As an American (at least everyone I know) use “college” as a catchall term. You say “I’m in college” or “I loved my college experience” but university refers to a specific type of college. You wouldn’t say “I’m going to university” you’d say “I go to A university” if it’s something like University California Los Angeles
Interesting! I'm in Canada and university and college are considered different post-secondary options here. In general (with exceptions, of course), university is for those who wish to receive a bachelor's degree (or a graduate degree like a graduate diploma or master's, etc.), and colleges usually offer more practical, hands-on courses--police foundations, early childhood education, trades, etc.-diplomas, certificates, and in some cases, a bachelor's degree (like nursing or film production). But, like you guys, we say "I'm IN university/college" (vs "I'm AT university/college"). I find regional language very fascinating!
Russell, There also are Universities that are city funded In Chicago ,there are two of them Both Depaul & Loyola are Universities that are funded by the City of Chicago
@@jfields414 I agree with you What can confuse ( even an American) is not knowing the difference between the two of them A college usually is either city or community funded .which has to be stated in the name of the college ( Elgin Community College & College of Dupage are good examples). @@TabithaReminiec3399 They may be universities, but I have never once heard an American in the US say "I go to university" as they would in the UK. We say I'm a college student, or I'm attending the University of such and such.

Another option (at least in the US) is to find a local CUUPS chapter (Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans). A lot of them are active online right now. 🤗
Candace, What if you're the only witch who is living in a Evangelical neighborhood ? ( There isn't a CUUPS chapter in my area...not even a Metaphysical atore !)

i have tried many times trying to find other witches, even making my own club in college, and its really overrated. The egos run high, there's usually at least one person with a mightier-than-thou attitude, someone who looks down upon Wicca or Satanism, etc, and its tough getting through all that in order to find someone to just practice with.
good points, but its more than making a group....its "magicking" a group, you need to cast a spell to "attract like minded and equally yoked individuals" &" bring forth a amazing learning environment"
I used to love Pagan and Witches Amino a couple years ago. It was a wealth of information for broadening knowledge. I really need to download it again. Also, my local state Witches and Pagans Facebook group is amazing. The admins are great about shutting down gatekeeping and drama. It happens every now and then (humans gonna human) but they’re great at catching it early.
my advice is to observe these sources, learn from others, ask little, listen much, and work on your own. many times the struggles of trying to be friends with other witches have led people to abandon the path entirely.
For Americans, post-high school is called college in general. Usually in American post-high education places are called college or university, but university implies higher level and at least 4-year degrees. Sometimes American universities have colleges inside, as say dorms or grouping of majors. For example, I go to a state university and my college is engineering.
This is exactly what i've been needing right now!!! I'm new to y practice and the witches community and I don't know where to go to find some kindred spirits with similar interests, to share my experiences with and learn from! Thank You!
Really good to hear about ways that aren’t just focused on Facebook. Its the #1 way people recommend connecting w/other practitioners. However I don’t ever want to have join Facebook. I’ve made it this far in life without an account and don’t plan to get one.
Ahh spells of magic is def a blast from the past , (lmao not even that long ago im only 19) but when u said fluffy spell section I immediately remembered my kid self, doing those fantasy spells and thats how I got started into actual witchcraft, ahh good times , grateful for that kid and her wild imagination ❤
This is very similar to my experience. My interest in the occult technically started with me just googling "magic spells" or "real magic" as a kid haha, though I didn't do any serious reading on it till a good number of years later.
As usual, a very instructive video. 👍 You are so good at what you do! Thank you! As a side note, I finally found out who you make me think of! The character is Morticia in the « Adams Family », a black & white show that used to air in North America. I don’t know if it aired elsewhere in the world. It’s a sitcom I used to love watching the re-runs and Morticia, the wife and mother, is such a beautiful woman. You can find some episodes on YT if ever you want to take a peak. ☺️
Thank you so much for going through the trouble of filming, editing & posting this. You did an excellent job & were so good that you actually made me (a hermit) want to try this being social thing (online only of course). I'm new to all this & have been TERRIFIED of going to any online covens/forums etc. Thanks again for posting this it has made me willing to at least check out a forum or two. =-)!
This couldn't have come at a better time, thank you so much for these recommendations!!! I recently moved to a small city in the rural, midwest US, and I've been struggling a LOT to find likeminded people. I will check all of these out, esp the online ones, this is really really helpful, thank you.
I concider myself a pagan and use mostly norse terminology. People give my rune candle weird looks lol but it fulfils me greatly, has connected me to my roots, ancestors and land spirits. I've learned what 'sacrifice' actually means. And it doesn't involve killing things >_> Wish I could connect with others irl but us pagans/heathens tend to just go our own way because of all the politics/dramas. I'm very much alone down here in little New Zealand but it's ok. Would be great to go to some gatherings around large fires though 😅😅
Omg thanks so much for talking about this!! I've been practicing for several years, but struggled to find a community. This is my only sense of a crafting community
Also, depending on the individual school, it could be called a State or Community College or a State University or a University of (City or State). Generally, I hear phrases like "Going to college" or generally talking about "higher education.". We Americans have zero consistency lol
I haven't seen any MBS shows advertised for years. I remember going to a "psychic fair" which seems to match the sort of show you are talking about. The ones I went to didn't have food or speakers, but would have tables set up where people from occult shops might bring in some of their popular wares to sell. I have seen some people that weren't really psychic or occult in any way. I have seen tables where they would sell either aromatherapy, or art, or even a doctor who had recordings of hypnosis CDs. I would actually like to see if I can find some more of them. I remember meeting some pretty cool people there. Once the whole quarantine thing calms down, I would love to see if I can find some more of these.
MBS/ Fairs are one of my favorite places to go! I'm solitary, but it is so nice to connect with people. I've never done anything really involved online. I would love to look into into though 💚💚
College is usually small scale, owned by the “community” such as a county or even the town it is in and usually only people in that community is pretty much guaranteed to join as long as they have either a GED or a 2.0 or higher in high school, where a university is more large school that is non-profit and are stricter about who can join, also typically have people not just out of county, but even international students.
Are you talking about American colleges and universities? If so, many universities are private and run like for-profit businesses, so I don't think it's a given that a university is a nonprofit. Also, there are plenty of colleges that are very strict, for example Carleton College in Minnesota. No one is getting into Carleton without at least a 3.5 GPA.
Your MBS shows sound so much more fun than the BMS expos we have here. The one I go to is is held inside a convention center, is very New Agey (so not at all pagan and hardly witchy), and mostly comprises a bunch of shops selling crystal jewelry of dubious origins. And there's no food! They've also been holding them during the pandemic, which makes me worried that they're the type of love and light people who don't believe in vaccines. 🤨 They're still valuable, but not quite what I was hoping they'd be. I found my group through Meetup! I'm in the Bible Belt, but there are still several pagan and witchy groups in my area. And most of them have been holding events online during the pandemic.
Yeah I've been to some fairs/shows and I know what you mean. You look through it all and it's just some people selling fake crap or they simply don't have any knowledge at all about what they're selling. It's just to make money. You know when you find someone good because their aura/energy is completely different and they know EVERYTHING about every little thing they have on display.
I use the Witche's Circle Amino and it is honestly super great! I LOVE it. As for IRL I've met some people from public rituals (and the local city fb group I guess) and the club in my uni (very very small though), but like, covid, and I'm relatively new to the craft, so before the pandemic I had like, a year to try and socialize (and finishing to overcome my social anxiety) and now it's all dead, and I'm going to graduate in a week. I hope I can break the ice after. I want good friends and maybe I can find peeps for a coven or smth.

I made a point to order online from my favorite bookstore and go to my new age shop. My favorite gift shop closed early in the pandemic and it really upset me :( As teh vaccines roll out and stuff slowly goes back to normal, we should all go to as many of those small businesses as we can
I wish I could find people to work with. I highly value this craft. I am just learning now that this is a part of who I am, it explains so much about my being and past.
i used to practice, then i got into a relationship that was very destructive and abusive. 15 years later i have come back to my craft to find myself again. i no longer know who i am. i have no friends AT ALL and just want to be able to reach out and find some friends that are like minded. i know this video is 3 years old. but i pray i can find some like minded to just....talk to.
Def miss Witchfest! The Bad Witch blog keeps a monthly events directory which is really useful if you're in the UK - tends to be a bit London centric but with the current situation everything's remote.
Essentially the biggest difference in the U.S. regarding colleges vs universities is size and structure. Most universities have colleges within them, and those colleges have smaller departments within them. For example, a university could have a College of Humanities or College of Engineering, and within that College is a dept. of Literature or Philosophy; or a dept. of Mechanical Engineering or Environmental Engineering. And sometimes, those Colleges within the university are simply called Schools -- like NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Meanwhile, colleges (sans larger universities) simply have departments or schools, and may or may not have a wide variety of majors to specialize in. Most universities are large, but they don't have to be. My alma mater of Kentucky State University only had a student body of about 2,200, but the university in the U.S. with the largest student body on one campus is Ohio State University, which has a student body of 61,000 (the main campus in Columbus only). That's way more than what you wanted to know, I know. Sorry.
Really useful thanks I asked the same question on your live a while ago _and as a newbie to social media this is a great vid to come back to. Brilliant advice as always 🌙
I agree with you about Facebook groups. They’re awful. Discord is my favorite, especially with pagan groups. That’s where I found great community and amazing friends. You can also use discord to find and meet people in your area. The one I’m on organizes people into regions so you know who are all near you and you can plan out gatherings among each other:)
I didnt actually go to any schooling past high school, but I'm pretty sure here in America, all 'furthur education' as you called it is called college but not all colleges are universities. Universities are like the nice colleges with a certain culture. A lot of times, credits from community or technical colleges dont count in universities.
A university is a college but a college isn't necessarily a university. university is. Where you can get a bachelors degree (4 year) and they often have master degree and doctorate programs. Departments/degree categories are divided into colleges (1 building). Community college is two year. If you say university it specifies. Most people don't go to university for associate degree (2 year)
In the US all universities are colleges, not not all colleges are universities.. so we actually call them both... it depends on which you attend. universities have different accreditation standards than colleges.
I’m sure their are others in the Bible Belt thinking the same thing as you. It may be harder for you (due to location) but don’t give up, you never know who is out there wanting to find someone like you to talk with.
Watching this even though I'm not very interested in making friends, but I just love your content. Anyone have suggestions for good insta content?? Ps, You're looking so beautiful, hearth!
Hi baby witch here loving your videos so far. I'm from West Yorkshire England.how do I find u on amino or any other social media so I can read your knowledge 🧙♀️
im in nebraska now and it seems hard to find other witches/pagans out here lol ive seen a couple groups on fb but they have like 3 posts a week so i havent joined any haha ofc right now i dont feel comfortable looking for ppl irl and i also just started rly learning abt all this last summer so i dont know much or even feel certain yet on what my beliefs are
I have a question for either you or others in the comment section. The idea of moots and other in person meet up groups sound good (once Covid restrictions are lifted) as I've always much preferred socialising in person to online. However I have not fully delved into a single practice (but have done some practical works) and have a fairly wide but thin knowledge base on various ideas. The question I have is would I be welcome at a "Pagan" or "Witchcraft" moot if a lot of my interest and knowledge base comes from things such as the Goatia and Chaos Magick?, though I am currently looking into more traditional forms of witchcraft as well and would love to meet fellow practioners of any forms of magick.
I would say probably yes. You'd be accepted. We tend to share a lot of vocabulary. Words like "energy" can basically mean anything. Finding the shared vocab words and sticking to them at first can help you ease into an unfamiliar crowd. Then slowly reveal some of the more outside the box ideas you have. Just don't be too hungry for others validation. People will not automatically agree with you, and it'll come off as weird or desperate if you seek other witches approval too much.
A red flag for me is people that will tell you 'this is how it's done'. One's that claim to be right and won't budge. Obviously if you can ask them why and they back it up with sources or a good explanations then that's fine but some groups/people can be very adamant that it's their way or the highway. And many others are all too happy to be sheep as they're desperate to find a group. So, think for self, ask questions and if you can sense friction or negativity maybe give that group a miss or just be weary of it. I do find that most people are just out there trying to gain more knowledge and are quite happy to share sources, books and experiences :)
I didnt know where else to put this but can someone help me understand protection charms more please i made on recently and suddenly i get random gut feelings and wont calm down until i get out of the situation it feels like its warning me to get out of the situation or do something is this normal?
she did say it in the vid. It's Mind body and spirit. Usually full of alternative healing things like oils/natural products. Heaps of crystal/stone/minerals. Pretty cool fairs/outings to go to.
I am not at all compelled to find a group or coven. I feel more comfortable on my own. My sister and my daughter both practice. We occasionally will do things together. Maybe a couple times a year.. We all enjoy that. ❤ Generally speaking a college is smaller and where you go for an undergraduate Associate of Arts degree. Which is designed as a two-year program. A university is much larger and offers both undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees.
American upper education is a mess. A college is the same as a university but usually we use the words to mean small university (college) vs big university

My favorite gift shop closed early in the pandemic and it really upset me :( As teh vaccines roll out and stuff slowly goes back to normal, we should all go to as many of those small businesses as we can
This is also just great information if you are wanting new places to find resources for your practice.
where do you get your black lipstick from? I am so in love with it!! 💄💄
I wish I could find people to work with. I highly value this craft. I am just learning now that this is a part of who I am, it explains so much about my being and past.
Hello loved the video!!! Looking forward to more.
Thank you, once again for all the information.
Thank you, just joined Amino xx
i used to practice, then i got into a relationship that was very destructive and abusive.
Hearth ,In the US ...A University is State run& lasts for four semesters
College : Jr.College = 2 years
And transfer out to a University
Would you mind sharing the regional discord group
Seconded! A regional discord server sounds amazing!!
17:29 we call it college but most of us are well versed in British English and will try to adjust wording to be polite
Thankyou for the video 😊 I would love a tour of your witchy art prints as a possible video idea 💕
The state I live in has a Wicca church I'm part of and it's great 😄
Thank you for all the videos you do Hearth Witch, Blessed be....
I didnt actually go to any schooling past high school, but I'm pretty sure here in America, all 'furthur education' as you called it is called college but not all colleges are universities. Universities are like the nice colleges with a certain culture. A lot of times, credits from community or technical colleges dont count in universities.
Loving your vibe in this video 💜💜
A university is a college but a college isn't necessarily a university. university is. Where you can get a bachelors degree (4 year) and they often have master degree and doctorate programs. Departments/degree categories are divided into colleges (1 building). Community college is two year. If you say university it specifies. Most people don't go to university for associate degree (2 year)
I have met really great people from having my own youtube channel. It's fun!
Great timing! Thank you!
This was so helpful!
I’m a little late to the party. But do you have any Book suggestions on energy manipulation and meditation?
In the US all universities are colleges, not not all colleges are universities.. so we actually call them both... it depends on which you attend. universities have different accreditation standards than colleges.
Unfortunately, I live in the Bible Belt. I'm guessing there's nothing within a few hours of me. 😒
I’m sure their are others in the Bible Belt thinking the same thing as you. It may be harder for you (due to location) but don’t give up, you never know who is out there wanting to find someone like you to talk with.
I have the same problem. I am in Ms/La.

Watching this even though I'm not very interested in making friends, but I just love your content. Anyone have suggestions for good insta content??

@Hearth What is top 10 Best sites for Witchcraft & Pagan Communities for a begginngers.
Very helpful, thank you
I miss witchvox as they had a load of information on its site x we have both universities and colleges in the UK x
Thank you 😊
This is the toughest for me as I live in a small City and being someone who practices in the "Grey" it is almost non existant.
Did you make any videos on chaos magick or cerimonial magick? I am curious to know your opinion on them!
College is appropriate for all upper education but Universities are most likely a BIGGER state funded school:)
We call it college. A university group is like a sorority to us
Pretty much anything in the US just depends on where you’re from. The terms collage and university aren’t any different, from what I know at least. 😅
Hello to my fellow witches 🌛
Hello xx
Where do you find your discord please
I didnt know where else to put this but can someone help me understand protection charms more please i made on recently and suddenly i get random gut feelings and wont calm down until i get out of the situation it feels like its warning me to get out of the situation or do something is this normal?
Colleges and universities are relatively the same, it just depends on the size and credentials of the school.
What's an MBS show?
she did say it in the vid. It's Mind body and spirit. Usually full of alternative healing things like oils/natural products. Heaps of crystal/stone/minerals. Pretty cool fairs/outings to go to.
I'd love to meet some hippie pagans who love to go to flea markets and eat bbq on weekends😂. Georgia Witch
Is anybody else having trouble joining the discord server?
I am not at all compelled to find a group or coven. I feel more comfortable on my own. My sister and my daughter both practice. We occasionally will do things together. Maybe a couple times a year.. We all enjoy that. ❤
Generally speaking a college is smaller and where you go for an undergraduate Associate of Arts degree. Which is designed as a two-year program. A university is much larger and offers both undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees.
Thanks
Hi
Hi 👋
American upper education is a mess. A college is the same as a university but usually we use the words to mean small university (college) vs big university
🙂
Does anyone know if there any Slavic ( Russian , Ukrainian & Polish ) Witches out there ?
My mother:My child is completely fine!
Me:
I'm not saying that witchcraft is bad, it's just that it's considered "bad" in my country--
Have you ever traveled to the United States?
Anyone from India or Mumbai here?
U R Cuuuwuuute^-^ lol and amazing
☘️🌹☘️
Facebook being toxic? How dare you? Neeever no such thing
Americans call it college and I think Canadians call it university.
