I'm planning on visiting my friend in Pennsylvania this September. When I bought my Mazda CX 5, the first thing I thought of was, "I bet I could go camping in this thing!" Little did I know other people were already doing it! I have almost everything ready and waiting in my spare room. I have an "America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass". I can camp in our national parks for free! What a deal! Oh, and I'm 71 years old. I'm taking my little dog with me too. I'll write to you when I get back. I can't wait for my adventure to begin!
Yesssss, this is your year!! I'm the same way with vlogging in public, it makes me feel so awkward. Thanks so much for showing your setup and the beautiful views!
I recently came across a couple of vids like this ( particularly w/the CX5 )..which I own (2021 turbo-GTR). But I plan on moving to the mountains of N.E. PA by the end of this summer, to be closer to my son and grandkids. I lived a stone's throw on the outskirts of Phila. for 62 yrs, and after being retired for 3 yrs... the mountains is where I belong. So, I'm going to do some lightweight camping & fishing in my CX5 ..outfitted with a Thule Cargo Carrier on the roof, a makeshift bed on the passenger side, and all other necessities behind me on the drivers' side. I have just under 30k mi on my CX5 ...and don't plan on getting rid of it. Gonna drive it til the wheels fall off 🤟
Amazing!! Sounds like you have your idea all dialed in. Yes a roof rack is my next purchase and cargo box. Then making a modular bed platform( low) for a flatter surface!! Appreciate the comment:) subscribe and follow along. I need all the tips I can get from other CX5 drivers!! Love my car 🚗
@@colleenventures ..by the way, I saw another guy on here go to home dep.. and had them cut a thick piece of wood out, after he measured the area rt behind his seat to the rear hatch (a rectangle) with the passenger side, rear back seat still up. He then measured & cut a thick piece of memory foam to the dimensions of the wood, covered it and added a pillow (perfect) ..he then put his windows up but tilted open the sunroof for airflow.. he had a CX5 also👍
Yes I have plans to do this, with help from My brother in Law later in the summer. He is a very skilled carpenter so hoping to make a modular/ removable setup:) Thanks for all your input.
Awesome!! Thank you, I love my car:) 🚗 I’m new to TH-cam and look forward to getting better at editing and videos and many more adventures in the works:)
I hope you got some ideas from my Mazda video! Feel free to ask me any questions. You'll be surprised on how much you can fit in our little mazdas😂. I do suggest getting a little battery jumper pack. I've used it a few times lol. I only started last year so we are both starting our journeys. I love my Mazda set up but because I'm getting neck surgery & so my hubby can come with me sometimes, we upgraded to a van. I'll be following along your journey. 😁
Yes lots of research, I do need to get the battery pack in case my battery dies!! Yes :) I did get great ideas thank you. Not much out there for Mazdas. Lots of Subarus lol cheers thank you
You are an amazing soul! Appreciate you and the information you impart. Hope 2024 has been your year and continues to be. God bless you, young lady. Camp on and camp well!!
This is awesome! I have a CX-5 and I’m planning to do some solo camping trips in it this summer. Thanks for the inspiration & ideas. Do you have any other tips for staying safe as a solo female camper? 😊
Amazing!! Thank you for the comment it means the world to me. For me being a newbie at camping in my suv the biggest thing is staying in campgrounds until I feel more comfortable. Having cell service is an important thing as well. Telling someone where I am going as well. Some ladies will put 2 lawn chairs out for the illusion of 2 people, or a dog dish and large collar beside it. And even leaving stinky work boots outside the door( size 13 lol) Having an alarm that I can sound off if needed which we do have the alarm button. I can carry bear spray here in Canada, no mace here. A knife is never a bad idea either. I honestly feel really safe in a campground where there are other people. As I grow and learn I’m sure I will spread my wings to other areas where there are less people. Yes get something set up and just go, it does not have to be perfect. We learn what we need as we go. Why spend a ton of $$$ just to find out we did not even need it. Cheers!! Keep watching and check out my other videos. I’m learning and having such fun.🤩
@@colleenventures, mine has three sections that drop down, so I can place it on either side.I’ve got 24 inches (61 cm) of width which is enough for a wide pad.
Its a learning curve for sure! Im enjoying it. Yes I will be building a More flat Sleeping platform, lower to the floor, and then some storage in form of a drawer cabinet that can be removed. As well a Cargo roof box as well. Need to build my emergency stuff, and as well just more of the basics which I do not have yet.
I live in British Columbia, Canada! Yes it’s beautiful. Hitting PNW soon!! I like Florida as well though:) thank you for the comment, much appreciated 💜
Question How do you keep the trunk open without draining the battery? I know some people put in a carabiner i to the spot where the trunk clicks into place when closed but i tried doing that and the light on my dashboard still shows lit up that the trunk is open. I don’t have a power button from the key fob or inside the car to open the trunk it’s a button on the bottom from the outside It’s a 2022 cx 5 standard model I’m going car camping in a couple weeks and I’m afraid of not being able to keep my tailgate/ trunk door open
Consensus online says, it an issue with Mazda. Try to find where you can manually turn the light off on hatch. Some say they make sure to close and even start there car occasionally to recharge. Definitely a negative with the car. Waiting for a few replies in Mazda forums I’m in.
For crying out loud, right down to the same danged cooler. I have a HUGE expensive new one, but that's not going to work for this. Been looking at Yeti-TYPE...no way I'm spending for a name..but thinking for this first trip I don't want to invest.
Ok I’m glad I’m not the only one, the dreaded blue cooler will not fit at all unless I want to hug it while I sleep!! lol I’m watching on fb marketplace for something. Eventually one of the 12V coolers but that’s down the line. So appreciated your comments. This has been a crazy learning curve but one video at a time. 1% better every day.
@@colleenventures I am fully convinced that I am going to learn 90% of what I need to know once I'm actually out there. Heard the advice once to not do anything permanent to your vehicle, even a big van, until you've lived in it for a bit and get an idea of what you want and where it'll work. And yes, the 12v is an eventual purchase goal for me too. Right now all I have is a Jackery 300 so that has to be upgraded ($$$) too. Looking forward to watching your adventures, neat to find someone at about the same level as me at the same time!
I’m finding some of your older messages:) realized there are different setting to see messages. I will figure out TH-cam eventually lol Thanks for your support 💜

Oh my. I've never seen such small cacti! Hope it healed will.
Sneaky suckers!!! lol Canadian cacti lol 😂
I carry that same table in my van.
Haha awesome, been hiding in my garage for years. I should maybe clean it lol 😆
I really enjoyed your video! I give you kudos for putting yourself out there! 😊

I, also have converted my Mazda CX-5, however, I placed my sleeping platform on the passenger side. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us!
Thank you for your comment, please follow along and watch my other videos!! I’m learning as I go⛺️🥰
My seats on the passenger side when lowered is very narrow, it splits at 3/4 on one side, then a 1/4 on passenger side. If that makes sense. ⛺️
