It's true that being familiar with the historical and social context can enrich the experience of the show, but if you have no idea, it won't detract from your enjoyment, as the storytelling, characters, cinematography and acting are so strong. Hope you guys stick with it - it builds and builds over the seasons - and in my opinion - really sticks the landing in the final season which so few multi season series manage to accomplish.
As someone who had lived less than 15 miles from Small Heath Birmingham all my life I love this show and have to say on the whole the accents are spot on.
The accents aren't 'spot on' but they are good, some of them are more of a black country accent. Polly does the best in my opinion. Older Finn is from Birmingham I think so his is obviously spot on
As someone who lives 1.5 to 2 miles South of where Cillian Murphy did a lot of his filming in Bradford, and... As some who lives 1.3 miles North of where Cillian Murphy and Ralph Fiennes, will most likely be filming in Bradford in just 7 days time... I have to say this show is a massively overrated 9/10 show. Series 1 & 5 = 9/10 Series 2 & 4 = 10/10 Series 3 & 6 = 8/10 with series 6 very close to being a 7/10.
Who did most of his *Peaky Blinders* filming just 1.5 to 2 miles North of me, where multiple Oscar winners have also filmed... Also starred in *The Way We Live Now* (2001) just 11 miles North-West of me, at a location in this episode... And will most likely be back filming 1.3 miles South of me in just 7 days time, with another Oscar winner (who has also filmed here twice before), and other award winners, one of which I've just realised started their career in *The Royal Today* (2008) which was mainly filmed inside the hospital where I was born just 0.7 miles North.

Just know the show spells it out for you. They show the family members, they explain the groups and what has transpired between them. Shelby family - Arthur, Tommy, John, Ada, Finn, Aunt Polly and Uncle Charlie. The family are half gypsies. Tommy is the brains, Aunt Polly is the heart. Freddie and Tommy were best friends - in upcoming seasons you will find out why Freddie and Tommy are fighting. Freddie saved Tommy's life as did Danny. Freddie is a Communist - which MANY men turned to - after the war - as did my maternal grandfather. The Shelbies are backstreet bookieS. BRUTAL - IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. LOL
Excellent series, writing , set design , casting and the way rhetorical story lines were paced. Six episodes per season but they give so much in those episodes. There is a film planned that will take place years after where the series eventually ends.

Thanks for this and I have just Subscribed. You did not show the fact that "Managhan Boy" n and the thought process that went into wanting the horse to win and the fact that THe Peaky Blinders sustained a loss.
I would advise not reading up in regards to this show, everything is put in place throughout the series, also you’ll probably recognise the actress that plays Aunt Polly was also in Harry Potter, Inspector Campbell (the cop) is played by Sam Neil who you may recognise from Jurassic Park. Glad you enjoyed the first episode, look forward to the journey with you guys 🙂

The show started in 2013 and finished in 2022. Hope you love the journey as much as I and many fans did 😊
