Structure muscles i.e. tendons is what Zhan Zhuang teaches. My first lesson was just this then the teacher asked me to end my arms and push but without moving. Very hard. Then he basically helped me stop using my biceps which I had used. I then learned how to use the tends around the elbow, around the knees, to build up waist strength etc. Eventually one day you just turn on the structure muscles and turn off the main muscles and it is bang. Like dropping into a spa but becoming attentive. I was taught that this was the foundation to then do tai chi, ba gua, hsingyi etc. Once you have this structure any force is just dispersed and grounded. Zhan Zhuang training has heavy pushes to all your body when 50/50, 70/30 and even on one leg. I always presumed this was standard and then you can do taichi forms and you are already a step up. This is the traditional rout I believed from many Zhan Zhuang teachers.
That was the best explanation I've ever heard. Certainly many ancient Chinese masters are aware of this, but I doubt that any of them can explain it better. In a way that sums up what Tai Chi is all about. Thank you very much and now let's practice, practice and practice...
Dear Sifu Hairston, since I started following your "Tai Chi Talks" I can say that I agree with 99% of what you've been saying and I still haven't found the 1% that I disagree with. I'm learning a lot from you. Thank you very much.
Conserving energy is smarter than wasting energy. An interna martial art is about doing the most damage to opponent with the least amount of energy. A bamboo tree is resilient because it absorbs the force of the wind by bending. A great 👍 explanation.
great explanation. i suspect the only reason this channel does not have a million subscribers is because the vast majority of tai chi practitioners actually have no interest in doing real tai chi. thank you sifu.
Most detailed and scientific explanation of Tai Chi Chuan principles on the Internet!
Thank you!
Thank you hope it helps
