I wish i had watched this before i ended up shaving a door down out of frustration with a crooked frame. Oh, well, i still have three more doors to replace. Thanks for this great video and awesome channel.
Well I am glad I was able to catch you before you did all of them haha. I am glad to hear that it will save you some time. Thanks a lot for the feedback and if you haven't done them all already, good luck!
@@HowToHomeDIY Thank you sir. This particular project involved installing a door where one had never been before. the existing doorway was crooked as hell because the drywall was installed bowed. A tricky piece of work. All the other doors I’ve replaced went very well. I was aware of the bending the hinge trick but had forgotten all about it. Duh! In any case, I really enjoy your channel and your personality is very reassuring and calming. Great You Tuber!
Thank you so much. This is genius. You have a great engineering mind. And this was easy enough to do for single woman. Most videos are taking the door off the hinge and I can’t do that. So hopefully this will help me thank you thank you👏👏
This was a great video. I instinctively used most of the fixes on an interior door that would not close. Now I know I will use fix number 4 that I know will work. I also love the toothpick idea most of all.
Thank you! Finally a year after my husband passed away from cancer, I am getting around to all the stuff we put on hold. I got so sick of my cats popping open my bathroom door because it wasn't hung correctly and causing havoc in that room, I just had to fix it! It took less than four minutes thanks to your video...geez. If I knew it was that easy, I would have fixed it five years ago! Thank you for saving my sanity!
@@oro881 My sincere apologies! I truly love my kitties with all my heart and soul! I will reword my post. Thank you for calling me out on my offensive wording.
This was very helpful. I have been struggling with the door not closing when replacing the hinges. I see that the new screws are a size smaller and as soon as the new hinges are installed, the door jams. When I replace with the original hinges, there is no more jamming. The hinges are the same size. I will try out the steps you outlined. Thank you.
If anyone is having issues with their door latch or dead bolt screws being stripped out and the latch is loose, Ive invented a new door hardware that sits inside with the latch. ReSecure Latch. Thanks for videos like yours that are teaching people how to repair their home.
The most common fix that I notice is the bending of the hinge back into place..and just think I had a contractor that wanted to charge me $450 just for this..I said no thank you I’ll see how I can do this on my own..thanks for the video!
THANK YOU!! Bending the hinges and the 3 inch screw got my door to close and it was literally going over about 1/8”! Question-I was thinking of adding a 3 inch screw lower as well to solidify the door system (I installed a whole new system) as well but could that have the opposite effect?? Don’t want to obviously if it could negate the progress made. TIA.
Great video, how would you go about bending black hinges to avoid scratching them? I tried placeing a peice of fabric between the wrench and hinge but still created small scratches.
You, sir, are a genius! My heavy front door (full glass lite) has been sagging for 10+ years and not matter how many 3" screws I put in the hinges/frame it didn't help. I tried the hinge bending trick and it worked! Question, are hinges typically bent in this scenario and will they bend again or is it just over correcting to get the door to close?
I wish you could just come fix my two messed up doors.😂😢 I’ve been watching videos for the past hour and still can’t figure it out. My top hinge isn’t properly recessed and I am super anxious about taking the pin out and about trying to bend the things so they line up (assuming it needs that too because it looks a little wonky). The most frustrating part is this is a brand new home.
For Fix #4 that needs door hinge adjustment, I used paint mixing sticks in btw the door and the frame to hold the door in place so I know exactly how much adjustment needs to be made.
Any idea on a door that is hitting the top and crooked. Someone installed new shed flooring and raised the floor about 5 inches thus now the door wont shut or match up with the locking mechanisms. You can shut the door but have to lift it and push it to the right up top to get it to shut but nothing matches up. Any help please.
Gm . I bought a jewelry box mirror to hang on my closet door. Now the door won't close because of the hinges at the top. Can u please help? I need a simple solution. Thanks in advance.
What is wrong with my hinges if it won’t let me close the door at all? I’ve tried every combination. I’ve removed the plates several times. I can’t get it to work. It doesn’t even look right! Help.
I used a Toothpick but it still isn't getting tightened fully. I have four screws there, three philips and one normal one. And problem is all the nornal screws but Toothpick didn't work and two will be more for the hole I feel but perhaps I will have to try with two Toothpick.
Get a wooden dowel and drill bit (slightly smaller then the dowel ). Remove the screws and plate and drill the loosely threaded hole deep enough to where the dowel would be flushed or cut it to desired and once that’s nice and tight put the plate back on while lining up with previous holes and mark where you need to create the new hole. Make a pilot hole then insert your new screw 🎉
Nah mate take a jig saw and just run a couple or so inches of the top then close the door, any space just nail a bit of 1/4 ply to the top of the door to fill any gap , if you want a class finish give it a lick of paint : Trade tip : Use a good brush 👍
Whao......the best 6min and 55 seconds I have watched on youtube today. Thanks.
Glad you liked it! Thanks a lot for the feedback!
I'm blown away at how easy your fixes are. I'm going to fix my door this weekend. Thank you for the tips.

The door hinge bending helped mine!!! Thank you SOOOO much!

THANK YOU!!!! #1 solution did the trick, toothpicks and all. Great video!
Amazingly helpful video. Tip#4 saved us immense frustration. Door closes perfectly now. Cannot thank you enough!

@@HowToHomeDIY All is great. Super cold here though. Thankfully my door closes well. Lol.
Haha can definitely be thankful for that then! Probably have some of the thickest door seals you can buy on those doors!

You rock dude! Thanks for the help! I think this is the exact problem! I can’t wait to try it tomorrow and hopefully I’ll have saved me 300$!

This video helped hella, had a door that just was being held in by friction but now it actually latches
Thanks for posting this. My door is square again.
Thank you, this was very helpful tutorial. I will go around doing this on 3 of my doors tomorrow.
Yeah! Your tips helped us fix our door. 😊
Fantastic video. Easy to follow. Great explanation.

First time living on my own and freaked out that I would need a whole new door lol, thank you for the tips!
ooh, that bonus tip is the one i needed. thanks.
Hey Frank, awesome! I’m glad it was helpful. Thanks for the feedback!
Thank you. I'm going to try these on my heavier double exterior doors this spring.
You are very welcome! This should definitely take care of those doors as well. Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Thanks. This was very helpful. Now i can adjust this old door.
Very helpful video. Your videos are always full of great fixes.

Thanks soo much for this video...I almost replaced my darn doors

Thanks for a really helpful video!
I have an interior door with just two (2) hinges and makes contact at the middle top . Is it the same fix as three (3) hinges???
Thanks so much for this video you made me feel like a pro
Beautifully done!
Hi what about putting the top hinge on the bottom and the bottom one on top would that work okay ?

Great job, I'm excited to attempt a fix to our sagging door!
Holy toothpick, Batman! Who knew?! Brilliant!
Dude!!! Live saver! Thank you
Thanks! The toothpick trick didd the job.
Nice tips
Thanks, that was very helpful.
I LOVE that tooth pick trick. I just learned it about a year or so ago and I wish I would have thought of it way earlier lol

Does the 3 in touch the drywall ?
I only have 2 hinges, 1 for the frame and one for the door, does the same rule apply?
Very helpful
Great video. Thanks.
My door isnt sagging but isnt tight with the frame on the top the top left of the door is out while the bottom is flush any tips on a fix?
Very helpful, I have this exact problem and wasn't sure how to fix it, thank you.

mahalo for sharing your post 🤙🏼
Would also be cool if you explain how best to fix door rubbing on top edge
All those tips will fix that.
Mine is having trouble closing on the bottom. Any ideas?
Same fixes as the video should work
That’s not the top of the door. That’s the side of the door. What about the top of the door?

lol, just bypass using a file eh
Genius!
Instructions unclear, i accidently set the carpet on fire....
A large amount of gasoline will put that right out!
My hinge pins are headed both ends so can’t do that option
Greatness
Thanks a lot for the feedback. Glad you liked it!
Seriously why can't we learn this in school instead of useless subjects like chemistry... 🙄
Ty for the tutorial!
nice no extra talk presentation
Glad you liked it. Thanks for the feedback!
I like to put a little wood glue on the toothpick.
That would definitely strengthen it. Thanks for the tip Mark!
Another one!!!
Maybe they should have a better system. These doors drive me batty.
My door shuts but every time I open it, it makes a noise. The top left of the wall touches the top left of the door
What if its catching the bottom of the frame? It was the top now I've over corrected I guess and now this is the damn door change from hell.
Just adjust it back slightly
ive had this issue for years and it drives me nuts. I want to sell the house everytime i deal with it lol
lol! Well now you have some fixes that should take care of them for a very long time!
