Sticking Patio or French Door? Adjust Hinges to FIX

- If a swinging patio door isn't making proper contact when closed, you may need to make adjustments to the hinges, you'll learn how to adjust the hinges to make a patio door fit. The Hinge used on PATIO OR FRENCH DOORS DESIGNED to overcome operational problems caused by normal building settlemenT. Maybe your house has settled slightly over time, or your door panel has expanded or contracted slightly, due to seasonal conditions. Don’t worry. The adjustable hinges on your door are designed to compensate for these types of minor movements. Marvin or Integrity Problem: Swinging door panel needs horizontal or vertical adjustment.
Solution: Adjust hinges. You will need to determine if your door is equipped with adjustable hinges or butt hinges.

You saved me a few grand, I was told I needed to replace the whole door. Instead it cost me six turns of an Allen wrench.
This is a great, easy and quick solution. Worked for me with the allen key. Wouldn't have known without watching this video. I have been worried that my door is going to break and will have to replace the hinges. But it worked. Thanks a lot. Keep posting more such hacks. Really useful and very very helpful.

My back french door hasn't opened for months and I was just finally phoning around to get quotes. They quoted me £70 if it was just an adjustment, £120 if it was the lock and £240 if it was the mechanism! Then I found your video on adjustment and now my door works again!!!! Saved at least £70 (possibly £120 or £240 if they'd pretended it was something else), but I can't believe turning an Alan key just saved me at least £70!!!! Thank you so much for posting this video!

Thanks Dino! Your demo provided the solution to the problem at hand. I think my doors were installed wrong because after tightening the hinges, I had to loosen them a little to lock the door.Your video is very Helpful!!!

Wow...I was at my wits end with an Anderson French patio door. We elevated the house and found that the door became stuck shut. I even bent the handle trying to open it. I finally do a search and find you (Savior), and I'll be damned, your fix saved me a bundle! Thanks!!!

Fantastic advice, Dino - door no longer sticks. But surprised you mention Suffolk County in a caption because we live in the county of Suffolk in England. But the patio doors seem to work the same way as in the US. More power to your elbow!

wow. didn't even know those hinges had a slot for an allen wrench. usually i thought the screws get loose and need to be screwed back in or use a longer screw to hold it tighter to the frame.
If the original door didn’t come with adjustable, hinges, can you retrofit the door with adjustable Hinges? to correct a level issue?

Dino, I have a French door that is hitting the top against the other fixed door. Can you advise how to fix that please?
You could have checked the hinge screws that hold the door......they are typically too short to hold a heavy door like that.

Did you ever get a solution for your situation? We have garden/French doors to our backyard from Jeld Wen and the door is really hard to open and close that the weather stripping on the bottom is starting to peel. I replaced the sweep before and will have to do again but that’s not the solution to replace this every 2 years just so we can let the dog out to pee a few times a day. My builder installed the door professionally so I don’t think the door would be out of square or bowing. I looked outside and it seems the main operating door is higher than the locked fixed door (you can unlatch it if needed). If I could find hinges that I could replace the defaults with that would let me shift the door up or down I could likely alleviate this problem but where to find something with Allen Key adjustment
My doors swing outside so the home pin needs to be security locked from inside. I see a hex/Allen on existing that I believe is to prevent the pin from being removed from outside
