mantuvo nami en el top (salió como 5 veces nada mas IAJNSKS) que no me di cuenta que Kobegod consiguió un (merecido) tercer lugar.
