    I love this tutorial and am following along with my own skirt, but with the tartan I found it really difficult to see when it was right or wrong sides facing (especially adding the 2nd half of the waistband at the end). It would be awesome if during editing you could add a little wrong/right side mark on the fabric. It would help beginners like me a lot!

    I truly love art in all of its forms, I've tried painting, sculpting, music, coocking.... and I usually get results after having cried on my work (especially when it comes to architecture) so THIS is new, no tears were shed on my sewing project, only blood.

    Beautiful!! I'd been wanting to recreate a skirt I had bought but couldn't figure out how they got the zipper to sit so neatly inside the waistband but thanks to your tutorial I realise they used a facing. I've now successfully recreated a skirt with a beautiful waistband and inserted zipper. Thanks so much!!

    Lovely.
    I’m struggling with the waistband. And sewing the zipper. Folding over the waistband (I did put interfacing).
    I’m unsure about putting the zip all the way to the top, or letting the waistband extend and adding a series of hooks for weight change…
    I also love 3 panel circle skirts so there’s inseam pockets that are attached to the waist band so the weight doesn’t just pull on the side seam.

    Nice skirt and beautiful video presentation. I wonder why you chose to cut the skirt pieces as two separate half-circles instead of folding the fabric twice and cutting out a whole circle (plus seam allowance on one fold)? Do you find it easier to insert the zipper?

    Just before putting in the zipper, what do you suggest to someone who doesn't have a serger? Would i be okay just putting in a zigzag stitch down both sides? The machine I own is very old and doesn't have many settings. Thanks in advance for your answer!

    • @LaurenJohnson
      @LaurenJohnson  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there! I'd recommend just using the zigzag like you mentioned. That's how I did it before I had a serger! Thanks so much for watching!

  • @agnesregner310
    @agnesregner310 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What kind of circle skirt is it? Is it a half circle or a full? Because I thought it was a half circle but then all of a sudden you had two half circle pieces.
    So the pattern was drawn as a fourth of a circle which means it should be a half circle at the end if you cut it on the fold right?
    I am very confused but I loved the video and it helped me a lot to understand how to make the pattern and get the math right. Thanks! 😊

    • @olgahein4384
      @olgahein4384 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      She made a full circle skirt, by cutting 2 half circles and then sewing them together. Considering she is sewing in a zipper and cutting everything waist fitting, it makes more sense to have 2 sice seems.
      She is cutting the first half from 8:52 (after pinning the quarter circle pattern to the fabric on the fold). From 9:25 you can see how she cuts out the second half by putting the already cut out fabric (still pinned with the pattern) on it again. This is more precise than folding the fabric 4 times, unless it's very thin one. It would be better to do that with a roller cutter though, cause than you won't have to lift it for the second round of cutting.

    • @agnesregner310
      @agnesregner310 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@olgahein4384 thank you very much! That makes a lot of sense. I thought that you only folded it and then you had the full piece. So if I were to make a half circle skirt I’d make to cut on the fold if my pattern is an eight of a circle right!
      Thanks again! This helped tremendously! 🥰

    • @olgahein4384
      @olgahein4384 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@agnesregner310 No, for a half circle skirt you cut it only once with a quarter circle pattern on the fold. With an eight circle pattern you risk to cut on the bias, wich is stretchy and that can make your side seems stretch out.
      Also, you have to change the math for the waist line for a half circle skirt.

    Great tutorial! But for the waist measurement why didn't you just divide the waist measurement by 4 and folded the fabric by 4 to cut it round?

  • @TheBibleNerd334
    @TheBibleNerd334 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’m 5’11” and am just getting into wearing skirts so I like them longer. Would the folds look weird if I made it longer? Cause I really love this design and am hoping to make one for Christmas 😊
    Also how much fabric do you think I would need for it to be about mid-shin length?

    • @LaurenJohnson

      The facing of the the waistband is sewn to the waistband along the sides and top, and then turned to the inside so that the raw edges are finished. I hope this helps!

    • @LaurenJohnson
      @LaurenJohnson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Laura, thanks so much! I believe I purchased two yards for this project, and the fabric was 60"/152cm wide. I usually work with three yards when I make a circle skirt, but since this fabric was wider, two worked well!

  • @Sariahific
    @Sariahific ปีที่แล้ว

    I keep watching these circle skirt tutorials but the when you added the seam allowance to the top part where the waistband would attach, wouldn't adding the seam allowance the way you did make the circle much smaller than what the waistband will end up being? It seems like that there's something not adding up with that. If anyone knows how that ends up working out please let me know.

    I've been thinking...since the fabric drapes down over my butt the added "bulk" would make the skirt shorter in the back than the front, right? Anyone got any tips on how to make it equal length all around without having to sew a dozen panels ? XD

    • @LaurenJohnson
      @LaurenJohnson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh great point! I think what I would do personally is cut the skirt a bit long, pin up the hem, and then adjust it to look even when trying on? I've always found circle skirts to be pretty forgiving because of the amount of fullness and drape, but I have scoliosis which means I hem everything purposefully crooked so it looks straight when I'm wearing it! 😂 I'd love to hear feedback from others!

I'm sitting here, ripping my hair out, because I've watched the SAME PART like 20 times and I still can't make it out. I tried applying it one way, and it didnt work. 3.14 is Pi. You must be forgetting to multiply by 2. However it is 6.28 as she shows in the video and that is a constant in working out the measurements so you don't have to calculate that bit in future.

    The waistband is very confusing. It seems like it’s too short to go around the whole thing. I’m going to have to re cut it adding some length. Also seconding what others are saying. It would help to know if you’re sewing the waistband with wrong sides or right sides together, skirt inside out or right side out, etc.

      Do you have an invisible zipper? You need a special zipper it's different from a normal zip it's also installed a lot differently. It also helps to have an invisible zipper foot on your sewing machine. If you have all of this I don't know what else might be wrong.
