Why Macron is alone for not ruling out Western troops going to Ukraine | DW Analysis

  • Emmanuel Macron has faced uneasy reactions from European allies after he refused to rule out sending Western ground troops to Ukraine.
The French President made the remark at a meeting of more than 20 European leaders in Paris. The conference was convened as a show of support for Ukraine against Russia's war of aggression. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the gathering via videolink. Ukraine is now largely on the defensive as it contends with slow western arms deliveries, and Russia's superior numbers on the battlefield.

Yes, easy to start, and hard to end, thus the importance of always and everywhere maintaining a credible deterrence. The best weapon is one that is never used because it doesn't have to be.
The Russians lost more men taking Berlin at the end of WW-II than the US did during the entire war and we have regularly enjoyed 20:1 kill ratios. That doesn't come cheap, but is why we spend more than the next 6 countries combined on arms. We don't do Meat Waves. We do overkill.

Exactly, plus it _is_ weak to say "No we 100% rule out troops on the ground" because you never know what turns the war will take and Putin will use our appeasement against us (e.g. Russia could try again to invade Ukraine wholesale, to Kiev, or go to the Baltic's). What you say is "We have no plans for troops on the ground" but it was a reporters question, off the cuff, it wasn't a bad answer just blown out of proportion cause that's how the media works (on our attention). It'd be like having nukes and saying "We will never use them", well, then what's the point in having them for determent if there's no threat of them being used? Again, you say "We have no intention of using nukes and hope we never will have to use them".

Macron said 2 very important things.
    1. Europe's defense shouldn't depend on the outcome of an American election
    2. If Europe waits for the results of the American election in November, Ukraine will have already lost the war.
Given the time it takes to ramp up, and how late it is in the game already, with Ukraine having already lost too many boots on the ground, waiting any longer for anything is dangerous.
Perhaps Sholtz wants to wait until Berlin is bombed twice a week by hundreds of Russian missiles? By then Poland will be out of the fight and once again the US will have to save Europe from its own plodding, bureaucratic, self-serving, cowardly avoidance of its own defense. Jeeze guys. Do you even read history on that side of the pond? Thunderously inept response to Russia so far. How many millions will die this time because Europe refuses to maintain a deterrent comprised of weapons AT SCALE???
Here's a start. Commit to producing 5 million rounds of 155mm arty in 2024 and make damned sure you do it. Pretend Elon Musk is in charge of production. Get your butts on an emergency basis, because Russia, China, NK, Iran are fighting WW-III, even if Europe is still wringing its hands.

Everything I say is referenced from what zelensky said, but he said it on different occasions. He once said Ukraine has approximately 600 000 soldiers, this week he said Ukraine had lost 31 000, that's around 5%. So you are telling us for an army that lost around 5% of its personnel in 2 years can't wait till November? And you are suggesting they are out of personnel, how is that possible? Unless you are telling us zelensky is lying. If he is lying, what else had he lied to us about?
If we start looking at serious fundamentals, we will all discover that this war would have been negotiated before it even started, but there are a lot of guys lying in order to line their pockets at the expense of ukranian lives

I feel like we are putting too much pressure on Germany. Why not the other EU countries. Why the focus on Germany?

If NATO does not want or cant fight the Russians in Ukraine it certainly wont fight the Russians once they have attacked the NATO countries such as Baltic countries. Defeat for Ukraine may happen quicker than thought as troops would lose courage without enough ammo.

Of course it wouldn't. What made you think otherwise? A piece of paper?
