Only The Strong is one of my favorite martial arts movies. Rocky series, Last Dragon, Bloodsport, The Big Boss and Only The Strong are probably my top 5.
Thanks to Only the Strong I found Capoeira which I have been studying for 25 years! It has brought me so much joy , friends, and love over these years! Thanks Luis!
Excellent interview Viking! Luis Esteban seems like a nice a guy and he definetely knows about cinematography. Very cool to hear this insights about this classic👏👍
Hello, Viking Samurai. It's cool to see someone making videos about Only the Strong. Ten years ago, on my other channel, i talked about Only the Strong. Such a film, usually makes for a good conversation. TERRANCE OUT
No waaaaayy, another cliffhanger. Oh man. You're great at this. What an amazing character. Brilliant. I always remember my Mother, and other people thinking unnecessary violence in movies. But as Luis said, the deeper meaning behind in the tale is always something that fascinated me also as a kid.
Great movie. Cool soundtrack too. The whole concept of this movie was great. First watched it when I was 12 years old. Inspired me back then to do martial arts.
I appreciate that VS cares for these films and takes time t make these videos. These films and martial art legends are big part of my life and I love that there VS unites us here and makes such great interviews. LOVE THIS
It will seriously be a true honor to be in the new cast in the upcoming “Only the strong”, in the new era of course, much obliged to you for this interview sir, just a New subscriber.
Wonderful interview VS, I've enjoyed every second of it. Luis is a great guy. Can't wait for the second part. Damn, that smile at the end promise very much..😁
Only The Strong is one of my favourite 1990s, martial arts films, of which I always wished, that there would have been a sequel, or trilogy. Looking forward to your next video continuation with Luis Esteban, this interview was absolutely awesome Viking Samurai 🦘🐨🇲🇽🇦🇺.
This movie got me into Capoeira after 7 years of Karate. That movie influenced me and my friends so much we used to reenact parts of it as fun. Because of that movie’s influence my whole take on movement became different and i carry that nowadays too! It’s so good to see what happened in the background, the origin story, wow. Amazing Thanks a lot man
Viking im proud of you, and where you are going... you are basically trying to just let people speak of their experience.. you are not choosing sides and at times playing devils advocate or just trying to look thru different lenses.. im disappointed in sheldon ... basically trying to be mad at you for supposedly choosing a side.you are not picking sides and u are not trying to destroy or trample on people. I respect you just getting the stories out there
Only the Strong is the movie that introduced me to capoeira, I saw it and was mesmerized. Capoeira and Muay Thai are definitely the two styles that I think look best on film, just my opinion.
It wasn't yesterday I saw that movie!!! I saw most of the movies mr. Dacascos made back in the day:-) Liked Kickboxer 5 and Drive was cool also. He was in John Wick 3 so hopefully his career continues strong from now on! Nice that he gets some time on your channel:-) keep up the good work!
I had an uncle who trained martial arts, he introduced a little bit of capoeira to me. I would watch him dance one second and then he would throw these awesome kicks and flips.
Great interview and a great channel. I just want to know where they filmed the intro scene were Mark Dacascos is in a military uniform in a beach. The scene pretends to be in Brazil. Thanks!
Best part one. Thank you so much David for bringing my father's words and work to light. This is too cool. I'm a kid again! :) Excited to see the rest. Bring on the value. Bring it on. :)
Another fascinating interview. Very interesting guy. My best friend growing up LOVED Only the Strong and introduced me to it, and we watched it all the time and tried to mimic the moves. Even though I was athletic and coordinated and I was able to do moves from some other martial arts movies, I couldn't really get the Only the Strong moves down. But my friend always had an uncanny ability to see something in a movie and be able to just do it, even really challenging moves like capoeira.
Two of my teachers are in this movie he Dwight woods and Ricky amar I think I spelled this thing wrong but they're the ones that did the Filipino martial arts thugs
Good movie Mark's break through in action movies his first starring role before that he was the main villain in American Samurai with David Bradley from American Ninja 3
Loved this and it is such a fascinating interview - Luis is such an intriguing person, seems heroic and almost Yoda-like in some ways, you can just tell just from some of the things he was saying about the fight and self-defence stuff at the start. Very humble in the way he came across about things in his life and the people he met. Another awesome interview Viking - thank you for this.
"We wanted to plant some seeds" turns into the line buetifully executed by Mark Decasco in the Only The Strong movie "Who sold you on that load of crap or should I guess. I got some major news for you man. This world can be as big as you ever want it to be. Or as small as your tiny little hood. I'm showing you some choices, you decide" great movie, my and my friends love it, hell we grew up with it, viking samurai man, good show as always. Me and my friends are going to trip out if you invite Mark Decasco and Paco Christian Prieto on your show for an interview.
Only the Strong is underrated as hell. Dacascos has never been better before or since and Paco Christian Prieto made a wonderfully smug, hateful villain.
@@GothamKnight84661 I actually wasn't very impressed with that one. Everyone else seems to absolutely love it but I felt like it was over-choreographed to the point of not feeling organic and fluid. Just my opinion.
Being able to use your martial arts in a real fight requires regular pressure testing. If you're not used to using your techniques under high pressure both emotionally and physically, you aren't likely to perform the way you imagined.
I mentioned it once before but it would be super neat if you had tai mak but I have this feeling you are on top of it thank you for keeping me entertained 😊
One of those good martial arts films from back in the day. Capoiera was a weird looking art to me back then and I always wondered where one could learn it since in my town at that time, there wasn't really anything other than karate and even the karate and TKD was more for little kids.
5:35 Luis, Bruce Lee was born in San Francisco, not China. He was raised in China after he was born. Just only correcting since you said "was born in China"
Hey Viking there is a movie that Mark Dacascos was in that you should watch if you have not already. It is a movie a lot of people have not heard of but it's really good bro. It's called Boogie Boy! Mark is awesome in it! It's a really cool action flick he was in back in the 90's.
@@VikingSamurai He shows some very impressive martial arts skills in the movie. The choreography of the fight scenes is simple , quick and efficient. There is one part about 30 minutes into the movie you will see and be like oh wow that was badass!! This scene is over in about 20 seconds but dude it is vicious and precise on how he uses his skills.
he seems like a interesting guy thats done a lot of things in his life. OH I love how he just mentioned The Warriors as im typing..AMAZING film..and the video game is not bad either..
I agree with both your views of what "wlef-defense" really is about MOSTLY....I see it just as another kind of "execise or sport". The idea of "self-defense" using a MA is a naive thinking. As you both mentioned....in a real fight it's "never like in the movies.....it's a mess". But I'd add....it's usually not fair. You know nothing about the other guy ...assuming its only one other. Could be a smaller guy but pound for pound much stronger/faster. And more so I blieve when we DO get attacked we'll be outnumbered. One of us VS many of THEM. Are some of them carrying knives? Guns? Are they standing behind us already? are there 3 or 6??? etc. MA for me is abut fitness or sport. That's it. Want to relaa? Study yoga. Something more athletic? Dance,, tennis....etc.
