    I've actually met Mystic Dylan! He owns a witchcraft shop in California near me and his books are fantastic! Very helpful beginners guides that I found insightful and offered more than other beginner books out there!

    I like the name "quarterly book breakdown," because not only does it indicate how often you're aiming to do them, but maybe it can even be a play-on word for being a quarter of the way through each book. Ya know, just far enough to get a sense of the writing style, the aim of each book, and your impression thus far.
    It also us hear why you may or may not continue to read a book.

SLUT doesnt have to be used derogatorily it can actually be snapped back and used for something so inoccent as reading multiple books at the same time.. Bless

    I think your book reviews are one of the most enjoyable types of videos you make. You almost always have books unknown to me, some of which I have purchased even though they aren't a style of Magick I have any interest in. Your 4 to 5 hour Q N A videos are another favorite of mine
    Thanks for the work that you do. Best wishes for your continued success. From California.

    I just bought Of Blood and Bones - Kate Freuler a while back and haven't started it yet so I appreciate the info. I don't love hearing that it's Wiccan based but I'm still planning on giving it a chance. Can't wait to hear more of your opinion on it.

    I read A Deed Without A Name and Cornish Book of Ways together and feel they compliment each other very well. Together they created a bigger, clearer picture. I'd started Deed first and nothing made sense (your explanation of perspectives to modern viewpoints cleared up why, thank you!). With Book of Ways, I felt like I was watching everything from the author's shoulder.
    Blood and Bones is high on my current and ever expanding book list. Thank you! So glad you are feeling better ❤

    Love the book recs! A great candle book is Madame Pamitas Candle Magic, she really breaks down everything from different types of candles and their uses, applying oils, reading flames and wax, using symbols etc. I also love Jason Millers books. He does a great job of breaking down rituals and explaining why each step is done.
    Another great one that can be difficult to find is The Modern Witch's Spellbook Volume 1 and 2 by Sarah Lyddon Morrison. It is such a fun and informative read. It was written in the 70's and feels like a beautiful time capsule of what was going on in the time while very much relating to today.

    I thought your points about the black toad are really interesting and I definitely think I'll have to check it out. I am currently working on a book called Backwoods Witchcraft by Jake Richards and it focuses on the blending of folk practices and christianity in the appalachia region of America. I think it does a good job of explaining why one might blend the two because of the historical context of the people who moved from Ireland/Scotland/England and brought their Christian values and own folk traditions that were then combined with Native American influence. I think Richards does a good job of addressing the appropriation of Native American culture and how it effects these practices still today.

  • @Blondielavlocks
    @Blondielavlocks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I know you don't like giving negative reviews on books, but as a beginner witch it would be so nice to have a "I didn't like this because... " Kind of take.
    I've been absolutely devouring literature on witchcraft, and sometimes I find things that are questionable and I don't know where to turn for verification - so knowing a book is misguided or inaccurate would be so helpful.

    • @HearthWitch
      @HearthWitch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Within this video I did a negative review of Hedge Witchcraft, it may not seem like a negative review because I try to always be rounded in my discussions. If I don’t like a book, others might, so I gave both sides of the coin (why I didn’t like it and why others might). However there are books that are insensitive on many levels, books that I don’t feel comfortable even giving air time because they are so insensitive I don’t want to give them any advertisement. These are the kinds of books that I mention at the end regarding not being able to find a single redeeming factor because their insensitivity (towards individuals, races, genders, sexualities, etc) is not something I would ever want to promote.

    If i can remember correctly, Pagan Portal authors need to remain under a certain word count.
    I like to think of them as a sort of literary version of tiktok since you aren’t able to share all necessary information under such a restriction and it becomes necessary to look elsewhere if you want to learn more in depth into the introduced topic.
    They’re good as a very brief introduction if you want to figure out what to look into further but never as a solitary source.

  • @j.pinardgaming985
    @j.pinardgaming985 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, now.
    Hearth's Channel has grown!
    I love Reading and I'm Great at it...
    One question: If I follow a "Custom" path which revolves entirely around the use of Hatred.... Well - I don't find anyone else with a path similar to mine - so that means I'm the Creator of the Hatred's Path?
    I generally use the benefits of it - crazy as it sounds... But Wouldn't recommed unless you want to go into goth with an intensity never seen before.
    (Not a Joke, Please.)
    Just some advice I'm asking... Because if there is no one else doing this at all, Well then I am alone in this, too...

    My practice is centered around the Dark Moon and I want to learn more about baneful magic (I was one of those who was told over and over how horrible, dangerous, etc. baneful magic is when I started out). So I snapped up a copy of "Of Blood and Bones" and plowed through it fairly quickly. I was really hoping to find Baba Yaga included, but the fact that She isn't doesn't surprise me all that much. I didn't agree at all with the triple Goddess analogy in reference to The Morrigan. Overall, I gave it 4 stars and look forward to reading it again now that I have had time away from it.

    I really enjoy these types of videos. I’ve read Gemma Gary’s Cornish Witchcraft and really enjoyed it. I have the Witches Cottage too but haven’t read it but when I bought it I didn’t have a feeling it was more about the exhibit and not actual practice stuff.. so glad to know I was right but eventually I will read it.. but it’s at the bottom of my list. Definitely added some books to my list at tree r watching, thank you! Any chance you know of any good books about Scottish Traditional Witchcraft?

    Question: what do you do with witchcraft books you are not super into? For example, I picked up a bunch a books, some of which are good but don’t quite fit my practice. (Example: crooked path). Do you keep these types of books in case they will someday fit into your practice? I have been doing that but I have so much clutter I am thinking of getting rid of them. I am scared that I will someday want them back.

    Next time you run into a book you hate just say 'no comment' and talk about the next one 😅

      I’d rather hear why she doesn’t like it. It might still appeal to me.

    I love these, just caught your more recent one. For a hashtag... "Bookmarking"..? Like the idea of a bookmark as a place or thing you're coming back to (for reviews and not necessarily finished). Also, the idea of marking down notes and takeaways in a book, as some might do, hehe. These vids are so inspiring and reassuring (I rarely 'finish' a book, but doesn't mean I don't absorb value or content) ⸂⸂⸜(രᴗര๑)⸝⸃⸃ Thx, xo
