- One of the biggest struggles gardeners face is keeping their hanging baskets gorgeous all season long, so we want to share our secret with you - automatic drip irrigation! Join us as we show you how easy it is to install these automatic drip irrigation to your hanging baskets (which you can also use in your hayracks and containers!). I've never seen the dripper put into the large tubing... I put it at the end! But this saves the need for the little 1/4" joiner piece! Brilliant!
This is a great idea for hanging baskets. Work smarter not harder is also my motto.

No you don’t. It’s not too difficult. I’m a 75 year old nana and I did mine three years ago and keep adding on. Now I want to do my hanging baskets. Try it yourself good luck.

I have never tried drip irrigation before, but that timer on the faucet might just be the game changer for me. I don't have a huge garden, but it's big enough now that hand-watering is getting a bit time consuming. Thanks, Jenny and Jerry, for a great video!

Thank you for the tutorial. We are in the process of building our forever home in the lovely Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I am going to try to install drip for the pots on the front and side porches. Wish me luck🤞. I have alot of Kimberly ferns that I brought home with me when we moved from the deep South. They definitely enjoyed a much more humid environment than what they are getting these days in VA so this video goves me hope that i can keep them happy.

So it my case and I do have a lot of beds .... I could at least run a line to the pots that I have close by .... and that would be a big help ... Who knows after that I may get brave and do more Hehee ..... Hugs

OMG! Thanks for this video! I've been on the fence about drip for a few years. I enjoy examining my plants as I manually water them. But I do stress on hot days; when I'm not sure if I've watered them enough. I'm sold on drip! But please! Please! Please! BRING BACK THE GARDENING AT CREEKSIDE OPENING JINGLE!!!
Definitely need this detailed instruction. Every year I hang flowering baskets and every year birds nest and lay eggs in them. It’s a battle to water or not and yet not to disturb the nest. My son got me a new hanging petunia on Sunday for Mother’s Day- and within half hour, wrens were building a nest. It’s Thursday (4 days later) and already they have eggs in it. Now I feel stuck. Hoping I can get drip tubing very quickly and quietly installed to not disturb them (much). 💗💧🐣

Informative video. I feel with all this extra water one gives it plants, not mentioning increased fertilization needs to added as a footnote.
Very valid point! Your fertilization regimen will also be determined by what plant you have in the basket/container. Some are very heavy feeders, while others like this euphorbia don't require as much.

Love your video!! After years of hand watering my baskets and barrels I've decided to put in an auto-timed watering system!!! The only thing missing from your informative video is what size pressure regulator to use for the short line span... suggestions?

So glad you made this video. My spigot are extremely low to the ground and I am having a hard time trying to find some kind of extender so I have room to attach my timer and back flow preventer etc. 🤷♀️
That is an interesting dilemma. If you send me a picture via FB or IG I’ll have Jerry try to figure something out!
Look up faucet extender. It’s a post that you place near your existing faucet, and connect it with a short hose. It will raise your spigot about 2-3’ from the ground. Most are just pushed into the ground without concrete. Some come with a rack for hose storage. The one by AquaJoe seems to have a lot of good reviews but, there are a myriad of different ones; from basics posts, to decorative scrollwork.
I think Gardeners Supply has something that will help you out.

How do you fertilize your baskets? We are used to mixing the fertilizer with the water we hand water them with. Do you have a suggestion or idea on how to accomplish this?
how do you punch the holes in the main piping and get the tubing to stay in..? where id you get the parts from?
I'm looking to install something similar for 4 baskets! Is there a strong reason to use half-inch pipe rather than quarter inch pipe with little tee fittings? I see a lot of kots that use only quarter inch pipe and it would be easier and cheaper for me to just buy that.
I have mine hanging in a tree so it done a bit differently. But I can’t seem to get the right emitter. The half gallon drip seems to just soak where it drops and then go straight through instead of spreading to the whole pot.
This year I put diapers in each hanging basket on the recommendation of another video and it really has seemed to help with water retention. Silly? Yes. I've already got the toddlers so the diapers were "free" 😂

How do you keep your baskets from dropping extra water onto your porch floor?
They drip just a bit, but it’s also knowing how long to let the irrigation run. It takes a good 20-25 mins before it begins dripping from the bottom.

Camera person needs to focus on what you are talking about, rather than on you. I would like to see a good shot of the pressure regulator and the filter and how/ where they are attached. A couple of times there was a shot of some equipment, but I get frustrated when you are talking about something or explaining and the subject is not on camera. I guess I'm saying there needs to be a better balance IMO.
Hey Michelle it’s Jerry the one behind the camera, at that moment I was supposed to be focused on Jenny what happened was the secondary shots of the pressure regulator got left out. Sorry about that , as you can see in the video there are shots of everything else except that one piece

And now you know you need to do further research on your own about pressure regulators and filters, perhaps before being quite so critical of people who are providing free information. Jim Putnam and Garden Answer both have excellent videos on installing watering systems; a quick search on their channels or in any search engine like Google or Bing will also work.
