Just a note: don't breath in the cement dust - use a mask / wet piece of fabric or do the brick rubbing on a rainy day - safe your lungs for skating :)
What I do is just hold a lit marb100 in my mouth while I work. It keeps my breathing to an uncomfortable minimum & gets painful smoke in my eye every few minutes which keeps them good & watery for added ocular protection. Safety first👍
Nice. I used to love making curbs skateable. Now I'm old and broken. I still want to go and slick something up though. Maybe try a 50-50 to slappy my face on the floor.
Just find some with the handicap ramps and make a roll on slappy. When my back is jack and my hips dont wanna turn. but I want to feel something grind the little roll on curbs are great!

2:15 the amount of factual wisdom passed on in this video here alone is solid gold. I know that feeling of wanting others to start rub bricking other sections of the curb spot but also not wanting to blow it up.
Been skating my broom finish everything lil town in Arkansas and can't grind a thing! Put an entire candle on a ledge yesterday and still stuck (skate shops are few and far here) "Rub brick is crucial" That's what I needed to hear! Picking one up tomorrow!
Bro just ordered the (2) 2x4 quarters for me and my son from you guys ,lol jacked a parking curb lol bought a rub brick to get it nice and buttery and I’m stoked 👏🏻 thank you!
Yall got nice curbs! Here in wisconsin they make the curbs at 90 degree angles and the corner is rounded off with no edge. Then they rough them up with push brooms. You would literally have to take off a quarter inch with the rub brick
I made one of these but it’s too high up too slappy lol, & I tried to learn crooked grinds on it but kept getting bodied. I’m super sad lol. But I been hitting this other slappy spot downtown so I’ll have to try to learn slappy’s there cuz they seem so fun 😮
can you explain the tools used please. i have no idea what the thing at the start hes scraping on the curb is, or what hes spraying on it. what is clear coat?
Is the rub brick being held parallel to the top, then parallel to the side, like taking off the paint? Or are you taking off the sharp corner of the curb off by grinding the rub brick at a 45 to it? The video isn't too clear. I see a lot of curbs rounded over but it seems like you'd just roll / fall of a rounded curb and not really be able to lock in.
Damn I wish my county would pour slanted curbs. Every curb here, in FL, is poured on the 90 with such crazy high humidity that rub bricking just crumbles the curb apart. Maybe make my own?
wish we had such curbs as you have, in my country we have almost no painted curbs and most of them are so crusty, you cannot rub them down without reducing their height by 3/4ths
slappy back crooks are like the easiest grind ever for me, just roll in hard enough at a slight angle and hold it. No such luck on fs yet, but it probably does help to already have your regular noseslides and crooks, just so you know how to stand on it
New or old. New ledges tend to have a smooth finish but have small lines that grab and cause friction. The rub brick and enamel make the surface buttery and lets it slide. With chunky its a bit harder for the brick since its flat. But a crap ton of wax for chunky tends to work especially with the rocks sticking out of the concrete. And a lot of pushing through lol
what about curbs that are chipped away and painted with 3 different layers of paint? you cant get a rubbrick on the bare concrete and the paint keeps chipping off exposing small spots of bare concrete.
I know this is off topic from the vid, but I’m a beginner skater and I was landing my first Ollies over and over yesterday, but for some reason today I just can’t commit to doing it. Any tips??
It works but like they said, you'll need to put some extra effort into rub-bricking it. Really, this is the most important phase, and half-assing it won't do, so keep rubbing until you're over it and then rub-brick it some more. You'll be filing off a good bit of material, so consider pouring water on to wash away any dust and letting it dry before moving on to the lacquer. And if possible without immediately getting in an argument with someone, apply plenty of wax, but use a blow-torch to really melt that wax into any small holes and cracks.
don’t buy a brick rub if you don’t want to look for broken concrete or rocks with curb corner nooks ceramic roof tiling bits work alright because they have a nice nook but do not last long check your rock brick think for if it’s getting extremely smooth if it is then find another one
Great tutorial. Only problem is that this is a FIRE LANE!!! Messing with these curbs can wind you up in jail. Especially posting a video. There are plenty more out there. Be safe.
@Yasu Leone you should basically never do what you are told especially in current times. but your argument is trash and weakens the argument which like i said is true often and dear to probably most skaters
Paint THEN clear coat for the maaad slick! ... as long as it's been painted first, right Dan-O?! Oh, and don't be mentioning the age old secret wax brand haha, but seriously.
Just a note: don't breath in the cement dust - use a mask / wet piece of fabric or do the brick rubbing on a rainy day - safe your lungs for skating :)
For smokes n bud as well
Even get a homie to spill a bit of water on it as you move along and it’ll keep most dust from flying around.
As an asthmatic, I agree with this. Use at least a P95 NIOSH rated mask when doing this. Prevents carcinogenic toxic particle inhalation.
I already learned this the hard way lol

do a google search on how to make a curb slippery. it will not help you
Those rub bricks really are a game changer, I remember just using rocks like a fucking caveman when I was younger haha!
😂😂 that’s dedication
@Tijn Groot Yeah it did, we just alternated rubbing the rocks with waxing and grinding and eventually it works pretty good!

DIY tip: You can put Bondo in big cracks in the curb, and rubbrick it. It grinds and slides after you clearcoat and wax it.
If there’s anyone in the world of skateboarding who can tell you what’s a good curb and how to slappy it’s gonna be Dan Corrigan!!💙💙

Why not use red laquer instead of the clear? Also when you rub brick wear a mask
what grit rub brick would you suggest, like 20?
How does the rain affect the curb?
if you don’t have anything just a rock will get a curb grinding no wax or laqcuer if you rub it enough
Painted curbs usually can grind with just wax.
Melt the gulf wax down. Pour in some motor oil and Vaseline. Mix it up. Let it harden and have a real buttery time.

After not skating for about 15-20 years, and getting back in it, where does one find a brick to rub these curbs 🤨
