    Troy Germano, a great mentor and very nice guy!He taught me about the magic of timing long time ago, it helps my entire life of engineering. Lots of respect!

    "We hear the acoustics just as if we were there?" That is, I turn my head to the left and then suddenly the right side of the speaker is almost silent? In what world do acoustics or human hearing work this way? I had specially ordered the headtracker, but it now went back. The concept itself I find great but the rotating in space is implemented completely wrong.

    I worked for Troy Germano back in 1999 and 2000 at The Hit Factory in New York. And he fired me. Then he reversed his decision, let me stay, but a year later he fired me again. I don't care. This guy runs a god damn great studio. And that's coming from a former grunt assistant that he shit canned.
    I remember watching Troy bend down to pick up the tiniest little piece of lint on the floor. He couldn't see me. I just happened to see him do this. I remember thinking to myself... this is the kind of guy that will be successful anywhere. I was very impressed. Nobody was looking. His father, Ed, was in his office. So the only reason he did it was because he was for real, he was that caring and serious about having the world's best studio. I know I'm reading a bit much into a little incidental moment, but he was the son of the owner. Many people in that position, maybe most people, would be too big, too proud, too cool to pick up from the floor. But Troy worked very hard. And when I was there the place was booming. I mean they had 2 buildings, 10 studios, 100 employees, and that doesn't count all the assistant engineers... We were technically freelance workers. All that pressure, and he still managed to be friendly and pleasant to work for. Well, except when he told me, 'You're fired!". I didn't particularly care for that. But even doing that... he was fair and when I stated a counter argument... He listened and said... OK, OK, you can stay. And, a few weeks later he stopped me and said, "I'm sorry about firing you and I just wanted to say I am glad you're still here." That was nice of him to do.
    I remember being told to see Troy in his office. Uh, oh! That can't be good. I walk in. And he's like, 'Sit down'. I sit. He says in a very firm and serious manner.
    "Look, you got to do some soul searching. Because I'm sorry, but this just isn't working out. and we're going to have to let you go."
    I was blown over. Woa... What! I didn't see it coming at all. So, I then respectfully explained why I should not be fired. And Troy, respectfully listened. And he just says,
    'OK, fine, you can stay."
    That was it. I was totally shell-shocked. For a few days all I was thinking was WTF was that about. Who fires you and rehires you all in a minute. Did he have me confused with someone else? They had 10 GAs and 10 assistant engineers. But a few weeks later he came to me and said... I'm sorry I was going to fire you, and I'm really glad you're still here." I thought that took great character to do. He could've just pretended that never happened like 99% of bosses would do. He did that to make his employee feel better.
    The whole Germano family was nice to work for. My contact with them was obviously limited. They were firm and strict, but fair.
    I wasn't really 'fired'. The chief engineer at the time, Glen Marchese, called me to say,
    "Look... You're a great employee. But can you give me a reason why you're here?"
    "What do you mean, Glen?"
    I knew what Glen was getting at. Then he explained.
    "I had you cut from sessions for the last week to see if you'd call in and ask what's up. You didn't. Didn't you wonder why you haven't been on a session in a week?"
    "Yeah, Glen, why is that?"
    "Because I don't believe you want to be here. You seem totally uninterested in engineering. Do you really want this job? If you do, I'll tell Troy, and you can stay. But please ask yourself if you really want this job. Because many people would kill to have it. And if you're not even interested... "
    So I had to admit to myself Glen was spot on. I had lost interest. I had previously told Troy I never wanted to be an engineer professionally. I preferred the business aspect of the music industry. I was there to learn engineering up and down so I had that skill set. But I was never going to be a professional engineer. I told Troy this a year earlier when he was going to fire me then. I think it stuck in his head, as it should've. It was an odd thing to say to your boss at a recording studio. It kind of, slipped out my mouth. In any case, Glen making that call really saved me time. Because I would not have quit on my own. I was wasting time and thank god they saw that. I went on to start my own unrelated business in 2001 and it did very well. That never would've happened if I was still wasting my time in the recording industry.
    I don't know why I'm babbling on about this old minor nothing of a story. If anyone read this far... I'm sorry... You weren't rewarded with a great story or even a point. Ha! Sorry. Well, the moral of the story is... The Germanos run a god damn great studio. And that's coming from a guy they shit canned.

      @@jermaineinoue4919 I'm the wrong guy to ask. I admit I have a terrible ear. I always did. I always felt like Bob from La Bamba in the stuido. Ever see that? "60 takes, I couldn't tell a difference with one of them."
      I never could tell the difference between this and that when people got into the weeds, sonically speaking. TBH... I kinda hate audiophile types. 99% of people can't tell the difference between this or that.... And the people that think they can always annoyed me. Worrying about the sonic intricacies was just so boring, to me.
      I use software plugins that mimic all the hard gear I used to use... I can't tell any difference. Software has gotten so damn good, and it's been this way for nearly 20 years, but especially now. If you recorded a song and told me XYZ... I'd never know either way.
      But I remember guys that would swear they can tell what board, for example, a record was recorded on. And I just never bought it. Really? After all the music and processing a normal song has anyway... you really think you can tell which board was used, or which mic? No! You can't. And if you can, you're listening to the wrong thing on a record. It must be torture to have such an acute ear, anyway. But most people are fooling themselves.
      Sorry. I hope I don't sound like a prick. I just can't tell any difference and I'm being honest. It's probably a good question, just not to my caveman ears.

    Are you planning to had more headphone EQ curve to the NX serie ? I don't see the DT770 for exemple, which is a very common headphone in studio

      Came here to write the exact same thing. I’ve been wanting to get these plugins but won’t until the DT770 is one of the available options. Seems like a real swing and a miss to not include them.

    • @waves
      @waves  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi DJSE, while we do have plans to add more models, we have no ETA to provide at the moment.
      The Nx line recreates the spatial acoustic response of speakers in a room over any headphones.
      This can benefit you by helping your mixes translate better to speakers, whether or not you also use EQ correction.
      You can use Nx to add spatial acoustic response to your headphones, and add EQ correction on top (whether using this plugin, or other software).
      That being said, in order to benefit from these plugins’ spatial effects, EQ correction is not necessary

      Many people have been asking Waves to add the DT770s but they have a tough time listening to their customers. It would take 5 minutes or less of work to add those.

    • @rogercabo5545
      @rogercabo5545 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should add the DT880 pro instead of the DT770. It has the better stereo imaging and more great frequency response and used for mixing by the most world class engineers. The DT770 is more an old fashion hype for ppl don't know it better.
      Take care.

    I played all of the clips that they have --just to find out what the AMBIENCE knob does? No such luck. All we hear is about the NY studio itself, not about this utility program.

    • @waves
      @waves  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ambience increases or decreases the amount of ambiance in the room compared with the model.
      The specific and accurate sound signature of the Germano Studios control room is modeled with
      impulse responses (IR). When you select a studio monitor type, the associated IR loads. This IR
      describes everything about the room: the speakers and how they interact with the space, the
      reflections, and the ambience of the space itself.
      The Ambiance control lets you adjust room ambience to taste. The default Ambience setting of 100% presents the modeled room ambience exactly as captured by the IR. By increasing or decreasing the Ambience setting, you can subjectively alter the amount of room ambience. Your monitoring reference will no longer precisely match the Germano control room, but it will provide a personalized mixing environment.

      buy the waves nx bluetooth headtracker if you are going to use these. I have it with the nashville and abbey road studios. I had heard about this because Devin Townsend uses it when he is on the road he mixed his whole album with it and a few lamb of god tracks i guess too.

      @@drinkinslim try mixing your beat without the plugin, then export your beat. Then use the plugin with it on your master, mix your beat, then export the beat with the plugin off. Your beat will sound how it did with the plugin on... but it will sound different/better than the first mix you exported not using the plugin. The plugin just gives you a emulated "sound treated room", so that you can make better mixing decisions. Its not like a compressor or distortion effect that you apply to a track to get a specific sound. It only alters the way you hear sound in the headphones when mixing. It makes your headphones have the same mixing environment as the Germano studio. When you use the plugin to mix, then Export the beat (with plugin off), then you just printed the beat with the mixing benefits of the plugin environment. Hope i didn't confuse you
