Rubber Legged Beetle

  • This particular beetle pattern is very easy to tie and fishes extremely well. This fly will stay upright 100% of the time, if tied correctly. The key is to cut the foam shellback a bit wider than the gap of the hook. The AFF D101 hook used here is a little heavier than a typical 1X fine dry fly hook but helps extremely well with keeping the fly upright. The chartreuse foam hot spot helps you keep an eye on your fly and the rubber legs help gives the fly a "bit of life" when on the water. I have the most success with this fly in mid to late summer and fall. I generally search for crushing trout near the banks and cast the fly just in front of there path. Give it a little twitch and FISH ON!

Absolutely, these colors are super visible. The cool thing about the foam is that the underside of the foam is black, so the fish don't see the crazy colors, only the fly fisher.

Nice beetle. Basically a gurgle pop without the tail. Should fish just as good too.
