When are people going to finally recognize this film as a masterpiece?

Just watched it last night in my quest to watch all Coen brothers movies. I love their work, & even this one. But I gotta say aside from a few key scenes this one kinda bored me. But after it ended I’ll still say it was good. A Serious Man was the same way, good but kinda boring.

It’s too cynical for the common audience. Only film lovers will pay it proper credence

I think the Big Lebowski is a little better, but The Man who Wasn’t There is my runner-up for their best work!

He's getting shaved just like he did with his wife...and his last thought is about her, like in the car crash. A masterpiece...

This film is immaculate. Probably the Coen brothers' most underrated film.

This was one of the first R rated films my dad let me watch when I was young... took me 14 years to remember what it was called.

I wrote a fairly lengthy review of this film on Amazon, and as I do not wish to repeat myself I will only say this is one of my favorite overlooked films of all time. One particular aspect of my fondness relates directly to this scene, which I find myself thinking about more and more as the years roll past.

The piece playing in the background is the third movement of Beethoven’s Archduke Trio and it had always been my favourite piece. And it sets the mood here so bloody well

I like how he talks of regretting being a barber and hes getting cut by the death row barber. thats got to be one of the most morbid jobs

The ultimate release from pain, hardship, boredom, or anything else unpleasant, is death.

I always thought there wasn't a movie that faithfully represented Albert Camus The Stranger, but then I saw this movie.

A movie blooper only an electrician would recognize. The jailor had the knife switch in the on position which is against the national electrical code. To activate the switch it should be thrown in the down position, energizing the circuit.
