I grow a lot of different hydrangeas in 7a in acidic red clay soil. Invincibelle Limetta is my top performer in sun or shade. They start blooming with the oakleafs and keep blooming past the panicles until frost. They have had no pest or disease issues for me and are extremely low maintenance. I don't hear many TH-camrs talk about it, but it's a fantastic hydrangea. I just keep buying more of that one. I never get tired of it.

Wow! Ok. You are right - don’t hear about this one much. Do you prefer this one to incrediballs?

    • @JLee-pc2vc
      @JLee-pc2vc 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@KellyFlowers1968 For arborescens I have Wee White, Annabelle, Sublime, Lime Rickey, and of course Limetta. I haven't grown Incrediball, so I can't compare. Is Incrediball a rebloomer? I also grow 3 varieties of macrophylla, 1 variety of serrata, 5 types of quercifolia, and 5 kinds of paniculata. Limetta is the star of the show every year.

@@JLee-pc2vc Thank you for your response! WOW on all the hydrangeas that you grow. You should do a youtube! :)
I don't know for sure if Incrediball is a rebloomer, but I think it is. I am just now dipping my toe into the arborescens family. That's very telling if you grow all those different varieties and Limetta is the star. Im going to find a Limetta somewhere this spring! So glad I came back to this video - THANKS again!

I’ve been waiting for a video like this…THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! No other gardener that I follow has a video this detailed - no one! This one will be certainly saved in my archive as a go-to informative video. I have a few hydrangeas that get morning sun, but I’ve always wanted to create a hydrangea hedge on my west front yard along our driveway and now I think I can do that. You have truly excited/encouraged me and I now feel confident to plant this and see it flourish. Thank you again lovely lady!🥰

Thank You Jenny!!! I love your videos, and your plants. Several months ago (spring 2024) I bought lots of coleus from you (rediculous and some green ones, forgot their names) and some burnt orange ones too. They have ALL done wonderfully in my shade gardens and on my front porch. I'm in 8a, west TN and ordered online. Just yesterday I pulled up the fried brown ones, because we had a hard frost. I will be buying from you again! ❤

Jenny, I love how you put all of the plant information on the screen. So naturally, I paused this video and grabbed my cell phone to take screenshots. Thanks for that wonderful suggestion! Sun mapping is something that I never did early on when planting shrubs, trees, and perennials, and I learned a few things the hard way. I also did not place things in the landscape according to the mature size, so as a result, I had some shrubs overgrow their location. Since then, I've subsequently limbed up several shrubs into multi-trunk tree forms, which look so much better, and I can leave them where I originally planted them. Other ones had to be removed. Gardening and landscaping can be such wonderful teachers! I hope your family is having a great summer! ~Margie🌞🌿🦋🌦️

Thanks for this video. So informative. My daughter-in-law was just telling me today she wants to plant a hydrangea. I had took her a bouquet of my little limelight that I got from you and planted this early spring. They are blooming and have so many blooms on them. I cut me and her a bouquet. I shared this video with her to watch. Then she can decide what one is right for her. My big limelight I bought from you hasn't bloomed yet. It is full of buds, so I can't wait for it to bloom. It is 2yrs old. 🤗

Jenny, you are speaking one of my garden love languages when you share about hydrangeas! Love this so much and have experimented here in my hot as heck zone 8a in north Central Texas. But my hydrangeas in the ground and in pots are all doing wonderful with the exception of one limelight which is really stumping me as it did great last year and all the other little limelights are beautiful again this year too. And my old mophead in the ground for years now from my home state of Arkansas is doing great too. So I'm planning for more hydrangea plantings next year too, especially after your video today. It's always an adventure in the garden and I love spending my mornings with you in your gorgeous gardens.

I love finding fellow Texans! I’m in 8B Dallas area. I was wondering what you use to improve drainage in our clay and how much you water if you use drip. I really don’t know how to assess the water amount on drip. Also, how many hours of sun do your hydrangeas get? I have eastern and western exposure. Lucky me, lol. Thank you so much!

My invincibelle limetta and spirit are the star of my backyard in 7b. They do get morning shade and hot, direct mid-day sun, then dappled shade but they’re on drip irrigation. The other benefit of both the Annabelle and serrata over the big leaf hydrangeas is they attract bees - not heavily but they do. I also have invincibelle lace - a native lace cap hydrangea. It’s definitely an informal woodland look but also a great plant.

This was the best video ever for explaining hydrangeas! Fantastic! I’ve subscribed. I have some older macrophylla ones that are so finicky! Right now I have several in my full Sun area (which now I know it’s probably the wrong spot) but they are in bloom! Last year or two - just leaves! I just bought Bobos and Little Limes - they are doing great. I tried Incrediball blush - not doing great where I have them - I get Sun in my front yard there but only about 5 hours worth. Bobos in the same bed are doing much better. Great idea - Sun mapping. I tried Suncalc - and it’s accurate but can’t tell you morning or afternoon Sun! Thanks for your great video.

I just can’t believe it! I’ve never been into hydrangeas, but I finally dipped my toes in and purchased two huge 5 gallon Limelight’s. And then I look and see my favorite gardening channel has a whole video on PW hydrangeas! Love it! I’m trying to take in all of the information you’re giving me. It’s very nerve-racking being my first hydrangeas! They are already so big and beautiful and I don’t wanna mess them up and kill them, lol! I’m a little nervous because I live in New Orleans in zone 9A, which is the very end of the spectrum for the limelight’s so I’m hoping they can take our hot humid southern weather! It will be an experiment for sure! It’s a little confusing because I noticed your video descriptions on the screen said the Limelight’s were zone 3-8. Also, I’ve seen it somewhere else that said the same thing, that they only went to zone 8. But on the proven winners website, it says it goes to zone 9A. I don’t know if that’s something that has changed over the years. I’ve heard a lot of talk about proven winners making their hydrangeas more sun tolerant. But either way, I’m on the VERY end of the spectrum so it makes me really nervous. I plan on putting them into 2 huge whiskey barrels I have in my front yard. And then I will probably transfer them into my garden sometime next year. Thanks so much for all of the great tips Jenny… It’s much appreciated!

Great video! So informative. I put three hydrangea in my garden this spring. One was the Little Lime, she’s just blooming now! Oh she’s so pretty.
I enjoy this type of video because you give so much more detail about the plant. There’s only so much room on the pot tags.
I’ve done sun mapping, and it is very helpful. I gifted my nephew this spring to plant his front flowerbed. I called him and asked him to take pictures every hour!
I do have a question, if I plant a hydrangea in a pot, will it winter over? I’m a zone 7b- I live in Philadelphia area, you’re in North Carolina and we’re the same zone!
    Thank you so much Jenny!
